It's Party Time [ Open ]
Who: Jim Kirk & You!
Broadcast: Nope
Action: Yes, Planet-side @ Alloy Lake
When: Sometime in the evening
While it wasn't broadcasted, between how many people were told and the fact it wasn't exactly a private affair on a very public beach, anyone was welcome to come to this little shindig. Kirk's feelings were mostly that they all could use a break and a chance to relax together as friends, family, teammates, or any other word you chose to assign to the relationships you had on the Fleet. It was a nice break from working in projects too. It was nice to have something to occupy yourself in a creative and useful way, but it was always a good idea to take a break and refresh the brain now and then.
Which was how he came to the idea of a party on Alloy Lake.
He scouted a scrap of land near the water to set up on - beach towels, a cooler with drinks, a mocked up grill to cook some food. He went out later in the afternoon to start with more than enough light to enjoy some swimming, though it would be dark soon enough for certain members to join without being uncomfortable. At which point, a bonfire was built. What? A lack of sunlight is never a reason to stop partying! Especially not with such good company.
[ ooc: It's a party on the beach! Make your own starters and have some fun! There's drinks - alcoholic and non - food, a couple of games or make your own, a bonfire later in the night with of course means some kind of smore, swimming, and more. In terms of invite, you can assume you were directly told by Kirk, or told by someone else, or the grapevine. It's open to all, so don't worry to much about it. Have fun! ]

[Not an Earth thing, right? Not with those ears.]
From TV?
no subject
[Taako grins. He figured there wouldn't be, but he had to get the little jab in there anyway. Too bad it went right over Felix's head.]
And yuuuuuuup. Traveling show, celebrity chef [formerly], you know, the whole deal.
no subject
Huh. Interesting. [I mean, it doesn't mean much to Felix, but it's...cool?] Have you met Eugene Woods? He's the cook on the... [Which ship now?] Starstruck. Pretty into the whole cooking thing too.
no subject
Which I had no idea was such a high commodity item here, but apparently? Yeah. I'm basically your bacon-wish-fulfillig god or something.
no subject
I take it by "make", you don't just mean cooking it.
[Because that seems like something Eugene should be able to handle. If he has the supplies. Which they often don't.]
no subject
Nope. Behold.
[He reaches over to a basket he has nearby, plucking an apple from it. Taako never goes anywhere without a snack, but this is a worthy sacrifice to make. He still has macaroons in there anyway.
With a little bit of power, he spins the apple and it changes in color and shape, plumping out to become an orange. With a flourish, he tosses the new fruit to Felix.]
Transmutation, my fella. And whatever I can't transmute, I conjure.
no subject
(He's almost, almost past the point where displays of super-human ability give him pause. Almost. But then, Taako isn't human anyway, is he?)
He catches the fruit when it's thrown to him, digging a finger into the peel curiously to see if there's actually orange beneath the surface too.]
...Huh. Useful.
no subject
Mmhmmm - now you know why I'm in such high demand here. Already have at least one other person trying to poach me to their ship off the First Breath.
no subject
[He continues to stare at the orange for a few more seconds before putting it aside.]
Just a food thing, or does it extend to other things?
no subject
[Taako reaches over to grab the fruit back if Felix isn't going to eat it.]
I can transmute just about anything. A couple need higher level spells, like changing my skin to stone, but most things crave change. It's just a matter of guiding them.
no subject
I guess that's...true...
[Not that he'd ever considered it that way. But Taako isn't wrong, change is a very natural thing.
...Well. He doesn't know if he'd say things "crave" it. But it's something that happens.]
no subject
I know it's true - s'the main principle of transmutation. And also why it takes more energy to force something into change that's unnatural to it. Food is easy, but things like stone and earth are a lot harder.
I'm guessing they don't have any magic where you're from, huh, handsome?
no subject
[He actually manages to sound neutral about all those "special" things. He's learning.]
no subject
[Cleaning? Check. Shopping? Check. Carrying stuff? Check. Staying safe on the road? Wars? ....Sadly check. But! That's not something he'll bring up.]
But also? We're not like [And he throws up some air quotes] "special" or anything. Anyone can learn magic if you put enough effort into it.
no subject
[That's...different from what Felix expects. And it's not ideal - because it still betrays his prejudice - but it does make him think slightly better of Taako. He'd been trying not to think badly of him, but this makes it much easier.]
Huh.
I mean, I assume that still only applies to people from your world. [Felix, for example, probably couldn't pick it up.] But that's interesting.
no subject
[He tosses the white fluff from the orange off to the side, away from his towel and starts peeling sections of the fruit apart.]
Haven't exactly been here long enough, but aren't there augments that'll basically give you magic powers? It's kind of cheating, but means that anyone can channel magic here, given the right circumstances.
no subject
[Felix's expression goes just a little bit carefully blank, his voice a bit...flatter.
Like he's trying to conceal the extent to which that is distasteful to him and not exactly succeeding.]
I'm not exactly interested in letting them frak with head more than they already have, though.
no subject
Faaaaaair.
[Okay, time for an experiment. Taako concentrates and the orange he was picking and sectioning apart starts floating in the air next to him, leaving him with his hands free. It floats just a few feet off the ground, right at prime eating height for Taako where he's sitting on the towel. He keeps his posture nonchalant and watches Felix's expression.]
S'why I tell people to learn the old-fashioned way, straight up learning.
no subject
No, it's not that. It's the mention of the augment. And, by extension, the idea of someone letting themselves be altered.
Which is to say, Felix does watch the orange lift off the blanket by itself but it doesn't seem to bother him. Or, at least, his reaction doesn't get worse. Maybe even a little better, once Taako agrees with him.]
Seems like it would be more fulfilling anyway.
[His tone is definitely less flat, there.]
no subject
[Taako laughs harshly and grabs an orange slice, popping it into his mouth. Good to eat some Vitamin C so he doesn't get space scurvy or something.]
Plus the magic I do can't really be replicated by the augments anyway. They're more evocation or divine than transmutation from what I've seen.
no subject
Evocation? What's that?
[See? Seriously, it's not the magic.]
