[Maggie had been a bit preoccupied, to say the least, but now that she's finally starting to settle back into a somewhat normal - they aren't drifting, they've touched down a planet, things are less chaotic - she's decided to poke her head out onto the network.]

Hey, so I know everyone's busy with the new planet stuff but I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this girl?

[Maggie lifts the squirming pup into view of the feed.]

I picked her up on the last planet during the festival and haven't really had a chance to come with a name for her. If no one's interested in coming up with some ideas, I'm sure I'll think of something, but I thought I'd ask.

[A beat.]

While we're on the new planet - keep in mind to be safe, but should anyone need a Medical Officer for any excursions, let me know. If you don't know me already - my name is Maggie and I'm the First Mate of the SS Goldstone.

I take it you've named pets before? Or just keep a list handy?

[he is full of cheese it's true]

List is all up here. [he taps his temple] Nah, I just like simple shit. Got a girl back home named Lady and one here named Gent.

Oh. Well that's actually really cute. I didn't want to make too big a fuss over it, but it's one of those things you want to get right, you know? A name is important.

[She pets the dog off screen as she says this, filing away his name suggestions.]

Yeah, makes sense. Pets are more than just pets and all. Need something that suits, right?

Exactly. I think the last time I named a pet was probably when I was a kid. Never had time for a pet later on, I guess.

[And then there weren't any left, after everything went to hell.]

Yeah? Kinda the opposite myself. I only got Lady late last year, and she's my first pet.

Yeah. My family had a farm. Horses, chickens, the whole nine yards. I used to help him tend to the animals. It's nice, having animals around. My Captain has a miniature panda and a few of my other crew mates probably have pets too.

Nice. [no sarcasm, he loves that stuff] Some folks in my hometown had cows, but I don't think anyone had all the requirements. [...] Wait, a mini-panda? Like - legit a panda? No way.

Yep. His name is Hoi Hoi and he's about... maybe the length of my forearm or a bit bigger.

[Maggie makes some vague hand gesturing measurement, lacking the actual panda in front of her.]

Most pets in the fleet are no bigger than a dog. I've heard of people having dragons, other crazy pets - stuff like that - but there were lizards and parrots on the last planet too so im sure there's plenty of those roaming around.

What the hell, that's awesome. Yeah, last planet is where I got Gent, opted for a dog instead of something who'd start cursing back at me. But dragons? Guess it's good they stay little, that sounds, uh - cool and also dangerous. Wonder if the little ones can still eat people.

Yeah, and there's this space on the Iskaulit, I think? For veterinary stuff, but I've never needed it. Growing up already trained makes it so I probably still won't need it too much. There's also places for people and pet to go to relax - gardens and things. The Atroma may keep us here but they keep us entertained.

[She adds, sensing his interest-]

I don't know about the dragons though. They might not still be here.

Huh, didn't know about the vet space. That's good to know, in case it comes to that. Knew about the garden, though, I spend a lot of time there myself.

[a snort]

Figures. I always miss out on the really cool shit.
