[ you can't do that right now. ]
Who: Belthazar and you!
Broadcast: Y
Action: The Goldstone.
When: After the shuffle
[action; bridge]
[This is kind of old hat to Belthazar by now, but he's still startled to be deposited on yet another ship. He hasn't been on this one before. Two long pointy ears stick straight out of his messy hair, just as strange as his glowing eyes. It's weird to have all his memories suddenly there, and he's a bit disoriented by that.
He also hates dealing with change. Dreadfully so. He takes a moment to straighten his collar and regain his composure.]
It appears I'm your new cook. You're welcome to the pudding, but a word of warning: even rats won't eat that, if given the chance.
[action; kitchen]
[One of his first acts as the new cook is to completely reorder the kitchen. However people were eating before, that is about to change. Walking in, it looks like something out of Matilda-- flour, sugar, and starch all marching along to their assigned spaces in the cupboards; pots and pans neatly slotting together and sliding into yet another cupboard; and the beginnings of a stew simmering warmly on the stovetop. Belthazar dictates all of this with one hand while the other measures some spices into the broth.
Whatever he's making smells really good, but the cook himself doesn't seem to notice anyone else walking in. He's a little too engrossed in enchanting the colanders and cake pans.]
-----
[broadcast; video]
[Once he's had dinner started (because Light knows these people have probably never had a decent meal in their lives), he sorts out his new room and his personal shopping list. If he's going down to whatever planet they're docked at, he wants to make sure he gets the necessities-- cooking utensils, meat for the freezer, fresh vegetables, spices, and whatever else they can possibly grow on their own.
As always he's doing twenty things at once, but he pauses because he really needs to see how much time has passed and if anyone he knows is still here. He fidgets a little with the device until he can turn it on again.
He hasn't grown up too much since he was last here, with a healthy amount of baby fat still in his cheeks, but his eyes are a bright gold instead of their old radioactive green.]
My name is Belthazar. I was here, once, but between all the time that's passed at home and coming back, I haven't figured out how long it's been. The food still tastes like a different four-letter word, so I suppose things haven't changed all that much.
... I feel as if I'm waking from a very long dream, but I'm not sure which one's the dream. [He runs a hand through his bangs.] Er, right, my list. [He fumbles a bit with a pen and paper and tries to pretend he isn't a graceless creature.]
Does the Iskaulit still have a greenhouse? And, is there a place in this system where I can shop for a kitchen?
[He has more questions, but food is always a good place to start.]

That's good. If I infuse something with mana it's usually an enchantment, so it takes a bit of energy.
I still want to do something for you, though, so I'll have to think about it.
[He nods, clearly interested in hearing more about it (and not because Mikleo's a tasty snack). Belthazar has studied all kinds of magic since he was a little kid, and that spark of curiosity and a little bit of recklessness hasn't faded one bit.]
I've always wondered what that's like. Can you feel the water in the world like it's a part of you?
no subject
[He thinks for a moment, fingers lightly drumming against the side of his mug.]
It's more like I'm attuned to it. I can feel water when it's around me- in the air or the ground, if there's a lot or a little bit- and I can manipulate it if I'm close enough, or sometimes draw it nearer to myself. I can follow a path towards it. But if it wasn't there, or if something happened to it - like if it evaporated in the sun - I don't feel it myself, so it's not a part of me, so much as... I'm an extension of it, in a sense? Seraphim are born from their element, in most cases, so it's due to that element that we're even able to manifest... geez, this is getting convoluted.
[He smiles somewhat sheepishly.]
I'm not sure if that helped at all.
no subject
I see... That's-- kind of awesome. [He doesn't use that word much, but it is meant very, very genuinely.] It isn't the same as my mana sense, but I understand what you're saying.
For me, mana is something I can feel like a sixth or seventh sense. It's like smelling or tasting without being either. The greatest hunters and rangers on my world are usually elves because they can sense the world around them intuitively-- the mana in the tree roots, the deer grazing by the creek... It's all connected. But because I mainly deal with practical magic, it's less subtle than that.
I can see mana too, including the threads that make a spell, and manipulate them. But that's my training as a mage more than my race.
no subject
That's so interesting... I feel as if elves would make good Shepherds, had they existed in our universe, if they're so in-tune with the world like that. So does that mean you can see it when I use my artes, too?
no subject
[But on to that other question.]
I can. I'm not sure I can manipulate them as that's... dangerous with foreign magic, but I do see your incantations. The threads of a spell glow very brightly and wrap around the caster as well as the subject.
I see that same glow whenever you manipulate water in a big way, but to my eye, you're always glowing a little bit.
no subject
[Not gonna lie, that's... pretty cool. It's something he wouldn't mind seeing, though he knows it's impossible. Just for the sake of studying it...]
I guess because seraphim are more or less just pure mana made manifest. That must get a little distracting.
[He can't really apologize for being what he is - nor would he - but even so.]
no subject
Belth almost snorts the tea.]
That first time I ran into you alone, and you made the water dance-- I couldn't stop staring. I remember that.
no subject
I remember the look on your face as you stared. I was still getting used to the idea of being seen at all by so many.
no subject
[He clears his throat.]
I do appreciate your... patience with me, back then. I still have a lot to learn, but I hope I'm slightly less insufferable than I used to be.
no subject
[Which... was not his strong suit back then. Sometimes it still isn't. That sort of trait doesn't change overnight.
He likes to think that he's changed a little bit over time, though. He's gone through enough to learn patience, that's for sure.]

[Because yeah, water elemental.]
