[Hux easily lost himself to his own work. Pidge made no effort to interact so he didn't waste the time to make such an attempt. At least she wasn't quietly judging his work the entire time that his peers often had done in the past. It got to the point back then it didn't matter what they said or did. He just worked on his project and let them fume over it later.

Ever so often he would stop to take a drink from his tea and eat the meal he had set out for himself. He eventually got the wiring finished and began to slowly construct the base of the droid itself.]

[At some point, Pidge glances away from her screen and toward Hux and his little project. Ever so slightly her head tilts, brows coming together in thought. It's definitely not just a computer or anything. Some kind of robot, maybe? It doesn't look like anything she's seen before, which makes it a little more interesting than it was a moment ago.

So Hux might look up at some point and find Pidge staring at his work like she's forgotten that he himself is there as well. She's zeroed in on the tech alone. She's even kind of forgotten about the sandwich she's holding in one hand.]

[Hux had not been expecting Pidge to become engrossed in his own work. He wasn't used to anyone really paying attention to him with a fascination as she was holding. He realized it was more curiosity at to what he was building and that perhaps she had never seen something built together from scratch.]

I'm putting together an MSE-6 series repair droid. Most people know them as a mouse droid. These droids can do a multitude set of tasks not only meant for repairing. They can be used for cleaning, delivering messages, escort people, surveillance, or even slicing. They're small size helps them go unnoticed, which can be pretty hand at times.

[Hux quietly explained as he continued to put the parts together. He was careful not to make eye contact with her or show any signs that he's aware she's watching. He tried to keep the explanation short and to the point, not wanting to overwhelm or cause her to loose her attention.]

[Pidge's eyes keep following every little movement of his fingers, tracing over the length of each wire in turn and going back to its point of origin. She has a million questions - what is this for, what is that for, why does that go there, is something missing here - that she's simultaneously answering just by continuing to watch. And then there's a voice all of a sudden, like narration over the show she's watching, and she can really only nod in response and hum around her forgotten mouthful of peanut butter sandwich.

Which she only remembers to swallow when she attempts to give voice to one of her questions.]

It looks like it would have wheels. Wouldn't it be more convenient to use some hover tech instead? [Rover is the droid she has in mind as she continues to watch Hux work, mentally searching for ways to make Rover's tech compatible with Hux's MSE-6.]

This particular droid is meant for ground work. We do have droids that hover and can do work that way. I suppose if one wanted to, it can be converted to hover. Droids can always be readjusted and improved when necessary. Perhaps, the next one built can hover, but I wish for this one to remain on the ground.

[Hux answered in a quiet tone while he continued to work. He was grateful that Pidge was asking questions and accepting what was being said and not challenging everything. It helped ease the tension a little.]

[She hums again in response, a thoughtful sound muffled into her sandwich as she takes another bite out of it. That makes sense. Vacuuming would probably be harder on a hover unit than a ground one, so she can respect that choice.]

Do you have kinds that can convert themselves as needed, or are they kept separated by function?

[personal profile] tiedonastring 2018-07-09 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we have many types of droids. Each one with different functions. It would take some time and research to see what can be made here. It would also depend on what type of functions you want that droid to do.

I merely started with the mouse droid because it was something I had practiced on when I was a child. I also felt it was one of the less complex ones to practice.
