[ loki is no stranger to space ships. though the kind of ships asgard uses are quite different in nature, he's read enough to be familiar with the make and feel of this one. he quietly turns on the recording device, squinting at it. very primitive but it'll have to do. he straightens himself, as befitting a prince, quiet and somber despite the nervousness. ]

Greetings. I am Prince Loki of Asgard. I wish to know about my whereabouts and swift return to Asgard. My father will not be pleased.

[ a pause as loki thinks of what else to add before pulling out a large knife he stole from the kitchens. ]

Also I have a knife.

[ loki tentatively comes closer. ]

This is . . . the future?

[Thor nods, quick to smile at the younger boy.]

It is, strange though that sounds. We're both far from home.

[dothelokimotion]

[ loki starts smiling tentatively. ]

Are we on a quest? Are you going to kill some monsters?

[rebuildyourruins]

Ah, well. You could say it's a quest to find the monsters.

[And then kill them. One step at a time though.]

Most others here are mortals from Midgard.

[dothelokimotion]

Midgard?

I thought they lacked the ability to travel through space.

[rebuildyourruins]

They do.

[At least in their reality. Thor won't go into the multitude of realities at play just yet.

Since Loki is willing enough to believe him, Thor comes into the room properly and sits on the bed. He's not about to crouch down in front of his brother - he's young, not a baby.]

They aren't here by choice, which is what I need to fix.

[dothelokimotion]

[ it's weird to see thor so . . . grown up. he reaches up . . . to poke the eyepatch. ]

Did Father make you lose an eye?

[The prod makes Thor straighten up unconsciously, bafflement clouding his features.]

What? No, he didn't do that, someone else stabbed me in the eye.

Who? Who would hurt one of us?

[rebuildyourruins]

[Now this Thor has no problem lying about, or at least dodging the issue.]

Enemies, Loki, you know they're out there. This one just got a little too close. But don't worry - she's dead now.

[dothelokimotion]

Frost Giants?

[ he can't help blurting it out, eyes bright. ]

[rebuildyourruins]

[For a moment, Thor just looks startled. It shouldn't catch him off guard to hear Loki jump to Frost Giants as a foe -- but he's too used now to the truth. He blinks after a moment and shakes his head.]

Ah - no, no. Not one of them. Actually it was an Asgardian who wanted the throne.

[dothelokimotion]

[ that makes no sense to loki. ]

But only a son of Odin can take the throne.

[rebuildyourruins]

Yeah. [Sorta.] That's why I had to stop her. [Sorta.]

[dothelokimotion]

[ loki tugs at thor's sleeve. ]

Tell me! I want to know what happened. Was I there? Did I help?

[rebuildyourruins]

[Belatedly, Thor realises that continuing down this track is either going to result in a lot of dodged questions or very unfortunate answers. And he doesn't much want to give those answers to Loki as he is.]

What, you want me to spoil your future for you? [He injects that with some incredulity.] Because there's a lot of it, you know.

[dothelokimotion]

So what?

I want to know!

[rebuildyourruins]

[It really doesn't take much for Thor to default back to annoying older brother behaviour.]

I'll only tell you one thing: you did help.

[dothelokimotion]

[ loki pokes thor in the arm. ]

That's not enough. Tell me more.

[rebuildyourruins]

[He sighs, raking his fingers back through his hair.]

No, Loki, I really can't.

[dothelokimotion]

[ it's strange to see thor like this. not just big but quiet and somber. loki falters slightly, his own enthusiasm. ]

I don't understand. Surely it was a great adventure. Just like the ones we heard about from Father.

[rebuildyourruins]

[Loki can't know just how similarly Thor feels in this moment. Seeing his brother young again, bright and inquisitive without hiding it, is a painful reminder of everything that fell in between. Even just glancing off the reason of why Thor's eye is gone comes close to a dozen things he just can't tell the boy. Just won't. It would only upset him for however long this lasts.

It takes a moment for Thor to smile again, but he does.]

It was like that, in its own way. And I know it's going to be one of the great tales told in our halls forever. I just don't have the words for it yet.

[dothelokimotion]

[ loki frowns, but nods quietly. maybe thor will tell him later. he tugs on his sleeve once more. ]
