[Victor finally changed out of the striped suit he'd been wearing when he arrived. Not knowing if there was a proper medical uniform, he went with blue scrubs. Seemed like a safe bet. His hair is still darkened, since he didn't want to waste resources getting hair dye. And he's already made himself at home in the Heron's sick bay]

So I finally made it onto a space ship. I want to be excited about it. We're going to be out there exploring new worlds, discovering new life, boldly going and all that. And yet... [He sighs] This isn't really how I thought it'd go. Though if this is some ridiculous reality show, it would figure that they did it this way. Increasing drama, I guess.

Crew of the Heron, I'm your new medical officer. Or doctor or whatever it's called here. I'll keep my office hours flexible if you need anything. I've heard a lot of stories about living and working on a star ship. In spite of everything, I'm looking forward to it.

[And with that, he sets about cataloging all the stuff in the sick bay so he knows where all the medicine and equipment is. He doesn't know whether or not any of his new crew will come by, but he'll keep the door open for them just in case]

I don't really know. I'll figure it out once I look around the planet.

Fair enough. I don't think I got your name. I'm Kitty Pryde, captain and engineer of the Twin Roses. And one of the X-Men, but that title doesn't get as much use here.

[jolting]

Victor Frankenstein. I don't really know what an X-man is, so the title doesn't mean anything to me.

[passingthrough]

...Say what now? [There would have been a time not recognizing the X-Men would have thrown her but she's years past that time. But hearing "Victor Frankenstein" still manages to throw the girl a little.]

[jolting]

Victor Frankenstein. Like in the famous novel and the movies.

[passingthrough]

Wait so... You know you're from the novels and movies or you wanted to use a fake name and that's the one you picked? Or just that's your name and it's unrelated?

[jolting]

I know that there are movies and novels based on my story. The Boris Karloff one got a fair bit right, but I enjoy the humor in the Gene Wilder one.

[passingthrough]

[She nods slowly.] Someone told me they knew me from comic books once. [She didn't read too much into someone being random at the time, but she recognized people occasionally and knew people who did it more often.]

So you're okay with it? [Not that there are a lot of options.] Wait, did you actually make a...person? [Saying monster seems harsh when talking to the doctor.]

[jolting]

Comic book... Yeah, X-men does have a comic book-sounding ring to it. Henry was into those, he'd probably recognize you.

I like that people have known about me for two hundred years. [He chuckles, shakes his head] No, but I did bring two dead people back to life.

[passingthrough]

You look good for being two hundred. [She's not sure if that's how it actually shakes out or not or if it's time travel. She's seen a little of both.]

Two people? I don't remember a Henry. Was he one of the people you brought back?

[jolting]

Thank you, but I'm not. Just the story that was written by Ms. Shelley.

No, he's just a boy who lives in the same town as me. He's into a lot of stories.

Ah... A lot of people must have recognize your name even in these places. Is that awkward?

[jolting]

No, not really. I imagine it's a little similar to being a celebrity.

[passingthrough]

Probably. I've never been either. A celebrity or a wildly known figure. Although occasionally people I don't recognize do know me, but that's more parallel dimension fun.

So, you probably have some questions?

[jolting]

Right. I do know about those, even if it hasn't happened to me personally yet.

Just one I can think of at the moment: why are you called an X-man?

[passingthrough]

[She's a little surprised he chooses a question about her and not the place, but she answers it just as willingly. It's nice when people are curious about her too.]

It was the name of my team back home. We were the X-Men. I always assumed he picked the name because we were born with the X-gene which made us mutants in the first place. [She didn't wonder if it had something to do with Xavier until she started talking to other mutants in these places.]

[jolting]

So the name of the gene is X? That's a little boring. Though maybe that's the idea, to make it seem innocuous.

Some people call it the X-Factor. It's on the 23rd chromosome. That's all I've got for the science though. No long Latin name that I know of.

[jolting]

The X-Factor? That sounds like a television show.

I guess it would be hard to call it one thing, since the result is so many different variations.

[passingthrough]

There's definitely a range of results. I didn't meet anyone else with my abilities until I got abducted. And then they had the similar abilities for different reasons.

[jolting]

How long have you known about your ability?

[passingthrough]

Since I was thirteen. They like to spring up with puberty though not always. Like there's not enough going on then, right?

[jolting]

I imagine it's even more of an adjustment if you don't have someone older to turn to for help and advice.

And that's why there are X-men, right? To give you that community.

[passingthrough]

[He's not wrong about that. She held it in for awhile as well as she could because of what it meant if she was different. What it did mean in the end was tragedy on a scale she's never fully recovered from. A bit much for a casual chat with someone she just met even for her.] That is an optimistic read on why we had the X-Men since my world was broken and full of fighting and death. But there was a definite family aspect to it despite that, yes. [This is the breezy version.]

Every world is broken on some scale. Having people around who understand what you're going through helps a lot, though.

It's like how I feel about Storybrooke. We deal with fighting and death, too, but we all get through it together.
