Who: Sypha Belnades & You - (subthread for treff and alucard)
Broadcast: Yes!
Action: Caprine
When: 11/28, Afternoon
[Because the Atroma are one for drama and excitement, the camera sits on the communal dining table in the kitchen, somehow positioned perfectly to catch the culmination of what appears to be a drawn out, well fought battle between two parties.
Sypha Belnades vs. The Toaster Oven.
By now it's anyone's battle. The Speaker is crouched a few feet away from the counter and holding a baking sheet up as a shield, peering over top to monitor the menacing appliance shaking and sparking all over the counter. Once, there seems to be an opening. Sypha chances a reach to try something, but it counters! Sparks hit her hand, and she has enough.
Dropping the sheet with a loud clang, small flares form above her fingers before she whips one at the beast, which subsequently stops sparking and all but explodes instead. She manages to duck out of the way of a metallic piece of toaster, eyeing as it hits the wall behind her. It's then she catches sight of the communicator. A startled look crosses her features, and she hesitantly makes her way over.]
I don't suppose that was missed, was it? [...] Probably not.
[Well, now what? Sypha sighs and her shoulders slump.]
If anyone would be willing to explain these machines, it would be appreciated.

Bare feet pad inside as he look up (he's very short) at her with an amused look.]
I see that the toaster was the victor this round.
no subject
I would have to disagree. [It's likely said with more conviction than needed, but... here they are.]
no subject
May I show you how to use it?
no subject
I'm not even certain of its purpose.
[It's pretty dead, though. No more toast for them.]
no subject
[He gently touches the thing.]
Would you like to come with me to get a new one for us? I could explain it further as we walk.
no subject
Thank you, but I feel it's best I hold off for now. [She pauses, clarifying.]
Instead, would you mind guiding me through meal preparation? I'd prefer not to hinder my crewmates anymore if I attempt it myself.
no subject
[He gently waves for her to come closer and starts to walk her through what each machine in the kitchen does. It's purpose and how to use it.]
Video
Have an elf half between laughing his ass off and clapping in appreciation for a few minutes of entertainment.]
Bra-fucking-vo! That was amazing. Do we get a repeat performance on other ships now?
Video
Performing magic in the midst of a kitchen isn't my idea of fun.
Video
[Also it's hella entertaining when it isn't you exploding stuff everywhere. Maybe one day she'll get the honor of laughing at someone else.]
Maybe you just didn't user the right spell. Not blowing it up would have been a good start.
Video
It was meant to defend myself. [Against a toaster oven. Shh.] What sort of things are you doing in your daily life?
[Taako should be able to tell she's shifted into genuine curiosity now. Talk magic to her~]
Video
[Just blow up apparently. What did she do to get it tossing Sparks like that anyway?]
As for the magics? I'm a transmutation wizard and a chef. The food here is honest to the gods some of the worst atrocities I've ever seen. Plus sometimes you just need a little magic in your life, yanno?
Video
[It's a matter of fact at this point. ... and that's not important. Her eyes do light up at his explanation.]
That's wonderful. Is your craft limited to food or is it simply your specialty?
Video
[He just ran into someone else awhile back that was entirely bereft of knowledge about pancakes, so he can't be certain what people do and don't know about food now.]
And my craft isn't limited to anything except what spells I know and what I got available at my fingertips. Being a wizard is handy like that and being a chef jut means I had-- have more than one way to put it to use.
excuse u he must defend his party member!!!!
[ Okay so it sounds innocent enough but then so many insults directed at speakers do out of context, don't they? Calling Sypha mean names is his job and his job alone!!! ]
Just because she's going around breaking shit all the time-
childe calm thyself!!!!
Why would I -- You-- You are both just endless entertainment for me, my dude. I said bu-be-lah not blueberry. It's like saying "my dude, my guy, my gal" that sorta thing. No need to get your hackles all in a twist over a name when she's exploding shit everywhere. You're not concerned with that?
video;
Pretty sure instructions won't do you much good with that one until it's fixed, sorry!
video;
Exhaling, she recovers a little.]
I was not-- am not familiar with this device. I was attempting to inspect it when it began flinging sparks at me.
no subject
[Which would also be incredibly funny, albeit unhelpful.]
Do you know any mending spells?
no subject
I would need to know how it works before attempting one.
no subject
I'm no toaster engineer, but it isn't too complicated. Did you do anything with it before it started zapping at you? You know, specifically.
no subject
Well, there's no reason to not answer. Looking around, Sypha crouches down and picks up a metal butter knife with her thumb and forefinger.]
I was inspecting it with this.
no subject
Oh my gods… that's bad luck. Or good luck, I guess, since you managed not to fry yourself. Don't do that one!
[Well, at least they solved the mystery of how the toaster broke.]
no subject
Explain what happened. [...] Please.
no subject
Well, I'm not a toaster scientist or anything, but I know that there are bitty parts in there that can take easy damage if you poke 'em too much. If you do that while they're still plugged in, it can shock you or start a pretty good fire.
Good rule of thumb with those things: food goes in, hand stays out.
action;
I don't think anyone is dying for toast, so don't worry about it. Are you all right?
action;
She looks a little sheepish and nods.]
I'm fine, thank you. And I, ah, apologize for this. Where I'm from, we have nothing this complex.
no subject
You don't have to apologize, that happens more often than you think it would. We have a lot of people out of their element here.
no subject
All of this is a lot. Most of it is only understandable through... [The thing. Sypha reaches and touches the back of her head lightly.] I'm sure you're aware.
no subject
[...] Most of it. Anyway, my apologies, I'm being rude - my name is Baku, I'm the Caprine's captain. Welcome to the ship . . . a little belated, it seems.
Video~
[Have a slightly impressed fourteen year old. He didn't use toasters often, but he knew what they were at least.]
The one you just defeated is supposed to burn your bread.
sob
Why would you want to burn bread?
[But thank you for admitting she defeated it.]
Re: sob
It goes good with butter and a ton of jelly?
[Because when he did make toast, it burned. And the only way to stomach it was to slather it with something else.]
video
I could explain it for you, my lady, but only if you could explain...well, the fire. It's quite lovely.
video
I'm a scholar, magic included. It's fairly self explanatory where I'm from. Does your world not possess such things?
[Please distract her from her shame.]
no subject
No, we don't. Magic isn't something I've ever seen aside from in this place. It's not something common to my world.
[ video ]
I'm sure there is a book or manual you could peruse.
[ video ]
There is a disappointing lack of reading material on this ship, Alucard. It's almost criminal.
no subject
[ he could be sadder, but he tries. ]
I believe one of the larger ships may have what you need.
video!
Nice counterattack, for what it's worth.
video!
[At this point, she just has to roll with it, doesn't she?]
no subject
I'd never seen one of those before I got here, either. Hell, I'd never seen most of the stuff here before... but you get used to it, at least. Or, I mean, you could throw magic at it all and see what happens. Sounds fair. [ beat. ] And fun.
