Good! [Vash hands the donut over. They will both be a bit disappointed that while it is chocolate looking, it is not very strong or good in flavor. Still, it's better than no chocolate at all.]

[He does the inspection, gives it a smell, and then a taste and makes a face.

Oh no, Vash. Poor, poor Vash.

He hands it over.]

What? It's chocolate! How could it be that-- [He takes a bit and then takes a little bit to chew it.] It's not that bad. [But it's also clear he's not fully enjoying it either.]

What about a blueberry one? [He's still eating that chocolate donut. NO DONUT SHALL GO TO WASTE!]

[He's glad at least one of them is a garbage disposal. Taako will eat a lot of things if forced, but when he had a choice, he wants to enjoy his food.

He holds a hand out for the blueberry one, but not hope.]

I have a general idea of how these should be made. It's a matter of getting higher quality ingredients for the glazes, maybe better eggs and butter in the batter.

Oh yeah? Well, if you need someone to taste test them you just let me know! I'll give you an honest answer! [He hands over the blueberry one, but he's hardly paying attention now that there is hope for even better donuts.]

You don't seem to be the most discerning tongue, but. [He shrugs.]

Sure, why not.

[He takes the blueberry one and starts inspecting it. Sniff, texture, break a piece off, taste test. This one is actually closer to the honey glaze, a bit too sweet to be real blueberries. It'd be better with jam on the inside maybe.]

This one isn't so bad. Closer to the first one. Simple is best, I suppose.

Simple, huh? Well, how about you try this before you say that! [With a flourish Vash pulls out a cream filled donut covered in powder sugar and even some sprinkles.] Let's go with overkill!

[Betch!!! You've been holding out on him. This powdered sugar monstrosity looks far and above more interesting than the others. It's not ring shaped, but a puffy circle and topped with colorful sprinkles. Taako doesn't wait for this one, he grabs it from Vash's hands.]

Now this is what I'm talking about. You should have led with this.

[Food should be a feast for the eyes and the mouth. He inspects it the same as before, but when he breaks it open, cream comes out and he looks delighted. This is much lighter and fried rather than baked perhaps? The flavor is simple, certainly, but he can get behind how these simpler ingredients work together.]

This is going straight to my thighs and I don't even care.

Isn't the saying save the best for less? [Vash shoves a full donut in his mouth as Taako takes a moment to study his.] Trust me, your thighs will thank you!

[Can he not eat them normally? It's like his face is elastic. Taako gives Vash a look and then continues eating this one, but at a more normal person pace.]

I'll just have to burn some extra energy later then.

[The experiment will begin though. Now he just has to figure out what ingredients he needs to recreate this, what temperature to bake or fry at, and what glazes he wants to try.]

Do you have a favorite flavor?

I love them all, but I think the classic with a hint of honey is my favorite. OH! Or maybe that with a bit of apple cinnamon sprinkling on it!

[Apple cinnamon, hm? He could do that. He's already been baking apples for his crew after all. Shouldn't be hard to take those spices and integrate them into the dough. Taako considers the possibilities for a moment and then nods.]

Yeah, sure. I'll try them out - but once I have the recipe, we're going to have to come up with an equivalent exchange here. I don't cook for free.

Oh yeah? Hm, well, that may be hard. I don't exactly own very much. [He actually has a fair amount of credits saved due to him having very cheap tastes. Donuts and really cheap whiskey are about the only things he buys.]

I have some old books? And a lot of bouncy balls. Do you like bouncy balls?

[Do you see this look on his face, Vash? Do you see it? This is the look of someone who has 0 interest in bouncy balls.

Okay, maybe some interest, but not enough to cook for them.]

What about money?

I could see about getting some money. Unless you accept pocket lint?

[He stares at Vash a moment and then gestures to himself.]

What about this says I'd accept pocket lint?

Uhh, the part where you might have come from a magical world where pocket lint was the highest value of currency?

You know what? You can get your own donuts then.

[Because Taako is not going to work for goddamn lint.]

W-wait! Wait! Wait! Wait! I'm sure we can work something out! I'll pay for all the supplies you need and some for your time too! I'll get the money!

Just... maybe not on this planet. I've ah, spent nearly all my money upgrading our ship.

[There we go. A promise of payment is something at least. And he can't fault the guy for upgrading his ship. Most people here seem to be pretty honest, which is not a vice Taako falls victim to very often.

He makes a show of hemming and hawing as he considers and then shrugs, relenting.]

Then let me know when you have enough ready. I'll take care of sourcing the supplies - I don't trust food stuffs unless I've procured them. You just get the money ready.

[He's never letting anyone touch his ingredients again.]

[Vash stands with a giant pout on his face and hands press together as if praying for Taako to say yes. When he does finally get an affirmative answer he'll actually cry out loudly in joy.] That's GREAT! Don't you worry! As soon as I get my next pay check from work you'll be the first to know!

["My next paycheck from work" just sounds so normal it's almost jarring as he stands here on an alien planet.]

Work, huh? Where is it that you work?
