Action: Yes, all the action! There are a lot of planet-based things here in the post, but I'm open to Iskaulit things or on the other ships if you guys want!
When: Upon arrival in the Yangur system, until next drift period (Keith will be in a coma from July 4th to 11th for canon update)

i. Mist Exploring

[Before July 4th, Keith attempted to explore the mist with his Paladin armor, fairly convinced that it's space-walk-worthy qualities would keep him safe from the effects. It didn't. He did the same with his Blade of Marmora suit after July 11th, and had the same failed results. See comment threads below for some of Keith's fears that might pop up, or create your own thread if you want your character's fear to show instead!

During one of the threads with his own fears, he will find the Black Bayard from home.]

ii. Veynar Hospital

[Guess who landed himself in the hospital pre-update after realizing his Paladin armor didn't completely stop the effects of the mist...

Guess who did it again post-update when he decided to attempt the same thing with his Blade of Marmora suit instead, and got the same results.

Yeah. Care to visit him? He might have ended up a little nervous from the resulting augment glitch (read: paranoid as all get out).]

iii. Kerrior Hawks

[When not landing himself in trouble in the mist, recovering from mist-induced crippling paranoia at the planet's hospital, or sleeping through a canon update coma, Keith discovered magnaball and kerrior hawks. He didn't attempt to play a game because that looks like it needs a lot of practice, but he definitely watched, and hit up one of the open training camps to give it a try because... riding a giant hawk... dude. How could you not?]

iv. Kite Flying

[And, in other recreational activities, Keith found that flying kites was actually pretty cool. Find him hanging out with the red kite (which happened to match the other Team Voltron kites), attempting to pull off fancy kite stunts. He was about 50/50 on crashing vs succeeding.]

[Yes, this all makes sense to Ulaz, understanding the terms that Keith was bringing up and knowing what it was supposed to be, also that they had needed to remove an agent of an increasingly hostile situation, though...

Hmph. [Keith just shrugged.] Yeah. He probably did.

[He glanced at Ulaz.]

Yeah? She said that she trained some of the Blades for a while. [Keith knew that she probably hadn't trained Ulaz, but...] Did you train some of them with her?

[No, she had not trained him, not by a long shot. He was far too old for that]

At one time. Any time I spent around her wasn't for long. I had missions I was doing and went undercover.

[It took time to be trusted enough at your job to be around Haggar's work. That couldn't be faked]

[Keith nodded.]

She was undercover when she crashed on Earth, too. When she met my dad. She wanted to stay there.

[Keith shrugged a little.]

I can't imagine it's easy to get to know each other in a secretive group.

[Keith knew it wasn't, actually. He didn't know many others. Just the ones he'd worked with.]

No, unfortunately, it is not. I am also at a particular disadvantage. Though I was best suited to take a position so close to Zarkon's witch and high ranking officers, I was also one who potentially knew too much so I had to train myself to forget names and faces except for a few as a precaution.

So its not that I didn't want to tell you about her; it's that there was nothing there and having to recall it with only seeing her blade.

[It's something of an apology for potentially seeming like he was holding out]

She must have cared for your planet, your father, you, to want to stay.

[Keith considered that for a moment, and then shrugged a little.]

I mean, I get it. You can't go undercover and risk capture if you might be drilled for information. It's fine.

[And it wasn't like the Blade of Marmora was a tiny group. They had a good number of operatives in high places. Information that some of them may have held was valuable.

At the comment about his mother, though... he sighed.]

I wish I knew. We didn't get much time to talk before I was brought back here. I mean... she still left, right? So... [He shrugged.] I don't know.

[Ulaz made a contemplative sound when Keith said that, glancing up at the kite for a moment and then back at him]

You forget though, she left you her blade. It is a part of her and her mission. To leave that behind is not something that is taken lightly. It wasn't an accident; it was on purpose.

Besides, sometimes... to protect someone best, you can't be around them, as hard as that is for both of you.

[Keith looked thoughtful for a moment, and then looked up at Ulaz.]

The Blades are linked to us, right? Like... the only reason I can use the one I have is because it's my mom's. No one else could use it.

The blades are tied to their wielder. The light that glows from them is an indication of their life force. If I were to discover another Blade's weapon on a remote planet, I'd be able to see if they were still alive.

I have never heard of a blade having two wielders at once, but you are similar enough to your mother that it is not impossible for both of you to be connected to it. You are also correct, no one else can properly use a blade that they have not connected to. I could take your dagger, but I would not be able to turn it into a greater weapon than that. Same for you and my sword; it won't react to you.

[Keith considered that.]

So, then... which one of us is making it glow?

[He'd activated it, but she was still able to as well. He didn't expect Ulaz to know the answer if he hadn't heard of two people sharing the same blade, but, if they could use a blade as a life indicator, then what would happen in their case of using the same one?]

Before you activated the Blade? Your mother. Now I can't say because we've never had this before. And there is no way to test it because that involves death.

[Yeah, no testing this]

[Keith frowned. Definitely not testing that.]

Hm. Yeah.

[He sighed a little.] Though, with the way things go, who knows? We might find out whether we want to or not.

There is always a possibility to find out as unfortunate as that is.

[He glances at the kite again]

I know Zarkon's forces were searching for the lions for a long time, sending out scouts looking for them. Practically since they first went missing. When they picked up one of them, they were able to start tracking the signatures the lions give off. We were able to find out the Blue Lion was on Earth which was when I took steps to free Shiro. That was the first Thace and I knew about it...

I can't think of any other reason she would have been there except for the lion.

Yeah. Pidge intercepted Galra communications a few months after Shiro and the Holts were captured. She started studying them, and found some numbers, which Hunk was able to identify as an element that didn't exist on Earth. They tied that together with my own research that I had found by digging through some of my dad's old stuff, and we were able to find the Blue Lion that way. Hunk was able to scan for the energy signature. So, I'm guessing that, because they had the Red Lion, that's why they came to Earth... because the picked up the same energy from Blue.

I don't know how long they had the Red Lion before they found Earth, but I can't see why my mom would have been there otherwise, either. Which means the Galra investigated Earth at least three or four times looking for the Blue Lion.

[Keith looked down at his hands, holding the spool that had the kite's string wrapped around it. He slowly started to reel it in.]

I can't tell you the exact year, but they'd had the Red Lion for some time before it was reclaimed by I'm guessing yourself. It was quite a blow when we heard about it since now the Galra had effectively prevented Voltron from forming whether there were paladins to pilot them or not.

I'd say three times. The first was when your mother arrived, the third was when you found the lion and lead the cruiser away, so the second... was probably the reason your mother left. If there was another team of scouts after her, she might have tried to stop more from coming.

[Keith nodded as Ulaz mentioned him reclaiming the Red Lion, confirming that suspicion. They'd swiped it right out from under Sendak's nose.

He frowned a little, though, at the thought that more scouts had landed on Earth and forced his mom to leave. Had she gone back with them? Or had she chased them off, but gone back to prevent the spread of the news they were bringing back about Blue? He wasn't sure. And he had no way of really knowing while he was here in the Fleet.]

I guess.

The mission always comes first, though, right?

[He sighed.]

I don't blame her. [Not that he didn't harbor some resentment, still, like with his dad, but he didn't blame her for her choice.] It's not like she could really stay, I guess. There are bigger things out there than just some small planet that's not even on the Galra's radar beyond having had the Blue Lion on it. She had a job to do.

[He understood that much, at least.]

The mission is supposed to come first. That is the intention anyway. I can't answer for her reasons, but I could see either option. She left because it wasn't as important of a planet, or she wanted to stay partially because the Blue Lion was there. That was one part of our mission. Keep the lions out of Zarkon's hands.

Perhaps until something happened... she wanted to stay.

Maybe. I guess I won't know unless I go back again.

[Keith shrugged, ready to drop the topic. It hurt to think about... he'd been so close... and to have to chose between finding out more about himself and his mother and his boyfriend here in the Fleet... it was hard. He'd gone through the Trials looking for the same answers, only to get more questions, and there she had been... right there. And he had questions... so many questions. But he didn't have Lance back home. They weren't that close.

It wasn't fair.]

No, not likely. I can surmise, but I don't know her motives or her exact mission.

[He's willing to drop it too. He had no answers for Keith and it was likely a distressing subject. He'd found Krolia and then been forced to leave her with no answers to questions he deserved to be able to ask.

So he decided to change the topic]

Shiro mentioned the idea of making kites for the ships. I don't think he was serious though.

[It was an abrupt change in topic from where their conversation had ended up, shifting it back to where it started like that, and Keith had to take a minute to catch up, but he caught on.]

Maybe as decoration? I don't know. It seems kinda weird, but, I guess... [He shrugged.] ...it's not like we can't fly them whenever we end up on a planet, right? So why not?

[Well, they weren't talking about his mother anymore at least]

Clearly it would be for decoration. I don't think there would be any way to do anything more. Could be hard to store though.

They come apart.

[Keith nodded over to someone who was doing exactly that... reeling in their kite and slowly taking some of the cross bars off so they could roll it up and put it away for transport.]

So, not too bad. If you don't want to display it, it can be tucked away.

[Ulaz watches the other person putting away the kite]

That would make sense. More convenient that way. Still I don't know if we want that much attention.

Attention?

[Keith looked confused.]

If anything, we could use it to blend in, right?

Well, here we could blend in. On other planets, we'd stand out even more if they didn't have an interest in kite flying.
