Wonderduck

[Shin-Ah's first experience with confetti has him completely startled. So the first thing he does when there's strange noise and suddenly things flying at him is duck and cover. Which means someone might find him just crouched holding his head while he wonders what is attacking him. He doesn't have his sword so he's not entirely sure how to fight it.

Seriously. He's never seen this stuff before. Please send help. He needs it SO BADLY.]

Iskaulit

[After the scare on the Wonderduck, Shin-Ah can be found wandering the Iskaulit. Really he's familiar with the layout so he's not actually lost. (He can see through walls, guys. He knows where he's going.) However, it probably looks like he's lost. Because Shin-Ah will be walking one way then stop and look around before randomly picking another direction.

Should he go here? What about here?

In truth, he's on his way to the forge that he saw. He's just exploring on his way there so he can know the layout of this place well to know where everything is. It just seems like a good idea right now.]

[Mmm. How to...explain.

Shin-Ah finally settles for pointing in different directions for where things are on this ship.]

A forge is there. A pool of water is there. A place of ice is there. Gardens. Foxes.

[He can see where all of them are. Every single one. From right where they are standing this moment. And yes. That means he can see through that mask despite there being no eye holes.]

[Bull has to think back, of course, to his memory of the locations aboard the Iskaulit. It's possible the kid's lying, that's he's explored and just has a good memory, but he's been so earnest so far...]

I see them.

[And he looks up at the large man. But there's something about Shin-Ah that suggests he really means what he says. That he can see them all.]

Yeah. [Okay, the simplest answer was usually the correct one, but...]

...how do you see it? There're walls in the way, kid.

[He points up to where his eyes are hidden under the mask.

Then realizes maybe he should...use his words.]

Things do not stand between the Dragon Eyes and where they want to see.

[He took a moment, just watching this little guy's explanation before his one good eye went a little wide.]

[Shin-Ah nods right away. Ah and...]

And far. And through darkness.

[Basically he has probably the best eyes in the Fleet.]

Well...shit. [See, he's got a useful mask. Most masks were pointless.] Anything else I should know about?

[Little do you know that his mask does nothing to help him see, Bull.]

[He's not sure what else there is to say really.]

[It hides his facial expressions. That's way more useful than most masks.]

Okay, then we're good, kid.

[He's thinking that's a good thing. Yep. Must be.]

...which ship...is yours?

[Because he really likes The Iron Bull. So he wants to be able to visit him sometimes if it's ever okay. He figures even if he can't read he can somehow figure out how to go to the man's ship.]

[Bull smiles at that. He's not quite sure why, but he likes this kid. Maybe because he reminds him of Cole.]

The Heron. You're welcome to swing by whenever you want.

[He pauses a second before he realizes he will still struggle to know which ship that is. And he... And he really does wish to visit The Iron Bull. He likes him. He makes him feel...good.]

[He frowns.]

[Because that's not that uncommon where the Bull comes from.]

[There doesn't appear to be shame in his expression but there is something of silent acceptance as he looks up with a nod. Even with the mask back on it's clear to see.

He can't read. He never learned.]

...My village...was scared of me. They were more comfortable when they weren't near me.

[That was going to be a problem, but he was damn well going to do something about it.]

We're gonna have to fix that.

[Looking up at the man, he tries to understand what he means. Fix that? What are they fixing? In all honesty, he's not really sure who in his village can actually read even if they weren't terrified of him.

[Bull nods at the little guy.]

Yeah. We'll get you taught how to do that...if you want to. It's not going to be easy.

[His lips part and for a moment he's just at a loss. This is like when Yona gave him a name for the first time in his life. To be able to read...

He looks down at and lifts a hand. Looking at it, he remembers how he has...nothing.]

I can't...give anything back. To thank you.

[Bull rolled his shoulders in a shrug at that.]

Nobody asked you for something back, kid.

[He knows that. But he really does want to repay him somehow. Or do something for him. So...]

I...can fight. I'm good at fighting.

[He's offering to fight for him if he needs to. It's all he's got.]

[The Bull chuckles at that, nodding.]

You got a deal, kid.

[Not that there's too much call for that, or that the Bull's going to put him on the front lines.]

[Little do you know that he will rush into battle without you putting him there, Bull. Especially now that he intends to add you to the people he will give his life to protect.

And no, it doesn't matter that Bull towers over him. He's going to protect him.]

I'll get a sword then.

[And then he guesses...he'll just have to visit The Iron Bull's ship sometimes. Since he doesn't live there. (Not yet anyway.)]
