Who: Taako and alllll y'all
Broadcast: Yes
Action: First Breath
When: 11/7
[Taako's not wearing his costume today, but considering what he is wearing? People might not be able to tell the difference. He's lying on his bed on the First Breath, the wall behind him carpeted in mismatched beaded curtains and hung with shawls of various colors and patterns. He's wrapped up in a giant rainbow colored feather boa and a shimmery white shirt with his wizard hat decked out in rainbow ribbons and stars - it's a huge mess and he doesn't look like he cares.]
Sooo question for all of you nerds out there: anyone out there have experience with dimensional or planar magic or travel?
Because besides the party - which was totally great - this "drift" thing is boring the shit out of me. I thought about blowing something up just to break up the monotony, but I figured learning something might be a smidge more useful.
[But only a smidge.]

But she also isn't about to ignore it because 1) it's Taako, duh, and 2) she wants to know what he's up to.
Time to get creative.]
Are you looking for specific stories or do you want to talk theory? Because if it's the former, we're gonna have some problems.
[And that excuse is getting old, but there's not much to be done about it at this point...]
no subject
But if the Voidfish Boogaloo won't let you tell me one, just go with the other.
no subject
[Once he starts hearing static she can veer off and try a different angle. They'll figure something out.]
I used to travel between planer systems. I... guess technically as a job, though it kind of got out of hand at the start. It was mostly on the Prime Material plane, but we'd poke our noses into the others when we had to. You know the full concept of the Twelve, yeah?
[Cheating again- she'd been with him in the Miller lab, but she's not sure how much he either paid attention or retained of that time. And since he can't remember living it, better to be sure.]
no subject
Ha! That would piss that little weasel off.]
Ugh that thing the nerd was talking about? Yeah, I'm familiar.
[And he'd taken some time to look into it after Miller had gotten his ass ejected from the Bureau for being a total knob. He still wished he'd gotten a blow or two in on that little shit, but the giant ghost golem thing had been a liiiiittle more pressing at the time.]
All the different realms, all interconnected, blah blah mirrors and colors.
no subject
Okay... well, you know how it goes, then. The whole idea is that the planes exist simultaneously, and many of them exist exactly parallel to the Material plane. The inner planes are like that, it's why Blink works the way it does. They work the way they do because no two planes ever share the same space at the same time- they do, but they don't, right? Like if you used Blink and walked into the same space where someone's standing in the Material plane, and Blinked back, you'd get your insides kicked around and pushed out of the way. Or say if your doofus fighter buddy tried to stand inside a Red Robe for a laugh and that Red Robe phased back into existence.
[Which- Magnus, really? He's lucky Barry would never intentionally hurt him like that.]
Shit goes real bad, don't cross the streams.
no subject
[But yes, points taken. The planes are as they are, and they're still functioning here or he wouldn't be able to Blink. He thinks. Maybe? It's fuzzy, but he wouldn't be able to reach that plane if it didn't exist here, which means this world is still somewhat running on the same principles even if they're all stretched out of whack.]
But right right, don't go trying to stand inside something else. Generally bad idea. It's why dimensional spells like Blink just bounce you to the next available space. A lot less messy.
no subject
Yeah, exactly. The Astral Plane and the Plane of Thought work similarly, though the latter's more complicated- never been there, myself. I don't think there's a specific way to visit. Same with the Celestial Plane- it's usually a one-way street, the gods send their divine power to their clerics and whatnot, but those clerics can't just pop in for a visit. The plane of Magic is more complicated, it siphons power into the Material plane, but the raw energy would mostly likely tear you up if you tried to swing by. The whole system's got checks and balances to make sure things don't go out of whack.
[She can't help but think of that one plane they'd visited, the empty world without life, without so much as a shifting time, all because it had fused itself with another plane of existence. Magic had guided that world, and it had ripped apart life itself when they got too greedy. That was probably the world where she and Barry had learned the most about the Light, the planes, all of it.]
The outer worlds are less fussy. Their existence fueled whatever made the Material plane, but they exist wholly separate from it. It's why you need the more powerful spells or a portal to reach those planes. It's fair to assume that every system has at least some form of all twelve planes, otherwise there'd be no balance between anything- life, death, the elements, the physical and immaterial... we can use magic here, and the dead go somewhere before they're brought back, and everything we come across is made up of known materials. You can use Blink, I can... do some stuff. [Lich stuff.] We're blocked from using the other planes to escape, but they definitely exist here.

My world doesn't have any of that.

And in various forms it's there - spells that let us cross the barriers between planes, the usual.
I guess your world might be cut off from the Plane of Magic somehow. Sorta sad. No wizards or warlocks or clerics or anything for you?
no subject
[ Just a lot of humans and even more undead. It's a hoot and a half. ]
no subject
[But he gets the idea.]
So just humans huh? Must be wild for you here then.
no subject
Yeah, mostly. It's actually really cool? There's tons of interesting people here.
no subject
[No tieflings means probably no dragonborn or halflings or anything. What a crazy world to exist in.]
What kind of people have you met so far? Besides this very awesome elf, natch.

If you don't mind him looping back to check older messages
[And occasionally he uses them to steal planes...]
"..Though I won't fault your other proposed pasttime."
[He could appreciate a little destruction when it's not his things.]
I never mind!
So do you have any such devices or any notes on that here, my dude? 'Cause Taako's bored and figured learning some new stuff might keep him outta trouble - and you seem like Miller levels of nerdery so you might have some good stuff.
<3
[Well now! How can he resist such genuine praise and curiosity.]
"Mm sort of. The trouble I've run into in this Universe is that the physics work on a fundamentally different level than I am used to. We're talking different amounts in measurement scales, different temperatures for boiling and freezing; it's less of an apple suddenly becoming an orange and more like an orange becoming a board of backgammon. BACKGAMMON!"
[He drags up a notepad so full of numbers their chicken scratch takes up the entire portion of the page and a generous tail of the scroll is still visible trailing off screen. is that nerdy enough for you, Taako?]
"I've had to relearn many of my equations, and I'm STILL finding exceptions! Very frustrating. I don't suppose these would interest you?"
no subject
Mmm, no. I'm an idiot and you're waaaay beyond me, my man. I'm mostly just curious to see what people have done by way of checking this place out. I use magic so the whole "different temperatures" for freezing and boiling haven't affected me or my cooking all that much. It can't be that big of a difference though since I haven't flubbed anything in the kitchen yet.
But do go on. At least it gives me some white noise in the background.
no subject
[That's all right Taako, the people in Flug's universe don't know what to make of his special brand of weird either. He puffs a papery sigh.]
"Perhaps it's for the best. I've been here half a year and nearly everyone I try to conduct business with or share intel with seems to leave. I even offered to go to prison when I first arrived here and Atroma denied me."
[Hold on a moment though.]
"Why the curiosity about inter-dimensional travel? Is it something you have prior experience with, yourself?"
[Perhaps he can 'dumb it down' if he has some starting point to work off of.]
no subject
Well, maybe. Who knows where they go if they get smart enough to figure out the Atroma's game. Going home is the prize, so messing with the system would lead to...what? Imprisonment?]
No real experience here, my man. I can cast a few spells that'll take me from one plane to the other, but nothing like this place. Taking a person from one reality to another? Thaaaat's some crazy shit.

[And for them because Taako knows Krav would take him and Lup outta here in a heartbeat.]
How're you dealing with it?

I AM FALLING BACK INTO OLD AND NEW HOBBIES. GARDENING KEPT ME BUSY BACK HOME AND NOW I AM COOKING MORE.
no subject
Not sure if gardening would work for him though. He kinda tried to kill a cleric of the god Pan, so I dunno how chummy he's able to get with plants. Cooking though? That I can get behind. What d'you cook?
