Iskaulit - The Dojo

[This is a place where Kogarasumaru offers swordsmanship lessons but also a chance for people to spar in safety. However, today this space doesn't appear to be used for either of those things. In fact, if one is to come to this space for either they will instead find the tiny sword dancing. There's no music but it almost seems like it doesn't require it really. There's a sort of tranquility to his expression as he moves before he turns towards the one who has stepped inside and offers a smile as he holds his hand out towards that person.]

Will you watch or dance?

[He's now paused in his motions as he waits for the answer.]

Iskaulit - Fox Park

[Despite the snow, there is a pretty young man sitting there with a fox sleeping on his lap while he strokes the fur gently. He has no shoes or gloves on and clearly doesn't appear to be bothered by the snow. Is it cold? Well he's showing no signs of caring about that or even recognizing the fact and instead just enjoying the company of his companion.

Seeing someone, he lifts a finger to his painted lips in a soft shhh before smiling.]

Softly now. This little one sleeps.

Iskaulit - Hallway

[At some point he'll be found simply standing in a hallway looking thoughtful. There's really not much else going on honestly. He's just sort of looking off into the distance pondering something. At least until he notices that he isn't alone. At that point he'll turn with one of his customary smiles.]

Would you happen to be able to tell this father which establishment you would recommend for drinks? I would like to partake in one right now.

[Who better to ask than another person, right?]

[That movement from before? It happens again. And this time a fox darts out to sniff at Ulaz, seeming to linger closer to Kogarasumaru who it obviously knows.]

Hello, little one. Have you finally come to meet Ulaz?

[Oh look, one of the foxes finally came out. Ulaz watched silently as it came forward cautiously. He was still tall even though he was sitting on the ground. He was not surprised the fox stood closer to Koga since he had been here enough.

After a moment, he slowly extended a hand, presenting the back side of his hand in case the fox wanted to sniff. Procyon seemed to do that and others would do that with some of the canines, like it helped them understand better]

[The fox slowly moves forward to sniff at his hand. Looking to Kogarasumaru, it seems to see if the sword is relaxed around this person. He smiles at the little creature and strokes the fur before actually picking it up and...

...putting it right on Ulaz's lap.

The fox looks around before deciding that this person works and curls up on his lap to demand attention.]

[Well, the fact that the fox looks to Kogarasumaru for a sign of his character is telling for how often he is with these animals. Not just one, but two felt comfortable enough with him.

Aaaand now he has a fox in his lap. Tiny thing that it is, it looks even smaller next to him. But as it curls up, seemingly content there, Ulaz brings his hand down to gently stroke its fur. His lips quirk slightly in a faint smile]

It seems you have made a friend now, Ulaz.

[Good. He's pleased to see that. One so huge and made for fighting able to simply bring affection and comfort to a tiny creature only eager for love. It's good for Ulaz, he thinks.]

It seems that I have. I am not opposed to this.

[Ulaz may be more intimidating because of height and appearance, but he really wasn’t as harsh as he seemed. Having spent time around humans and other races who more openly showed their emotions had helped too.

So he had no problem sitting there showing affection for a small animal]

They seem to trust you a lot.

I have been here several times. When I found out there was no one to watch the park I felt it necessary to earn their trust so I could handle their care.

[He reaches over to pet the fox cuddling with Ulaz.]

I also feel that my children can come to this place to relax for a time. Were it not so cold I would bring my bird as well but he prefers the warmth.

That is a wise idea. If they are expecting you to be here and see you as someone safe, then they are more likely to be around when you need to check on them or if one of them is injured.

[He looks down at the fox as Kogarasumaru reaches over to pet it]

You have a bird? I don't know that I have seen your bird.

He seems to enjoy my room but sometimes I take him places. He is quite beautiful though. I obtained him on one of the planets we visited.

[Ulaz is finding strangely that he likes animals. Procyon on his ship, the animals the other paladins have, these foxes... there’s something nice about them. There was no judgment the way more sentient beings could be]

If you do bring him out at some point, I should like to meet him.

Perhaps the next time we train I will bring him. That way you can meet him then.

I would like that. I have not had the opportunity to see many avian creatures here. Most of the paladins and others on the ships have dogs or cats of some variety. The only one truly different is that Lance has one he calls a cow.

[Pidge’s space caterpillar is not strange to him so it didn’t seem worth mentioning]

A cow? What a lovely creature. Useful as well. Humans have kept them for centuries as a way of getting extra food.

There are similar creatures on different worlds, but they are not the same. Lance was particularly excited about being able to get fresh milk when she first arrived. Apparently the cow is smaller than normal, but has not become younger.

So the cow can still be milked but she is smaller in size?

As I understand it, yes. She is still the same as if she were fully grown, just smaller. I have not seen one at full size to be able to judge.

They are quite large. Something I don't just mean because I am very small. I believe it would have the head reach your chest at least.

Are they now? That is big creature.

[Not even touching the comment that he’s short. He doesn’t see height as a disadvantage, just sometimes an inconvenience]

Of course. They typically provide enough milk to feed entire families. Of course, that practice is rarer in Japan but I know it is still common practice in some places.

Remarkable. I was not aware how big they could actually get. Lance's Kaltenecker is quite small compared to me. Cows are not common in Japan?

I would say that is more accurate that milk is not as common in Japan. At least it wasn't in my time save for feeding infants, a task done by a mother. I'm not certain if that has changed with the modern age. I've not been able to really see for myself.

Of course. I understand. It would be interesting to find out if it has changed. I know there are some here from Japan. They may have an idea if it is something that needs to be answered.

[He is still petting the fox, oddly pleased that it hasn't gotten up and wandered off. He does smile faintly]
