festival day!

Who: EVERYONE
Broadcast: Up to you
Action: Everywhere in the Yadrolla system!
When: 5/30

[At last, the day has come: Festival Day! Once again, the Starstrikers have taken the trophy this year. But that doesn't mean members of other teams, or those who didn't play, can't celebrate with the rest of them!

There are parties everywhere. Ribbons, streamers, and confetti litter every major street in the system. (Remember what they say about glitter...) There is food on every block, and people cramming into shops to get in on the merch.

Don't forget about the reason for the festival-- the pet adoption drive! A large playground-type area has been set up on the Starstrikers' desert moon where people can play and interact with the lovable creatures needing new homes. Whether you're looking for companionship or just something to do, there's plenty to coo over! Every pet comes with an info card listing a fanciful name and a general description of their age and temperament. Maybe Sir Pringle the puppy or Marquess Mariana the fish can become your new best friend.

Sadly, the Fleet will be drifting in about a week... but feel free to party until then!]

[He listens intently, clearly eating up every small fact she could give him. Seeing the ocean was a dream of his for sure. It seemed like something out of a fantasy, even when he’d seen clips of it during District Four interviews. He couldn’t wrap his head around that much water or how it behaved.]

When I was growing up, yes. There were a couple lakes and even a handful of rivers, but that was it. Even once I started living somewhere else, I couldn’t go out during the day.

[He thought back to when he’d talked to Sam about it and the swath of impossibly black something he could see in the distance from the top of that huge hill. It was immense and no land he’d ever seen looked like that at night.]

We might have been nearby it, but I couldn’t tell you for sure. Besides, more than likely it would have been a ‘bad’ one. Everything there was polluted.

...that's a shame. [Going by pollution, but there's also the observation he couldn't go out during the day. She gives him a curious look.]

Did you have a night shift job...?

[She doubts it, somehow. But it's the most innocent way she can think of to express her curiosity.]

[He smiled a bit to himself.]

Ah...no. Felt like it, sometimes. The area I was in had been bombed seventy years before, no one was supposed to still be living there. At least, not obviously; we were underground to hide from surveillance.

[He says it easily, like tyrannical governments and hiding from them is just a normal Tuesday fact. It's not, he knows, but it was hard not to be casual about what had been his life for nearly the last decade.]

So, if I wanted any fresh air, my only chance to get out was at night when the surveillance wouldn't be able to pick out one person moving around.
mikangirl: (Is that Luffy in our fridge again)

[Oh. Well, she doubted the night time job thing, but the actual explanation is a lot worse than she'd thought.]

...that's a long time for an area to be under surveillance. Someone was frightened of you, huh?
