An invitation was sent out via the network to all of the Fleet, inviting them to come together for a night of feasting, dancing, and games.

Kirk has managed to procure an event space for what he has dubbed Fleetsgiving. It sports a warm, interior space, decorated with tables, including two longer ones for food and drink. Along the far wall is a fireplace, crackling away for warmth, chairs set around and a table for fireplace games. The entire room glows with lights set in draped garlands, candles, and dim lights, warm and inviting and offering intimacy for those who wish to find it. Kirk would take credit for the decor, but no, it was the product of the owners of the event space. Probably just as well, to be honest.

An open space at the center is open for dancing at one's leisure, music drifting through the air - loud enough for dancers to sway to a beat, but not loud enough to make conversation impossible. But, who knows, maybe towards the latter half of the evening when everyone has drunk enough, there will be a dance contest. There might also be a karaoke contest, but, really, that's up to the people.

There is some prepared food - something that looks like a kind of poultry and something like meatballs in a bright orange sauce. Kirk can't vouch for what sort of animals they came from, but he can vouch for them being delicious. Bread, jam spreads, butter, local nuts and crackers. For desert there are what look like tiny tarts, and cookies dusted in a sweet pink powder. But while there is food provided, there is plenty of room for others to bring their favorites from home, or even their favorites from being here in the Fleet.

Nothing was spared for drinks either. Local wines are set out in their bottles, ready to pour, fizzy drinks in cans and punch bowls, harder options for those who wished them further down, and water and juice for those less inclined to imbibe. While there isn't much room for additions, they are welcome.

By the fire are a number of games laid out for choice - cards, some board games, and even a chess set, though it is a touch odd. Three boards, at varying heights, on a curved stand. The way the seats are arranged make it comfortable for many to play at once, or for only a few to play and many to gather by the fire and watch or idly chatter.

Come one, come all, and have a good time!

I don't know. Figured I could ask the god of mischief if it was bullshit or not.

[ loki is cornered. curiousity tends to trump all over impulses. ]

[ Hook, line, and sinker. It will be a good chance to spend a little more time with Loki, at least. He's a cool guy that Carl wants to know more. ]

[ He looks surprised, but definitely pleased. ]

[ so much for partying. to be fair, loki just wanted to get off his ship for a bit. his feet crunch over the ice and loki grimaces once more. he truly hated these places. dark and cold and far too similar to jotunheim for loki to shake off the recollections. he waits, watching the wind slowly drag across the ice. the tree was in the caverns, or so locals say.

when carl arrives, loki turns to him. ]

Are you sufficiently dressed?

[ loki is wearing a simple tunic. despite its long sleeves, it's not meant to ward off the cold. but loki seems completely unaffected. ]

[ The planet was definitely colder than he was used to, but thankfully being at other cold planets before this one afforded him the opportunity to actually get a winter wardrobe. He's definitely more bundled up than Loki is, with a hoodie under his coat, a scarf, and a hat. Carl feels a little like a walking marshmallow, but he'd rather not get frostbite. ]

I hope so. You ready?

[ it's a little amusing to see from loki's point of view. ]

I am. I believe the tree is just beyond, in that cave.

[ Tiny human has to stay warm, you weird god. ]

That close? I thought it was a lot further than that. Have you heard much about it?

[ He's definitely interested in what Loki thinks of most things. ]

Not much. Merely hearsay and rumour.

[ he imagines the experience will be quite different. loki trudges along the snowy path, but his footfalls are so light they barely make a dent. ]

It will expect some token.

[ Meanwhile Carl crunches through the snow alerting everything around them because damn, snow is loud. ]

Yeah, same. I've heard a lot of people say that you have to tell something to someone else, but there are other versions.

[ the cave yawns before them. loki conjures a small globe of light to follow them on their way. ]

There is an old legend on Midgard. That Odin went to the well of knowledge and traded his eye for wisdom. Such is the way of all stories. Nothing comes for free.

Why did he trade his eye, of all things? I get not wanting to trade an arm or a leg because he's big into battle, but if it was for wisdom, what else could it have been?

I could not tell you. It is, after all, a story and not the real reason Odin lost an eye.

[ odin had done that fighting a war against loki's father. ]

But it works as a foundation. Whatever is given is never free.

Oh. Well, I guess there doesn't have to be much fact in a legend, just a bit of it.

[ Nothing in this world is free. Whether it's giving up something physical, or giving up principles, there's always a consequence. ]

Wonder if it's worth it.

What would you want that you'd give an eye for?

..Keep my family safe.

[ loki blinks. ]

Is . . . that all?

..Yeah. I'd give up what I had to.

[ Hell, he almost got his arm hacked off by his own dad to keep everyone else safe. Things were a little crazy. ]

[ loki isn't sure what to make of that. ]

Do you think your family would appreciate such a gesture?

I hope so, but I know my dad would blame himself. Michonne probably would, too. Judith is probably too young to even remember, I think.

[ Everyone else has their own way to cope, but they've all lost so much, what's one more thing? ]
