[At last, the day has come: Festival Day! Once again, the Starstrikers have taken the trophy this year. But that doesn't mean members of other teams, or those who didn't play, can't celebrate with the rest of them!

There are parties everywhere. Ribbons, streamers, and confetti litter every major street in the system. (Remember what they say about glitter...) There is food on every block, and people cramming into shops to get in on the merch.

Don't forget about the reason for the festival-- the pet adoption drive! A large playground-type area has been set up on the Starstrikers' desert moon where people can play and interact with the lovable creatures needing new homes. Whether you're looking for companionship or just something to do, there's plenty to coo over! Every pet comes with an info card listing a fanciful name and a general description of their age and temperament. Maybe Sir Pringle the puppy or Marquess Mariana the fish can become your new best friend.

Sadly, the Fleet will be drifting in about a week... but feel free to party until then!]

It's comforting to know that I'm not alone in that matter, at least.

Not alone at all. I think that my only power is being good at math... which, while occasionally applicable, is probably less impressive than superstrength or intangibility or curative singing.

What is it you do away from here, if you're that good at math?

I'm a navigator and tactician on a starship. Sometimes an engineer. Functionally a science officer.

[His work status is It's Complicated, they keep giving him new jobs, who even knows what he does.]

And you? What is it that you do when no one is abducting you for a television show?

[She smiles, feeling some measure of comfort with how similar Chekov's job is to many people she knows back home. Yes they're all on ships here, but that's not the point. These are different.]

I'm the Crown Princess of the planet Alderaan, and for a time I represented our interests in the Imperial Senate.

[Even though that's not the full truth. She's not entirely at ease with discussing the Rebellion yet or her own high ranking role within it. Long ingrained habits of not discussing any rebel business will do that.]

A princess and a politician? Both of those sound like occupations that would keep you very busy... you may be right to worry about becoming bored between systems.

Oh, er... is there a title that you like to be addressed by?

I prefer just "Leia," in all honesty.

[It's not often she ever got to go by just Leia. It wasn't always proper or appropriate for others to address her that way, thanks to nearly every sort of galactic custom and her upbringing. But titles aren't the most important thing to her, and she's far more interested in getting to know others person to person, not person to princess.]

Good, thank you. The other you that I met never asked to be called anything else, but I would rather not offend you until the second, third time we speak.

[He's joking, he's going to do his best to avoid offending her at all ever.]

[Thankfully Leia can both tell and appreciate a good joke. It really just gives Chekov more points in Leia's book.]

So far, at least, you're doing a good job of avoiding that.

[Oh thank goodness. The other her that he'd known had a brilliant (if sometimes wry) sense of humor and he's pleased to find that it appears to be consistent across at least two universes.]

The planets the Fleet visits, I've been told they aren't all like this.

[The last system, she was told, was particularly unwelcoming.]

Are most of them generally welcoming, or no?

Their friendliness does vary. There was a planet in the Lato'li system that was particularly terrible.

[Please don't ask.]

But overall, they aren't so bad. Not so festive as this usually.

[Sorry Chekov, she's gotta ask. She needs to know how bad it can get.]

The Lato'ii System?

[OH BOY. He frowns, trying to think of the most succinct and least alarming way to summarize that adventure.]

Mmhm. A number of our ships were shot down over the only planet, which was inhabited in part by a warrior tribe that hunted us.

[Oh. Well, that's not a pleasant encounter at all. To, you know, say the least. Leia presses her lips together, visibly bothered by the story.]

Was anyone harmed?

Yes... but everyone recovered eventually, so it could have been worse.

[Although being worse would have taken some creativity.]

That's the best way to look at what happened, I suppose.

[At least they recovered, but Leia is of the opinion that no one getting injured is okay.]

Was it provoked?

I am endlessly optimistic.

[Absolutely deadpan.]

It wasn't, no. They fired on our ships without provocation and attacked on the planet even though we did not retaliate immediately.

[As fond as she is of the snark, it's not the time or place to be amused by it. But rest assured, she is amused. Just, you know, internally.

But by the rest of this? Not so much.]

They attacked on the planet?

Yes, after their ships in orbit had shot some of ours down. They found us in the jungles.

[It's not the worst adventure that Pavel has ever had, but it was one of the more unnerving. Being stalked by unseen foes who had no apparent reason to want them dead was not fun.]

But really, it was fine eventually, and the beings we've met since have been much friendlier.
