While it wasn't broadcasted, between how many people were told and the fact it wasn't exactly a private affair on a very public beach, anyone was welcome to come to this little shindig. Kirk's feelings were mostly that they all could use a break and a chance to relax together as friends, family, teammates, or any other word you chose to assign to the relationships you had on the Fleet. It was a nice break from working in projects too. It was nice to have something to occupy yourself in a creative and useful way, but it was always a good idea to take a break and refresh the brain now and then.

Which was how he came to the idea of a party on Alloy Lake.

He scouted a scrap of land near the water to set up on - beach towels, a cooler with drinks, a mocked up grill to cook some food. He went out later in the afternoon to start with more than enough light to enjoy some swimming, though it would be dark soon enough for certain members to join without being uncomfortable. At which point, a bonfire was built. What? A lack of sunlight is never a reason to stop partying! Especially not with such good company.

[Lyall follows Biffy's gaze and shakes his head, echoing Biffy's sighs.]

I told him the yellow undertones were doing nothing good to his complexion, but he is stubborn.

[Really Kirk's fashion is not completely disastrous, but he just seems to have the strangest notions about colors.]

One would never realize I did, in fact, take him shopping for proper clothes.

[Honestly. It's ridiculous.]

He does persist with some astonishingly surprising choices.

[And really, when Biffy takes you shopping and takes the pain of educating you on fashion, you should listen and apply.]

I don't know what his problem is with wearing colors that are actually flattering on him.

I haven't a clue. He seems to really not care that he could increase his appeal exponentially with the right attire.

[He sighs. So heavily.]

It's almost painfully astounding how little he cares.

Are you ready to call him a lost cause, my Lord?

[There had to be a point where even Biffy would throw the towel and let things go, but somehow, Lyall doesn't quite believe he will this time, because he too, doesn't really get why Kirk only seems to choose clothes that don't make him look particularly good.]

As strange as it sounds, some people do wear the first thing they find in their closet in the morning. I thought he was a bit receptive since he agreed to go shopping with you, but he still has a lot to learn.

Of course not. He is, after all, wearing all the clothes that I got him. This is his first mistake since we had that shopping trip. Which means he can be trained.

[Biffy is very pleased with what he's accomplished with Kirk so far. Of course he's not giving up on him.]

One can hardly break a habit right away. It takes time and effort for that.

Of course.

[He expected as much.]

Are you planning on going swimming?

[Lyall can swim quite well, but he's not much of a fan of it.]

Absolutely not. I have no desire to smell like water associated with this planet.

[His nose wrinkles briefly to show what he thinks of this planet. Surprise, surprise...his reviews are not positive.]

Well, it is true that the scent is rather... pungent.

[To say the least.]

The ball games are rather easy to play.

Quite.

[He hates this planet so much.]

I had noticed the ball games looked simple enough. I was never much for them in life but I suppose I could try one of them tonight.

They do appear to be customary for this type of gathering. As is the absence of chaperones.

[Scandalous, really.]

I have a feeling most people have stopped using chaperones for a quite a long time now.

[It's actually quite fascinating.

That's one word one could use for it, yes.

[From what he understands, there is also no parental approval for marrying or things like that. Rather strange if you ask him, but it probably makes sense in the future.

He's not gonna judge on premarital sex or anything of the kind because everyone knows these things happen, they just pretend they don't.

He will raise an eyebrow at Biffy watching - oggling - other half-naked men. Mostly to tease though. He is pretty safe in his knowledge that Biffy loves him.]

[Biffy gives him the most unashamed smile.]

What? I know you're noticing all the beautiful flesh around us too.

[And he winks at him. Because obviously he would never do more than look. He only wants Lyall, after all.]

[In case Lyall ever forgot who raised Biffy and got him out in the world, this would be enough to remind him. But yes, they both know it's only a little game.

That they can play longer, of course.]

Should I be jealous that you are not being discreet?

[It's not that he hasn't looked, because honestly it would be hard not to, but he's trying not to be blatant about it.]

You could be.

[He leans in close and drops his voice, his lips only a breath away from Lyall's ear.]

If you are then I can make it up to you by doing that thing you love done to your thighs later.

[sandywolf]

[Well, if Biffy's goal was to make Lyall blush crimson, he got his wish. And a glare following that first surprised look at the words.]

Oh is that where we are?

[He gives him such a grin.]

... Will you stop?

[But no, of course he won't. because he finds it cute to make Lyall blush, especially where other people can see it.

Alphas are already a headache, but apparently it's worse when the Alpha is your mate too.]

What fun could you possibly find in flustering me in public, really?

[He laughs softly and leans in to steal a quick kiss to his cheek.]

Because you're cute when you blush and I want the world to see that. And to know that in the end you're still mine despite that.

There really isn't any need for anyone but you to see that.

[Grumble grumble. You are insufferable.]

And I thought that was what the ring was for.

The ring hardly lets me show off how lovely you look when you blush.

[He chuckles a little then touches his hand gently.]

But his fingers still lace through Biffy's so they can hold hands. Since, apparently, it bothers no one in this day and age.]
