[ He's taken a little while to try to keep it together, to check the roster, to make sense of it against what he's learned about the Fleet so far, and to at least get himself leveled out enough to talk. ]

Maggie is, um... she's not on the ship. She's still on the roster, but she's not here.

[ A pause, a steadying breath, and onward - ]

I know that's supposed to mean she'll be back, but if anyone's been through this, if it was you or if it was someone you know here... how long are people gone when this happens? And they do all come back, right? As long as they're still on the roster? [ A moment - ] Are they okay?

[ That's... a lot to start with, he knows. It's everything that matters. And then, ]

It's happened to me. A few times, actually. I guess I'm okay.

[ That's hopeful - heck, Keith's here, which is enough. ]

Did you always come back with new memories?

[tempredmental]

Yeah, actually. I did. I don't know if anyone's come back without new memories, though.

And some of those memories came with some physical changes, too, once, so... there's that.

Huh.

Changes from things that happened to you, in your memories?

[tempredmental]

[Keith nodded.]

One of the recent ones that happened to me, I was in a fight back home and, when I came back, I had the injuries still.

[rheecon]

[ He takes a deep breath. ]

So it's like people really get to go home, huh? Even if they don't actually leave.

[tempredmental]

Yeah. It's really kind of crazy. I'm not really sure how it works, to be honest, but I know it does.

[Keith hesitated for a moment before continuing.]

You and Maggie... you're together, right?

[rheecon]

[ He takes a deep breath, taking that in. It's fair. Nothing here seems to have any straightforward answers, and in most cases, he can deal with that well enough, all things considered. But this..

Well. He's happy to shift away from that, even slightly. ]

Yeah. She's my wife.

[tempredmental]

[Keith nodded.]

We have a good number of couples in the Fleet. It's nice to have that, huh?

[rheecon]

[ He gives a smile back, a little less down. ]

Yeah. Always helps to have someone you know is with you like that, for whatever comes at either of you.

[ And hey, because Keith's the one who mentioned it (and he doesn't want to dwell on himself) - ]

How about you, do you have someone here?

[tempredmental]

Yeah... someone from back home like you. It's good, comforting when things get really weird out here, you know?

[Keith smiled a little, something of a wistful look.]

Yeah, something to hold onto that makes sense, even with all of this.

[ And, well - he doesn't need to get into more than that, really. Not now, if he's not going to falter again. ]

It really makes it all seem easier to handle.

[tempredmental]

[Keith nodded.]
