Option 1: Scrapheap
[Ulaz could be found a lot of the time at the piles of junk on this planet. With so many projects to work on and a big one being Shiro's arm so that he didn't have that problem anymore, he needed a lot of supplies. Luckily he was a big guy and not likely prone to people trying to take things from him.

It seemed to be a worth while endeavor at least. He was finding a lot of things that he could use]

Option 2: Blameless
[Some of Ulaz's supplies from scavenging were squirreled away in his room because he didn't want to leave them out. Some, however, had been temporarily moved to the lounge space on the Blameless whenever he found himself with a moment.

From previous discussions with Death over on the Caprine, he had decided to try his hand at building something for Loyalty, Justice's cat. He had taken some time during the drift to read up on the tiny felines - especially since one kept coming in trying to chew on things in his lab - and he was prepared to try a solution that might keep her mildly distracted.

So he was currently seated on the floor of the lounge trying to put together pieces to make something of a "cat tree". There were also length of rope next to him and what must have been once some carpeting, but he wasn't ready for those yet.

Help him? Hinder him? Keep him company while he works? Your call!]

Option 3: Junker Racing
[He had mentioned it to only a few people since he had been here, but Ulaz had, in his youth, been quite a daredevil. Most however, didn't really know that.

But in the course of his investigations of the planet, he found the junker racing. Ah... youth. But he couldn't seem to tear himself away from watching it...]

Closed to Lyall: Arena
[He couldn't quite be sure how of their frequent conversations circled around to it, but it had. Probably the arena had come up somewhere along the line and it had sparked the conversation. Seemed the most likely.

Ulaz had been curious for sometime about the actual physical capabilities of a werewolf, but wasn't sure if it was polite to ask a gentleman when they tried to maintain a certain air eighty-night percent of the time.

Lyall was apparently frustrated after his glitch, as beat up as he had been. Understandable.

So it had been decided they were going to face off in the arena. It was not the venue Ulaz would have thought Lyall would pick, but who was he to complain. It had intrigued him too much to worry about it for too long.

Here they were, in the arena. Ulaz could have worn his full armor, but he had decided to keep it more fair, only the suit he worry under it. It was the most superficial of protection. But it wasn't a slight against what he thought Lyall could do; the tradition of palen bol meant Galra were notorious gluttons for pain, seeing it as an opportunity for growth. He did however have one of his swords. He didn't intend to use it, but if found he did, he'd have it]

Whenever you are ready.

Not since I have been on the ship. I suppose there is nothing that really prevents her from going outside if the planet is safe enough. Felines can be surprisingly independent. [Says the guy who received cat toys for his birthday?] If she did, I'd say probably with a harness so she can explore, but can't wander away. Of course that's Justice's decision in the end.

I cannot say I have ever seen a cat who would tolerate a harness, but if she would, that would be worth a try. But of course, whoever is responsible for her gets the final say.

[Most of the cats Lyall knows are cats that are kept by vampires, and he knows cats well enough to know they don't have masters.]

Would you like some help putting it together?

I don't think she will either, but it is really the only way to guarantee she won't run off unless something else could be set up. A fenced in area maybe.

[Just what they needed... to carry around an outdoor run for a house cat.

At the question, he nodded, with his free hand picking up and holding out his sketch to Lyall to look at. It resembles a capital "Y" with one arm shorter than the other. There's also notes in another language along the side, but its still pretty self-explanatory, the notes seeming to be more calculations for heights and the platform sizes. He might know this language now, thanks to the Atroma, but its still easier for Ulaz to write in Galran]

I'd appreciate the help. Right now, I'm trying to get this piece attached here.

[Lyall starts looking over the sketch. He can't understand the writing but since Ulaz is right there he can always ask if he needs help with anything.

He then looks at where Ulaz is pointing, then nods.]

Are you using screws or nails?

I think screws would be better. They will help hold the weight of the cat jumping on it. Once we get the arm on then we can add the platforms for the cat to sit on.

Have you ever made anything like this before?

Not at all. Werewolves and cats are not usually a good mix. I have built quite a few things in my life, though. There was no shortage of manual labor before I was turned, and even after my pack wasn't exactly rolling in money until much later.

[Since he was turned right after the treaty, packs were only just starting to be recognized and integrated.]

No, I wouldn't think cats would be.

I'm trying not to make it too complicated. Death on the Caprine has indicated that he would be interested in something like this for his cat as well.

Vampires do like cats as companions. I believe they have much in common.

so several different heights... shall we include some sort of dangling strings or toys? Or surfaces that could be scratched?

Not having met a vampire, I will take your word for it.

I was planning on wrapping the main piece in rope to be scratched, which could be replaced as needed. The carpeting would before the platforms the cat can sit on, also for scratching.

I was thinking of dangling toys. Loyalty is very rough such toys, but it is worth a try. If more of these are made, other cats might appreciate them more.

Rope does sound like an excellent idea.

And she is rather... destructive, but if those urges are kept to other things than the wires, it might work out for the best even if we keep having to replace them. They would be easy enough to make.

That is true. It is easier to come up with fabric toys rather than wires for the ship or other such things or having her eat something she shouldn't.

[No chewing his containers with chemicals in them. That's a bad thing for kitty to do]

So once we get the arm on, then we can attach the platforms and whatever will be used to secure toys.

[Very bad. Almost as bad as stealing the teabags and chewing them.]

Let's do that, then.

[Since Ulaz has obviously made the blueprint,, Lyall will be happy to simply follow instructions, hold things in place, and pass along tools as they become needed.]

[The alien medic is worried about chemicals. The engineer werewolf is worried about tea.

Ulaz was more than capable of explaining his directions. For someone whose focus was in the medical profession, he did seem to have the mind for putting things together and explaining it too.

As they are putting the platforms on, he glances back at his diagram]

It is, yes.

Should we maybe weigh down the bottom so it doesn't move when she comes up and down? How heavy is she?

Hmm... She is not a small cat, but I don't know if she would be able to knock it over. Still it is probably for the best in case Procyon pushes against it or one of the cleaning robots doesn't upend it somehow.

We can put the weight underneath so Loyalty can move around it easily.

Ah yes, that is probably best.

What shall we use for it, tough? Maybe we should go forage some more for something suitable.

[Unfortunate, because this planet smells really bad.]

I have a lot of supplies from the planet that I have been storing in case needed. There should be enough that we can find something that will work for a weight.

[So can check his stash first before visiting it again]

Good. I did not fancy going back down so soon. The place reeks.

[It's hell for people with a keen sense of smell, Ulaz.]

I suppose the people who live there are desensitized to it.

They must be. It takes some time for me to stand it so I tried to much as possible at a time to avoid having to continually face it over and over again.

[His sense of smell seems to be over that of a humans, but less than the wolves so he won't inflict it on them unless they have to]

We can go check to see what there is.

[And Ulaz gets up so they can head to his stash]

Lyall will follow so he can help look through the stash, setting aside a few metallic things that look like they might easily attach and that don't have sharp edges or anything that might make it dangerous to the animals.

He does dive carefully though, because in his only few forays down there's he's been burned by a few silver things that he didn't notice at first because they were so grimy.]

[Ulaz settles himself to start looking. He had tried to separate what seemed to be silver when he found it. Given that it was needed for the door on the full moon and they had requested the possibility of silver weapons... just in case, he wanted to have it set to the side for that; also someone had said it made good jewelry if someone wanted to try it.

He'd also tried to clean items so they could be seen, but both silver and dirt may have escaped him with so much.

There were a couple of small pieces he held up]

These may be an option if we can find nothing else.

[Thankfully nothing untowards seems to have been left in the middle of this. Just as well, as Lyall wouldn't have fancied burning himself on top of everything else.]

[Ulaz didn't know everything of how silver worked against the wolves, but he realized it did something to them so he had made sure it was separate as much as possible. He'd have to make another search, but he had gotten the larger pieces.

Ulaz set those pieces aside]

It can also be replaced if we need something heavier.

Absolutely. Let's try it with this first, and then if it needs consolidating, we'll know.

[Because it'll fall down quickly if it's not weighted enough anyway.]

Did you see any that might work? Or should we start with these to see if more are needed?
