While it wasn't broadcasted, between how many people were told and the fact it wasn't exactly a private affair on a very public beach, anyone was welcome to come to this little shindig. Kirk's feelings were mostly that they all could use a break and a chance to relax together as friends, family, teammates, or any other word you chose to assign to the relationships you had on the Fleet. It was a nice break from working in projects too. It was nice to have something to occupy yourself in a creative and useful way, but it was always a good idea to take a break and refresh the brain now and then.

Which was how he came to the idea of a party on Alloy Lake.

He scouted a scrap of land near the water to set up on - beach towels, a cooler with drinks, a mocked up grill to cook some food. He went out later in the afternoon to start with more than enough light to enjoy some swimming, though it would be dark soon enough for certain members to join without being uncomfortable. At which point, a bonfire was built. What? A lack of sunlight is never a reason to stop partying! Especially not with such good company.

[Keith was pretty sure dragons were magic... unless they were like those ones that the cat-people race rode on... nah.]

That's, yeah... sounds magic to me.

[He shakes his head and then pulls his mask off. When he opens his eyes, they are revealed to be golden with the pupils as slits. Reptilian in a way.

Dragon eyes.]

So... are you like... part dragon or something?

[Keith was probably not as surprised by this reveal as some others might be. After all, he was used to seeing some pretty alien looking races by now.]

.........I don't know.

[And that's the truth. Kija tries to explain it but he still doesn't know how it fully works yet.]

[Keith hesitated for a second, and then nodded.]

That happens.

[He didn't know he was part Galra until he activated his mom's blade, so... He understood.]

[The fact that someone actually understands what he means makes him relax, even makes him feel more at ease opening up.]

I just learned that I am one of the Dragons. Not long ago. Kija has been trying to teach me about them.

[Trying. Kija can get...excited. Which makes it very hard to follow.]

[Keith nodded.]

It's weird, right? Finding something like that out. It wasn't that long ago that I found out I'm half-Galra.

[He doesn't know what that word means...Galra. But he does get the feeling behind what Keith is talking about. That it's strange to go your entire life knowing one thing only to learn that what you knew isn't...reality.]

Were people scared of you?

[That question is clear for what that means for Shin-Ah's situation. People have been terrified of this gentle personality in the past.]

[Keith chewed his lip a little.]

Well, when I first found out, it was scary for me. I was nervous of what everyone else would think.

Back home, at that point, we were fighting against the Galra. To find out that I was related to them was kind of a shock.

Most of the team was confused, and started treating me a little differently. They had even more questions that I didn't have the answers to. But, one of us... she... kind of suddenly hated me for a while.

Well, I don't know if she really hated me, but... she was angry. I don't know if she thought I had betrayed or kept it secret from her on purpose, or what. I mean, I had no idea. But it was awkward for a while.

[He listens until Keith finishes. When he's done, he looks down, quiet for a time. When he does speak again there's almost an acceptance to his tone rather than anger or sadness. Like it only makes sense that what he's saying happened.]

I am Seiryuu, born with the Dragon Eyes. When I was born my mother killed herself before she ever held me. My first memories are of darkness when the mask was placed on my face.

[His hand lightly touches the mask he's wearing. The mask with painted eye holes rather than real ones. Slowly his hand falls again.]

I was kept away from others with Ao. Until...until Ao died when all his power became mine. After he died, soldiers were coming to the village. I was too small to hold a sword but my eyes...

They all died and my village knew they couldn't remain where they were while they had this monster in their care. So we went to the mountains and lived in the caves with me as deep in as possible so they wouldn't have to be near me.

[He should be upset or hurt by this but he seems...fine. Like it only makes sense that they'd do this to a child.]

I didn't know what I was until Yona and the others came and brought me into the light. Until Yona gave me my name and showed me that there was more to me.

People can do some pretty mean things when they're scared.

[Keith wasn't sure how far to push this. There were elements he didn't know about... the whole mystical half of this thing with the dragon stuff. But, at its very base, it was still something he'd seen time and again at the group home... an orphan kid left alone and neglected by people who didn't know what to do with him.

Still... that tone of just... acceptance... it bothered Keith. Even when he'd been in the middle of it, he'd known it was wrong. He knew loving families were possible. He just didn't have one anymore.]

That doesn't make them right for it. [Though, really... what could be done about it now, other than making sure the cycle didn't continue?] You know that, right? What they did? It wasn't right.

[He shakes his head.]

They were only scared of being hurt and believed they were cursed.

[It's fine. Now they can find a way to be happy without him there.]

[Keith frowned a bit.]

Did anyone ever even try to figure it out? To help you?

[He tilts his head to the side.]

There was nothing to be done. My village didn't have the knowledge for that. Those born the Seiryuu are monsters to be kept hidden away until the next one is born.

Well, I don't think you're a monster. You seem like a good person. And you deserve to be treated that way... not like a monster.

[There's a loooooooooooong moment of silence.]

[That's the right reaction, right?]

[Keith wasn't sure if it got through, and, frankly, he wasn't sure if it would have gotten through to him, either, honestly. So, he nodded.]
