[Manji had seen Katie had left on the roster. He checked after hearing Makie had left and saw her name listed there. Still he waited another week before returning to the ship, half expecting them to come back.

He quietly looks around Katie’s abandoned room as if to assure himself she’s really gone before picking up an item and walking out again to return to the Iskaulit. It has been more of a home to him then the Vanquish has been. Which is why when he makes his broadcast it’s in the garden on the Iskaulit.]
Katie is gone if you haven’t checked the rosters. Don’t know if she left anyone anything as I didn’t check, but you can look at her room if you want. Sorry. I guess. [He’s really not good at this sort of thing.

He thinks he has turned the broadcast off as he tosses the communicator down on the ground. Maybe he did and it’s turned itself back on, but either way it gives a crocked shot of Manji standing with the item he stole from Katie’s room: her lightsaber.]
How’dcha turn it on again? [He gives it a couple wags in his hand before the beam erupts from the handle as Manji yelps in surprise.] SHIT! [At least he didn’t stab himself with it this time? He turns the handle over in his hand several times.] There we go.

[okay that? that has her attention. Not so much the announcement about Katie leaving, because she'd been aware of that, but the lightsaber. That's new and she can't help but notice how similar that looks to, well, the lightsabers she's seen.]

Where did you get that?

[Crap. That thing is on again. Manji doesn't answer right away as it takes him a couple tries to turn the lightsaber off and stow it back into his kimono before he can come over and pick up his communicator with the one arm that he has.

Leia will also probably notice that the lightsaber is a bit smaller than most. Almost as if it might have been made for someone with much smaller hands. Like perhaps a child. It also will not look exactly like the lightsabers from Leia's home. Instead it looks more like someone tried to make one of their own using parts from what they could find around the fleet and on different planets. That could be why this lightsaber glows a faint yellowish white colour when it's turned on.] I didn't steal it. [Said every thief ever.] I'm just looking after it.

[A friend of Katie's? Is she going to try to take it from him? Over his dead body! He had to put up with Katie as a captain for nearly a year! He deserves at least her cool sword.]

[To be fair, Leia's extensive experience with lightsabers is limited to only one in particular, and even then she hasn't really examined it. She's just more seen it a few times, probably even held it once or twice. So any differences between standard lightsabers and Manji's newly-acquired toy aren't something she notices.]

It's not very reassuring when that's your first response, you know.

What I'm wondering is if there was a planet the Fleet visited somewhere that had this sort of technology available.

Sorry, I can't tell ya that. She had this long before I showed up here. [But he can understand the feeling of wanting something familiar so he does feel a little bad he doesn't have more information for her.] Probably best to ask someone who's been here longer.

[Probably Katie would've been the best option for answers, but well. That's not a possibility anymore. But it does bring up another question--]

How long have you been here?

Not quite a full year. I think about... seven? No, nine? [He hadn't really been keeping close track. Time didn't matter so much to him and the lack of a steady day/night cycle was still messing with him.] A few months.

[She'd understand the difficulties of keeping time in space, knowing that well from home. It's why she prefers time on planet rather than in space.]

Longer than I have this time, at any rate. It's difficult to keep track of here.

It is. I've never been in a place before here where the sun doesn't come up. Or sometimes multiple suns show up. It's... strange. [There's probably a better word for it, but he can't think of it.]

If it's something you've never experienced before, it would be difficult to get used to.

[multiple suns, planets with too long days, all of that is nothing new to Leia based on what she's experienced back home.]

But extended stays in space are difficult on anyone.

[She'll just quietly lean against one of the columns in the garden while he plays around trying to figure out how to use the weapon. When did she materialize there? Who knows. It's not as if he was difficult to track down.]

[Manji plays with the weapon a bit longer, jumping when he gets it to work. The first time he played with this he cut himself and it hurt really bad. One of the worst pains of his life. It's shortly after that is when he notices he's not alone.

Ah, crap. It's the one person who might have a legitimate claim to this weapon.] What do you want?

[It's almost a treat to have at least one person to mess around with.]

She made it hard to like her, but for some reason some people did. Thought they outta know is all. That's all it is. [It's not that a part of him had started to grow a little fond of her or anything.]

And if I was hoping to keep something of hers for a reward I would have done it the first moment she left. Hell, if all I really wanted was something she had I would have just taken it and not said anything at all. [He has a feeling she's trying to allude to the light saber that he's hidden away in his kimono so he tries to steer the conversation away.] Just no one else had done it yet so I did.
