[ This planet is terrible and it should feel terrible. Whoever decided to dedicate an entire planet to cold and snow needed to be thrust into space. Naturally, he takes refuge in the local tavern, on his own for a change. He starts the evening at the bar nursing a glass of wine before being honest with himself and his tastes and ordering a tankard of beer. It's cheap, deplorable, and reminds him of Ferelden. Which means he loves it.

The music is normal tavern fair, jovial and something one could dance to, but that's not what has his attention- it's the elven woman sitting in the corner plucking away at her instrument in tune with the melody. He wanders over in her direction, taking a seat in a nearby empty chair. ]

The melody is quite lovely, you should play it loud enough for everyone to enjoy.

[She glances over as he sits, ears flicking in his direction, hands pausing at her plucking. She'd been sort of lost in the moment; it's rare for her not to pick up on someone's approach.

Something about him is familiar, too, though she can't quite place it. The fleet maybe?]

Nah, they're the paid professionals here. I'm just a novice using their music to practice.

[She's decent at the craft - she's composed her own music, had sixty or so years to poke away at the hobby - but she's no bard. If she joined their stage they'd leave her in the dust. It's nice of him to say, though.]

Professionals or no, I much prefer yours.

[ He waves a hand for her to continue, making himself comfortable in his chair. ]

[Her lips curve into a smirk.]

Well, someone's a charmer.

[She does continue with her gentle plucking, though, so at least they can enjoy it privately at their table.]

You with the fleet?

[ Dorian laughs easily, laying on his natural charm and wit. ]

My dear lady, I am always charming, you just haven't learned properly, yet.

[Ooh, one of those types, eh? Who can't talk without laying on the flirty charm.]

Lup, of House Kickass, security on the Heron. I thought you were kinda familiar- you're Bull's friend, aren't you?

[ There is absolutely no off switch on this guy, sorry, Lup. At the mention of Bull, his eyebrow quirks and he takes a rather long sip of wine. ]

[She reaches out and raises her glass in half-salute, the other hand still plinking gently at her instrument with base notes until she gets both hands on it again.]

He mentioned you a while back, said we might like a chat. I think he meant you, anyway. You the necromancer fella?

He mentioned my necromantic prowess, did he? That sappy lummox.

[ He has to specify which prowess, because Bull is nothing if not a braggart. A loud, unapologetic one, at that. ]

I've many skills as a mage, but my specialties lie within necromancy as well as thaumaturgy.

[Thankfully (and for once) their sex life did not actually come up in conversation.]

He was asking me what I can do, and I let slip that I knew a few necromancy spells, so it was topical. My specialty's evocation, mostly, but I've got my hands in lots of pies.

[ Praise the Maker, miracles do exist. ]

What sorts of pies would those be?

[She wiggles her fingers with a cheeky grin.]

Delicious pies, if we're speaking literally. I'm also quite the chef. But more specifically, I've dabbled in transmutation, conjuration, and a bit of illusion magic. You could say I like to try everything before I settle down for the long haul.

I can certainly understand the reasoning. I had quite a similar experience before my mind was set on Necromancy.

Necromancy's an interesting field. It never really clicked with me- same with divination. Lots of life and death spells, meddling with how time and future works... it was too indirect for me. I can see the appeal, and there's some very cool spells, but it wasn't my thing. Used to theorize it to death with my beau, though.

...Ha. To death.

You prefer a more direct approach, I see. There is, of course, nothing wrong with that. However, I chose my path because it was the most difficult form of magic to perfect. There are very few necromancers due to the difficulty as well as its more taboo connotations. Granted, most of these are horribly misunderstood..

Well, yeah. Most people get kinda twitchy at occult stuff involving animating corpses and creepy bullshit. Not that I really mind, but some folks are more close-minded. It better suits guys with ambition like you.

Another common misconception. It's not so much animating the corpse as it is drawing spirits that are lured by death. Though, I suppose to anyone on the other end, would be quite frightening.

...Well. Maybe your necromancy doesn't involve animating corpses.

[The version she knows certainly does, on occasion.]

Yours sounds pretty rad, though.
