But what if it isn't safe? It might be poisonous! You could get really sick!
[ She is So Very Worried!! ]
How do you feel? Are you okay?
[ 'Cause she is totally prepared to start whipping up an antidote as necessary!! ]
no subject
[With a blink, he realises what she's concerned about. He shakes his head, spreading his hands in explanation.]
I'm fine, you don't need to be concerned. I'm an android, I can't be poisoned or become ill.
no subject
[ She blinks too, confused, head tilting to one side. ]
Wait... What's an android? --Oh! Sorry, is that a rude question?
no subject
Androids are robots designed to look like a human. I'm not organic, so things like poison don't affect me.
no subject
Oh! Like an automaton! Almost. [ She smiles. ] So you really will be fine. I'm glad.
[ Wait. ]
So, you eat things to figure out what they're made of?
no subject
[He shakes his head.]
Not quite. I can analyse the chemical composition of substances through my tongue. I don't actually eat anything.
[There's nowhere for it to really go.]

[If he runs into a truly alien chemical or compound out here, would he even be able to process it? Or would it just be a big 'unknown' in his system? Now there's something that would irritate him.]
no subject
[ Apparently it's time for her nerd flag to fly-- ]
If I wanted to do that with something, I'd have to find a way to completely dismantle it, separate all the components, probably using totally different techniques for each one-- Um... [ She blushes a little when she catches herself rambling. ] Anyway! Could you... update your data? With alien substances? I mean... assuming we could even get data like that.
no subject
[Well, being a nerd is no deterrent to Connor, who is hard coded to know this sort of thing.]
I could, if I did find something I couldn't identify. [He rubs his chin in thought.] I don't know yet what kind of information I would get out of something like that. I would probably cross-reference with someone with a lab support augment to confirm what details we can.
no subject
[ Nnnnot quite, Escha, but good try? ]
Oh, I'm lab support! I've been taking notes in every system we've been to, including this one. I'm sure they're far from perfect, but I did my best... Maybe I could help?
(( OoC: Aaaah I got totally and unexpectedly bulldozed by the holidays, I'm so sorry! If it's been too long, I totally get it! ))

You could say forensics is the natural successor to some of alchemy's principles. Alchemy itself was discredited as a field a long time ago.
[But the mention of notes is promising.]
If you do have some, I would be interested in seeing them. This is the first planet I've been to on the Fleet.
no subject
Oh... So it's old where you're from, too? I see. It's still a thing in my world. I am one! [ She's back to smiling! ]
Sure! Let's see...
[ She reaches into the bag slung over her shoulder, starts rummaging around... and she pulls out her network device! Then she starts poking through that, swiping on the screen a few times until... ] Got it! Here! [ She hands it to him! There's a file open, with a lot of (pretty well organized!) notes specifically about this planet. Native flora, fauna, and other materials are described, then compared to similar things that exist on her world. There isn't anything too specifically scientific, and definitely nothing at the molecular scale yet, but she's left plenty of room for expansion. ]
There will be more once I run a few tests in my atelier-- uh, my lab, too. Does that help you at all?
no subject
Yes, alchemy as it was hasn't been studied in a long time. What do you do as an alchemist?
[Frankly, Connor's knowledge on historical fields of science isn't much better than your average dictionary definition. It wasn't something particularly relevant to criminal investigations.
As Escha holds out the communicator he takes it in hand, flicking through the screens faster than the norm. He's still doing it by hand though, not intent on connecting to someone else's device just yet. His eyebrows tick upwards slightly once he's skimmed through the notes. This is comprehensive given the amount of time they've spent here. A good base to work from.]
You've done a considerable amount of work here already. [It takes time to observe and document things, he knows that. Looking up again, he nods at her question.] It does. Is that why you're down here in these caverns?
no subject
[ She's pretty proud of her work, that much is clear~ But more than that, she's quite happy that he finds her notes helpful! She smiles all the more. ]
Mhm! I thought there might be more things down here I haven't found yet, and I want to be thorough. [ Nod! ] Is that why you're here, too?
