Hello from the Heron

[There's a new face on the Heron and she's decided that she wants to say hi to the Heron as well as to the entire Fleet! And, being the intelligent young lady that she is, she figures out Shin-Ah's communication devices to get a video broadcast going! Which means now everyone is treated to a screen full of her face.

She looks thrilled and actually starts waving at the screen before saying hello.]

P-kyuuuuuu! P-kyuuu!

[She's happy to meet you all!

It's at this time Shin-Ah (that strange mask of his sure is still on his face) notices and suddenly he can be seen on the screen reaching for her.]

Ah...Ao...

[She lets out another noise before running up his arm to go and sit on top of his shoulder, gently bapping his cheek as if to show everyone this is her person. Shin-Ah hands her a little nut before reaching over to end the recording.

So everyone on the Heron? You're sure to see this cute little squirrel around all the time now. Because she's Shin-Ah's friend and she goes almost everywhere he does. But she also loves to make friends and cuddle with other people too! Which means that she may end up in a room you're in before Shin-Ah can realize and follow after her.]

[There's confusion on his face that says he's not sure what she means.]

[Was there something else he should have been noticing? He's not sure yet.]

Ah... just a tree, huh.

[That's what it looked like to her, too, but she can't help asking. There's definitely a lot about this planet that's... weird.]

[Oh...she means more than that. He gets it now!]

It's like ice that glows. Like a tree became living ice.

[A pause and then...]

It's pretty. Yona would like it.

It is pretty, yeah. Who's Yona?

Yona...she saved me from the dark and cold. Touched me when everyone else was afraid of me.

A friend from home?

Mm. [There's a pause and then...] She isn't here. None of the others are.

[necromanswers]

Yeah, most people aren't. It sucks, but we push through it somehow.

[They all feel it to varying degrees; some are more lucky than others, but everyone must be missing someone. She gestures towards the screen.]

You've got your new little buddy with you now, at least, right? And everybody you've met here. So you're not alone.

[Thanks Lup. He appreciates those words and he nods.]

We're not alone.

[He gently pets Ao who chirps for him.]

Do you want to meet Ao? Outside the box.

[He means in person. He's still learning to wrap his head around all this technology.]

Sure thing. How's she with other animals? I don't want to accidentally start a tussle.

Ao likes to make friends.

[Yeah she'll be totally fine Lup.]

Sounds good to me. Where you at, kiddo?

[He's not used to things being his. So it hasn't dawned on him (even after this much time) that this is his room.]

Rad, that's easy. Be there in a jiffy!

[And sure enough in a few minutes there's Lup knocking on his door, a mongoose perched on her shoulder.]

[Shin-Ah looks up from where he is and sees that it's Lup at the door. Going to it, he opens it up and steps aside to let her in.

To see Ao is on the bed sitting on a pile of food that she is just devouring like she's never seen food before in her entire life. Well, food is a good way to distract her in his experience.]

This is Ao.

[Lup waves, approaching the bed and crouching down beside it, stretching her arm out so the mongoose can crawl over to look at the squirrel.]

Sup, Ao? Meet Ditto.

[twosidedsword]

[Immediately the squirrel bounds over with food in her mouth. Which she pops out and presents to the mongoose. How else do you make friends obviously?]

Ditto...

[He's just memorizing the name.]

[necromanswers]

[The mongoose looks down at the food, then at Lup questioningly. When she nods, only then does it accept the food. Th...anks...?]

Aww, buddy, that's nice but not really necessary. Familiars don't need to eat.

[Shin-Ah and Ao look at her in equal bafflement.]

Don't eat?

[He doesn't understand how something doesn't need to eat!]

[necromanswers]

Yeah. They're made of arcane energy, which means they're fueled by it, too- not food or water. They can eat, I think, but it's just a waste of resources, and they don't seem too fond of it, so I don't bother.

[Very politely the mongoose offers it back to Ao.]

[They both look SO CONFUSED. He doesn't know the difference between arcane energy and energy. So he just...nods???

Ao takes the food back.

Then shoves the entire thing into her mouth causing her cheeks to puff up to enormous sizes.]

[necromanswers]

[She giggles, giving the mongoose a little pat and straightening up, arms stretching over her head.]

So, got something from the tree, huh? What'd you do for it? There's a bunch of different theories going around.

[twosidedsword]

I...spoke to it.

[He isn't even really sure what he said that the tree liked so much either.]

It seemed like it wanted to hear me.

[necromanswers]

...Just talking, huh?

[She gives her chin a thoughtful tap. Sounds a little easy, but it's not as if the tree made itself easy to find, either. So maybe that's the challenge.]

Guess I'll try that.
