[This might be the only time anyone will see Pidge looking so happy. And feeling the tiniest bit social. The latter of which is really only obvious because she actually made a post to the network in order to share some of her more interesting findings with the rest of the Fleet. There are practically stars in her eyes.

This may never happen again.

Pidge is basically giggling as she positions her comm somewhere it can get a good view of her and her pile of seeming-junk, then immediately hurries back over to join her pile. From here, it's very easy to see the little green mouse droid rolling around, attempting to nudge the junk into neater piles, and what looks like a floating green caterpillar with glowing cheeks coming over to bump gently against the side of Pidge's head. She doesn't seem to mind.]

Okay! So there is a lot of really cool stuff on this planet, and I'm pretty sure I can work with it all. Check this out-

[Still beaming, she crouches down by the pile and starts picking at some of the stuff she's found. She goes through them all methodically, picking one item up and raising it for the camera to see before giving a brief explanation of what it is and what she can use it for. She does this for a while, one by one, but eventually she stops when both the mouse droid and the caterpillar start nudging into her sides.]

Fine, I'll wrap it up. Just- If anyone has a tech project in mind, just let me know. I'm basically gonna be planetside for as long as we're here, I think. There's a lot of awesome potential around here!

Awesome! I have to be a little more picky but that's mostly because I don't know what all of this stuff is.

[If it looks functional she'll take it, if she doesn't know what it is she won't... unless it looks very cool.]

Is there anything you want to make?

I could probably show you sometime, if you want. Are you new to the Fleet or to- [Pidge gestures vaguely with a hand, offering a crooked smile.] -space travel in general, or what?

[She tosses a rather large scrap of metal behind her before the long messy blond hair comes back into the video.]

I've been here for a month or so. Already really antsy. I haven't ever traveled this much while feeling like I'm not traveling. I've decided that I don't like it but the making of dominoes has been helping.

Try not to think of it as traveling. That's helped me a lot.

Dominoes? Like the toy?

Yeah. I'm trying to but I guess I miss that feeling of sticking your head outside of car window and you can't do that in space.

Well, you can but it'll end poorly.

[She nods her head while inspecting what looks like a large battery.]

Yeah or as I call them. Something to do when I have to much free time. I am trying to circle the engine room twice right now.

[That mental image makes Pidge chuckle a little. It probably shouldn't. But alas.]

Well, with enough patience that can't be too hard. Do you work in the engine room on your ship?

[She totally should laugh because it's an amazing mental image.]

I do.

Why do you ask?

[If slightly gruesome, yes.]

Just because that usually means you've got the engineering augment. Which means that just going around here should help you find plenty of projects to help keep you busy.

[Pidge should imagine the cartoon mental image. It's less gruesome and more straight-up slapstick humor.]

I guess that is how that works.

[Freya looks thoughtful and for a moment she forgets that she's looking at something.]

I admit, I know I have the augment but I'm not 100% sure what it changes. I was an engineer before all of this to just with cars instead of space ships. They aren't all that different, some of the stuff here seems way or if my leauge.

[~~everything she imagines is cartoon-~~ She'll keep that in mind.]

It should have tuned you into the materials you see around here. Like, you know exactly how to man the engine room, how the ships work and what needs to be done to run maintenance on it. All the tech on the Fleet should make total sense to you now, but maybe you just haven't learned how to consciously tap into that information.

[Pidge thinks for a moment, tapping a finger to her chin.] You said you've been here for about a month, right? Maybe you just need practice. You could try starting by building a hoverbike or something out of the raw materials here, if you want. That would be combining something familiar to you from home with something new from here.

Okay but not all mechanical materials are useful in an engine room. So while I get how they work, I don't think I'm automatically going to know what something is used for unless it happens to be an engine room part.

[Not that Freya's really tested this but that makes sense... doesn't it?]

I have built a hoverbike. The power source is the bitch but besides that it really isn't that hard.

From my experience, it seems like I've been filled in on a lot of the intricacies on the tech we've been running into here. [Pidge's lips purse slightly, thoughtfully.] Though maybe that's because I've been here for so long now...

In that case, maybe you could make one with some extra modifications. Stuff you've only found out here. Or maybe try building some other kind of vehicle, something with an onboard computer or something. [She shrugs a little.] Challenge yourself.

Cars have onboard computers now. It's weird.

BUT!

[Freya holds up a finger.]

I will do that. I haven't really tried to use it or anything anyway.

[Pidge's head tilts slightly to one side, curious.] That's weird?

[She's actually not sure she can remember if that's a newer development or not back on Earth.

Whatever.]

Okay, it's not weird but there is a lot of technology that exists in my world and also doesn't exist at the same time. The theory and knowhow is there but we don't have suitable materials or power sources in order to implement the designs we have.

Self-driving cars, living in space, hover anything, etcetera.

[Freya shrugs.]

It's all possible and relatively easy designs. I knew that before I came here but it's weird seeing everything I knew to be true. Well, not just seeing it but knowing it, thanks to this weird chip thing. So it's a little bit of separating theory from fact and my own history. It'd honestly be easier if I knew more or less.

I figured what I do know was just the wrong amount of information, either way.

[She pauses.]

Ah. You probably didn't want to know everything that I was thinking but thank you for listening. It's kind of nice to be able to just talk about stuff and talk to someone who might understand what I mean. I confuse people . . . often.

[Freya flashes a bright smile.]

I will be happy to bug you, we should do a project together. Maybe something fun and silly.
