[The feed turns on to Kaname moving around her personnel office. A moment later, she grabs the comm and settles on the couch.]

Recent circumstances have me wondering, have the positions of captain and first mate come into play often here? I'm sure there have been circumstances before my arrival, so I'd like to hear about them.

[She sits back, thinking aloud.]

I think part of it is that the roles are very involved and crucial on the ships back home with several tiers of command. I knew my role and the roles of those around me as well as I could. [She smiles.] Not that the set up here isn't relaxing.

Sometimes I just think about the differences and how it would affect life here if it was more like that. [Sitting forward again, Kaname turns a little.] Maybe it wo--

[The sentence is cut off with a yell of surprise from her. Dropping to the floor with a clack, the comm spins, camera eventually stopping and focusing on what made her yell in the first place.]

[Whoops, yeah, he can see the issue. It's not really a normal dog, after all. Hastily he scoots in front of the creature, though it's still visible as it peers around his leg at her.]

It's okay, it's okay! He's friendly! Well, not unfriendly, anyway...

[She doesn't take her eyes off the thing, but she does lower the mug slightly.]

What is he, and why is he here?

[Panic has been replaced with wariness. It's still an improvement.]

He's a... dog? Kind of?

[Zack glances over his shoulder, fully recognizing how dubious that claim is.]

Me and Aerith found him in the mist. He's from our home.

We left the system days ago! Why haven't I seen him until now?

[Still... on the couch.]

He's been hiding! I'm not too sure where he disappears to, honest. He keeps finding these hidey holes in the cargo bay. But look, see-

[Zack crouches down and gives the dog-thing a casual pat on the head. It doesn't even blink.]

No problem! He knows how to recognize what is or isn't a threat. He must just be scoutin' out the place.

Zack, those are the ventilation shafts...... [HAS THE DOG BEEN CREEPILY SPYING ON EVERYONE THIS ENTIRE TIME???

Kaname looks at it, finally putting the mug down. Instead, she takes a small stuffed animal from the couch (it's the mercat's) and gently tosses it to the dog.]

Yeah, he likes to be up high. Probably old habits- he used to perch in the rafters of Aerith's church and watch us come and go.

[The dog doesn't move, though it watches the toy fly across the room and bounce gently off one of his wings. He looks back at Kaname expectantly, not bothered but not especially enthused, either.

Zack grins a bit sheepishly.]

He's not, uh. Super playful. Try petting him? He ain't fluffy but the wings are soft.

[It takes her another moment to actually sit back on the couch normally, so she's not going over to the dog-thing just yet.]

Next time you get anything that might unnerve a member of the crew, please tell the rest of us. [Kaname exhales a little and tentatively holds out a hand for the dog to sniff if it feels like walking over.]

Haha, okay, okay, next time I'll send out a memo or something.

[His shoulders lift in a shrug. He didn't think it'd go around freaking people out, but...

The dog doesn't exactly sniff, or do much in the way of normal dog behaviour, but he's intelligent enough to get the implication, so he quietly shuffles over and bumps his nose against Kaname's offered hand.]

Oh... [It's a soft 'oh' as the doggish creature comes over. Scolding Zack all but forgotten, Kaname gently scratches him under the chin.]

Hi. [Not sure what to do now.]

[His response isn't exactly dog-like- or rather, it's a bit like a very old dog well past its prime. He leans a little into her touch, silently accepting it with no sound, but at least with no sign of aggression, either. The little wing sways gently, vaguely like a tail wag. Meanwhile, Zack looks thrilled.]

Hey, he likes you! I think that's his usual way of saying hi back, more or less.

[See that? That's a small smile growing. Without taking her eyes off the... Daisy, Kaname addresses Zack.]

You think...?

Yeah, Aerith would know more than me, you'd be better off asking her. She had him around for... four years, I think it was? But I left on a mission pretty soon after he showed up, so I don't know his mannerisms that well.

I guess that makes sense.

[Slowly, Kaname lowers her hand, finally looking up at her friend.]

So he'll just hang out here, I take it?

That's kinda what he does, yeah. But he's harmless, and if you want him to go away he'll probably listen. Just, y'know. Be nice about it, if you can.

I wouldn't be mean to him. [Not intentionally.]

Does he make any noise, though?

Noise? What, like barking and stuff? Not that I've ever heard. He mostly sits quiet and people-watches. Harmless, kinda boring.

Great for sneaking up on people.

[Maybe there's a tiny bit of shade there. Not that Kaname would ever. She smiles a little.]

He'll be fine with Q-Lulu, right?

I don't see why not. I don't think he hunts or even eats, actually.

[Seriously Kaname he's a WEIRD fuckin dog.]

If you wanna give it a test run, though, I can hold on to 'im.

Nope. At least, I've never seen it. He's... god, I dunno. Like an artificial monster? Not normal flesh and blood. We never figured out what keeps him running.
