It's Party Time [ Open ]

While it wasn't broadcasted, between how many people were told and the fact it wasn't exactly a private affair on a very public beach, anyone was welcome to come to this little shindig. Kirk's feelings were mostly that they all could use a break and a chance to relax together as friends, family, teammates, or any other word you chose to assign to the relationships you had on the Fleet. It was a nice break from working in projects too. It was nice to have something to occupy yourself in a creative and useful way, but it was always a good idea to take a break and refresh the brain now and then.

Which was how he came to the idea of a party on Alloy Lake.

He scouted a scrap of land near the water to set up on - beach towels, a cooler with drinks, a mocked up grill to cook some food. He went out later in the afternoon to start with more than enough light to enjoy some swimming, though it would be dark soon enough for certain members to join without being uncomfortable. At which point, a bonfire was built. What? A lack of sunlight is never a reason to stop partying! Especially not with such good company.

Different times, I suppose. In mine, it would be unthinkable to let ladies cavort with the young men while wearing so little.

And every single woman here is more than capable of handling herself, so maybe keep the chaperone talk to a minimum with them.

Take a dip instead. Water’s on the chilly side, but it shocks the tipsy out of you.

[Alexia Maccon is quite formidable, and even Ivy Tunstell is in her own way. and well, maybe Kirk doesn't know that, but Lyall is one who indiscriminately has dated both men and women, and they usually have one point in common, and that's a strong and dominant personality.

So he will be the last person to tell the ladies to cover up. When in Rome... even if he vaguely disapproves, he knows how to behave in society and he is nothing if not adaptable and adept at being invisible in any setting.]

You do not really have anything that would make a werewolf tipsy here, Captain.

_{[ Kirk could definitely appreciate it. All his best relationships with women had always been with women who had an opinion and could hold their own. And he had no idea what he would do without Uhurah on his crew. ]}

The things that make you tipsy are surprisingly hard to find, and I would not trust such an item from this planet. And I happen to like you, so I have a vested interest in keeping you alive.

I did try to make it up by having plenty of good meat available?

There are also no records of werewolves ever dying of alcohol poisoning of any kind, so I believe you would be safe even if you found something that would lead to intoxication.

And the meat is lovely, thank you.

[He does appreciate the thoughtfulness of including it in the buffet, really.]

I will pass on the swimming, though. I am not the greatest fan of getting my fur wet, I'm afraid.

Fair enough. Plenty to do on dry land. We had a game of volleyball going earlier. Maybe we can get it going again if you care to join?

Well, you might need to explain the rules to me... and I'd need to hold back quite a lot, so I hope that is not going to be a bother.

It's pretty basic. Try and get the ball over the net and make sure your opponents don't get it back over. You can only touch the ball once at a time. So the objective is to toss it between your own players until someone can put it over the net.

That does sound straight forward indeed. I suppose I will indeed only have to make sure I hold back enough to not make it dangerous to others.

[Or just... deflate the ball by hitting it too hard. there's a chance of that happening.]

We'll see who we get on the teams and see if that's the case. I can take a bigger hit than you think myself.

come and join them on the playing field, lit well enough by the high fire
they had built. ]}

I think you might come to like the game.

As sturdy as you are, it will still hurt if I do not control myself, Captain.

But it certainly looks entertaining enough.

_{[ Kirk whistled to get a few people to come and play - thankfully the
beach game didn't need a full compliment, just another two people though if
more got on the court no one was really going to complain. ]}

It's first to 12 wins for a game, and if we're feeling up to and not to drunk, we can do best out of three games.

[Lyall has listened to the rules well, and after one or two trial runs, he feels confident he can do this.

And what he can't make in height - he's easily the smallest on the court - he more than makes up in speed and power, able to catch balls close to the ground to pass to his teammates so they can get them over the net.]

_{[ Kirk is pleased with how quickly Lyall picks up the game. It makes it more fun, for sure. No one else on the teams is as fast or as strong, but they hold their own more than well enough. For a friendly game.

The first game drew to a close and Kirk came to clap Lyall on the shoulder. ]}

You're a natural at this! Having fun?

[Lyall was careful not to hit the ball too hard. He's old enough to have excellent control on his own strength, thankfully.]

It is quite entertaining. And quite the workout with moving on sand.

Right? It's a nice change from working out in the gym. Bet even you'll be sore tomorrow.

Up for another game?

[Lyall... probably won't be sore just from this, but he politely refrains from pointing that out. Anything short of a fight with another werewolf is unlikely to leave him sore.]

Working out is rather unnecessary for a werewolf. Our muscle mass cannot change, and our strength is not linked to it anyway.

[Proof: Lyall is a shrimp. Fit, but still short and scrawny.]

I would not be adverse.

I swear that has to be cheating. So if you die with a six-pack, you always have your six-pack? Though I suppose if you're changed and you have a beer gut, you're kind of stuck with that too, huh?

were reset for the new game. ]}

It is recommended to groom yourself to your own taste before you attempt the change, since it cannot be altered afterwards but for specific circumstances.

[Lyall himself is muscular enough for his small frame, but certainyl not buff outwardly.]

_{[ He as quiet as he considered that and what Lyall had told him so far
about the change itself. He looked at Lyall again as some wheels seemed to

It sounds less like being stuck in time - this frozen drop being pulled along with the rest of the river.

A rather poetic imagery, but not inaccurate.

There are some circumstances that can temporarily turn a supernatural being back to mortal form. We usually try to avoid them as this is potentially dangerous and has been used against us as weapons before. But it does help when you need grooming.

Potentially dangerous? As in people take it away to reduce your strength and other abilities?

Or to kill us. Just because we are integrated into society doesn't mean everyone accepts it. It's hard to kill a vampire or werewolf or ghost, but it is not impossible. It simply requires specialized tools.

Like what? Silver bullets and garlic?

But it is a curious topic. Though he does wonder how you kill a ghost.

Silver-tipped weapons will kill a werewolf, yes. For vampires, a wooden stake is usually your best bet. Garlic doesn't kill them, but they are rather dreadfully allergic to it.

[Technically, vampires and werewolves are already dead too, Kirk.]
