[Sora is an islander, and because of that he's not really equipped to deal with snow. He seems to have found a couple of jackets and a beanie that makes his hair stick out in odd ends and is tolerating it for now. Despite the cold, he seems pretty excited by being in this world, buzzing with a kind of pleasant energy.]


I found out we can go hunting here! Who wants to go with me to hunt a big animal? Oh, maybe a bear?! If they even have bears here.

Are bears a thing here?

I mean it, though! It would be a ton of fun, living off the land, seeking out a nice big haul for the people here, selling it and making everyone happy! I just....

Uh... I might need a bit of help making sure I don't freeze to death? So who wants to go??

Oh yeah of course! I've been all kinds of forms, I wouldn't hold it against someone if they didn't want to be human for a bit.

That's a relief. I find it much easier to hunt as a wolf rather than as a human.

Where were you planning to start from?

It's been a long time since I had four legs, but I know how much faster you can run with them, so I get it.

Meet you right outside of town? What kind of wolf should I look for?

[sandywolf]

Well, I am rather small and sandy-colored, with a white throat and black along my spine.

[So not only is the boy not scared, it seems he has some experience with changing forms. Interesting.]

You are not a werewolf yourself, are you?

Oh, no. But I know a place that has a lot of werewolves!

I have changed my body a few times to fit into different worlds while I travel. One time, I was a lion so I could visit my friend Simba. He was also a lion.

[sandywolf]

You are not a werewolf, but you can change shapes?

... Are you a skin-stealer?

[It's kind of rude of him to ask that way, but he also isn't sure the kid is familiar with the term anyway.]

Uh... no? [Man that sounds gross, doesn't it? 'Skin-stealer.']

I can't change at will and I don't take the look from someone else. It's a spell. Magic. It helps us blend in so the people in the world don't freak out. Back home, we're really concerned about world order.

It's actually really weird that people here are so open about being from other worlds.

[sandywolf]

Ah. I see.

[He doesn't really, because even though he comes from a place where vampires, werewolves and ghosts are real, magic.... isn't, somehow.]

Maybe I should have explained better. We call 'skin-stealers' some subspecies of humans. They are metanatural, and they can absorb a supernatural being's power and appearance for a little while by touching them. Usually, this is limited in time and space, so the powers go back to their original owners after a while. It is rather rare in our world, and there are only a few recorded examples of them in human history.

That is why I was surprised.

Oh... Okay. [He says in a tone that shows he doesn't exactly get it, but he knows that it doesn't sound like what he does.]

For me, my friend Donald - he's a court wizard - casts a spell and when we land we look like people who fit into the world.

[sandywolf]

That sounds lik a good tactic if you are.... well, travelling from world to world.

In any case, I will ask our communications officer to beam me down and meet you down there in about half an hour if that is alright?

That sounds great! I'll see you then!

[sandywolf]

[True to his word, about thirty minutes later, a sandy-colored wolf - although you might be excused for thinking he's a fox given how small he is - is trotting in the snow towards the rendez-vous point.

He hasn't met the young man yet, so he will have to rely on visuals instead of smell to locate him, which is always a bit harder as a wolf.]

[Sora sees the wolf and tilts his head at him.]

Is that... you?

[sandywolf]

[The wolf... nods. Sorry, Sora, he's not a Disney wolf, he can't talk in this form.

He sniffs around a little, to make sure he can identify the smell again, and turns around the boy once or twice, then sits down.]

Is it rude to pet you? Because I kinda want to do that but if it's rude I won't.

[sandywolf]

[This time, Lyall shakes his head. It can be rude if you do it without asking and you're not pack, but you're being polite, so it's fine.

Lyall's fur is much coarser than what one might expect, thick and bristling, but he remains unmoving and non threatening... not that Sora seems to be scared at all, really.]

[Sora seems pleased more than anything. He chuckles gently.]

Man, now I wish I did have my magic back because having four legs with you would have been really cool.

But, for now, let's go! We can start this hunting trip.

[Lyall shakes himself and starts trotting off in the snow, stopping every once in a while to sniff the air and ground.

They are looking to a bear, right? This way, this way.]

[Sora easily follows after the wolf, as if it isn't weird at all to hang out with a werewolf. He seems pretty excited, though still manages to be focused on the task too.]

[sandywolf]

[Lyall has an extremely keen nose, even for a wolf, and he is able to pick scents rather easily and from far away.

At some point, he suddenly stops, ears raised, tail up, then starts trotting off to the side instead of following the paths they were on. He might be a werewolf, but a bear is a big animal. Better to ambush than attack straight on, right?]

[Sora usually is an attack straight on kind of person, but this is the first time hunting something that is not a monster, so he takes the lead from the wolf here, crouching down to limit the sound of his steps.]

[sandywolf]

[Lyall walks a wide circle around where he can smell the bigger animal is, and then stops behind some bushes.

Right there, in that clearing. It hasn't smelled them yet because they're against the wind.]
