Wallachia? [Connor doesn't know that one. Maybe it was a name only briefly used in the past, and not relevant enough for it to be part of his information base. The year is a different matter.] That's nearly six-hundred years before my own time. It's no wonder you haven't heard of androids.

It resides near the South Carpathian mountains, next to Transylvania.

But yes, many people are not aware of plumbing and heating. The common folk live poorly and without proper medicine or science.

Ah, I see. [He does know about Transylvania. That gives him a better idea of location.] That sounds right, from what I know about that time in history.

I am from the year 2038, on a continent known as North America. I don't believe it had been located by Europeans in your time yet.

Another continent? No, I have not heard of it.

[ that's neat. knowing there's more to the world. but alucard has always known that, even if he hasn't explored it. ]

That's not surprising, given your time period.

[Part of him is flagging how ludicrous it is to believe he's talking to a man from the actual Dark Ages, but that part of him has been flagging things non-stop since he got here. He's gotten better at ignoring the blaring warnings about logical impossibilities.]

Is the nature of space travel difficult for you to process?

[ alucard pauses, taking his time to answer. ]

No. I believe we have the ability to surpass all limits, so to hear that we have succeeded does not surprise me.

I imagine the information provided by the augments also helps with that.

[ananym]

[ he nods. ]

Certainly. And I've never been one prone to anxiety or panic.

[coinstability]

That will make this situation easier to manage in the long run.

[Connor is new to both anxiety and panic, and has already decided he doesn't like either of them. Shame he's had both in various degrees for weeks.]

[ alucard nods, polite. ]

I am called Alucard.

It's nice to meet you. Are you looking for something in these caverns?

[ananym]

[ a beat. ]

There is a famed tree located here. One that grants wishes, I believe.

[coinstability]

I've heard those rumours, but haven't been able to verify them or get a specific location. Do you think it exists?

[Connor has his doubts. More by the day, really, but one thing at a time.]

[ananym]

[ hmm. alucard takes his time before responding. ]

I have no reason to doubt its existence just yet.

[coinstability]

[Well, I have them Connor thinks, but opts to be less blunt than that in his response.]

I'm not familiar with the existence of such things in my own world, so I'm finding it less easy to believe it without seeing evidence.

I can see that. However, myself and the fantastical have always existed in tandem. So I am less likely not to disbelieve in myth.

[ he is one, after all. ]

What do you mean by that exactly?

[Because it sounds like magic or fantasy territory, which Connor is only just getting a grasp of.]

[ananym]

I was a myth to the people of Gresit. I slept under their catacombs and they called me the Sleeping Soldier.

[coinstability]

So... you lived in catacombs and they formed stories about you? [Connor can't imagine why someone would live in an underground grave site, unless they had few other options or were engaged in something they didn't want others to see.] For what purpose?

I was there to recuperate from a wound. What I hadn't realized was that I was fulfilling an old prophecy. And the stories built themselves around my presence.

[coinstability]

[Prophecies - another abstract, mystical concept that doesn't get much play in Connor's experience of the world. His confusion is evident when he pauses, figuring out how to reply to that.]

And this prophecy ... was it something that happened as expected?

[ananym]

[ alucard takes a moment to reply. ]

As I was found by a scholar and a hunter . . . it fulfilled the parameters.

[coinstability]

[Fulfilling parameters is something Connor understands, it's just that applying it to something as abstract as a prophecy doesn't sit right. Anything framed vaguely enough could seem prophetic if it came to pass. With a sigh, Connor is reminded that he really has no experience in this area, and his default position is to dismiss it. He's trying not to do that.]

[ he smiles faintly. ]

It is a strange world I live. Not stranger than here, but strange indeed.
