002 In Which Vampires are Silly

[What was Lord Akeldama to do with himself when he didn't have the life he normally lived at home? No drones, no going out to the see the latest show at the theater. None of it. So he had headed to the library. True, he typically only read what appeared in the gossip rags now-a-days, but that didn't mean he was incapable of a good book.

Well... that's if he could find a good book...

Curiosity had compelled him to look at one of the books on Earth history, but he clearly hadn't gotten very far, sitting there, drumming his nails against the table as he stared at one section]

Planet side - shopping!
[At the first possible opportunity, Lord Akeldama was shopping! He was sadly lacking in clothes and he wanted so much to be able to burn those horrid jumpsuits that had been given to him. They were a travesty against all things fashion after all.

So he could easily be found in the formal section of a clothing store browsing different options that fit his taste... in as many colors as he could possibly afford. He didn't like not having funds to just do whatever he wanted.

He had also found a fabric store while he was there, browsing quietly. Not like he could do anything with it after all. An unfortunate side effect of metamorphosis, no more creativity.

That was until he had happened to find a blue paisley fabric. It was exactly his style!]

This would make the most perfect waistcoat! A shame though...

[Of course here is Lord Akeldama and he has to make this a post. Why? Because he's showing off in a way. So he'd seen all of this about "ugly Christmas sweaters" which why would someone do that to themselves. But he had found something else and he was playing this off as if it is completely normal.

So Lord Akeldama is dressed in dark brown trousers, a sage green jacket, a rose gold cravat, and this vest as if it were a waistcoat. Nothing odd to see here, just a vampire in an ugly Christmas vest...]

This truly is a remarkable place. It has been so long since I've had the chance to visit a city such as this.

So what have been your favorite things to do here? I would like to know what all I have missed thus far.

[Vash looks up towards the helpful voice and notes how nicely dressed this guy is. Must be an employee then.]

Yes, well, you see I was thinking of asking my gi-- [Can he use the word girlfriend here? Was Kitty his girlfriend? It's such a complicated word for being so simple. She's not here-here so that might be okay to say. Then again once something is said it's hard to take back.] --rl-- my co-captain out for dinner and then some dancing. I guess I'm just having trouble finding something that fits, but also isn't constricting?

[What happens if a saloon like brawl randomly starts up!? Most of these outfits didn't look like they allowed for maximum movement for fighting in!] Do you have a suggestion on where I should start?

[If only he knew he was actually part of the fleet. To be thought participating in trade...

There's a sly smile as Vash starts to say girl, but quickly changes it to co-captain. He knows what you wanted to say~]

That is very exciting, captain, darling. Formal wear does tend to fit close. One does not want to look like they are wearing a tent after all and it always good to show off your figure, both for gents and ladies. But it does not need to be so that one can't move.

Is there a reason you are concerned about it being constricting?

[Please don't tell him you are considering brawling in formal wear... or maybe do. It would be funny]

Oh, well, you know. [Vash smiles as he scratches at his cheek with his index finger.] Dancing requires a lot of movement, right? No point in dancing if you can't really move. Ha hahaha!

It does, but I do not think that would mess with the fall of your jacket.

[He clearly doesn't know modern dance styles]

Of course if you don't wear evening jackets often, I'd say go with one that could be worn on multiple occasions. Black is so very drab, but it does go with anything with a little coordination and can be brightened up with a waistcoat and nice handkerchief or cravat. Being able to wear it more than once will take away some of the shock of the price.

Of which, it is like they say; you do get what you pay for. If you want a jacket that will last, its going to cost a bit more, but it will pay for itself.

But what if we do other activities besides dancing? Like, I dunno, acrobatic in nature or something like that? [Some may think Vash is badly hinting at sex instead of fighting, but Vash doesn't catch on to how what he said could be taken.] But I guess this place is pretty civilized I'm sure it will be fine even without a full range of movement.

[He outright wrinkles his nose at the color suggestion. Black was so dull, but this wasn't about him now was it?] I suppose black is fine. Means she can wear whatever she wants to.

What's a cravat?

And you would do something acrobatic in nature still in evening wear? Does this frequently happen to you?

[Lord Akeldama agrees with the assessment of the color] I do agree it is not exciting, but it is versatile. Also depends on if you which to coordinate with what your partner will wear without knowing. You could do go with a more subtle color... like a malachite or a burgundy number. Brighter colors will be more likely to clash with a partner. If however you are just wearing it for yourself...

[He gestures at his own outfit, with a bright green jacket and a mauve waistcoat, newly acquired items.

At the question, he reaches up to the bunch of fabric tied about his neck]

This is a cravat.

Well, yeah! If there's no time or chance to change I don't see why not! And it hasn't happened as frequently as it use to! [Which he seems quite happy about.

Vash nods his head in approval of the colour choices. Although he looks confused again at the cravat.] So a fancy bandanna for the neck instead of your face.

Then that is good. Unexpected acrobatics do terribly mess up the fall of one's evening jacket.

[He's not going to ask. He's had to do something that people wouldn't expect someone in full evening attire to do... like fend off a werewolf]

A bandanna? I suppose it is the same concept, but that's really where it stops. A cravat really is leagues above a bandanna.

Yeah? Just because it's made of fancier fabric? [Can you hear the boredom in his voice?] I thought people wore those just to keep their necks from getting cold.

Different design, different fabric, all that.

[Oh he can hear the boredom and while he could go on about what makes a cravat what it is, that's not the point]

We can worry about that later. That is an accessory and one doesn't pick an accessory before the jacket.

[Well, he did on occasion, but he's a special case and knows how to accessorize]

So... dinner and maybe dancing with the possibility of acrobatics breaking out. [He's teasing really, but it tells him the mind set. Nothing too fitted. He's gravitating towards a few racks of a certain style] It take it color is more appealing?

Well, I'm hoping there won't be a need for acrobatics. [Someone hasn't caught on to how his words could be taken. Too busy wondering how Wolfwood could possibly stand wearing stuff like this all the time.]

Colour is way more appealing. I'm not going to a funeral.

[Lord Akeldama gets the distinct feeling that he means "acrobatics" in a completely innocent way even if he doesn't truly mean acrobatics. But that's not going to stop him from deliberately misinterpreting it]

No? No acrobatics? What a shame. Perhaps maybe another day.

Quite right. You are going out on the town. First, which appeals to you more? I have a hunch... something in the red color scheme?

Isn't it better to not need acrobatics while wearing a suit? I'd be less likely to rip it. [he doesn't get why it's a shame, but happy to shrug and keep moving on.

He smiles when Akeldama guesses Vash's favorite color.] You wouldn't be wrong. I do like the color red, but I'm willing to try something new. [If he knew Kitty's favorite color he'd go with that, but he doesn't. Note to self: figure out Kitty's favorite color one day.]

Well, yes, they would be far less likely to be damaged if you were to remove it first before performing... acrobatics.

[Don't mind him, just dancing around the term like its a new euphemism.

And now to ask the question...]

Do you know if there is a color the lady likes?

Uh-huh. [Vash no longer had any idea what this sales person is trying to say to him anymore. He's reached the point of smiling and nodding.]

Blue. [The answer comes quick and easy. He was an observant guy and so he didn't need to think too much about it.] She tends to mostly wear blues.

[Ah well... it's apparently going right over his head. Besides, it is time for the important part: to pick out the jacket]

Blue... Blue is a good color to go with everything. Now, let's try... you should probably take off the coat, dear, so we can see what size you need. No point in showing you options that will not fit.

[Vash probably will notice that there is a store employee lurking in their area now with the obligatory measuring tape. This person had likely been helping Lord Akeldama before so while surprised he was taking over, the customer seemed to know what he was talking about and heck he was making a sale for them. Why discourage him.

So when Vash takes off his coat, the employee will come over to help with measurements]

Ahh... What? [Vash pulls at the collar oh his jacket while chuckling nervously.] Don't I just pick from medium, large, and extra large? [He will not be taking off his coat. He didn't think about having to do that and he wasn't ready for it. He only had his body armour on underneath and it doesn't hide nearly enough of his scars.]

[Welp, that stumps Lord Akeldama. He's not used to be clothes being mass produced as they seem to be aside from the tailor having a display, let alone anything like "medium" "large" "extra large".

Luckily though, the employee knows what Vash is talking about]

What size do you normally wear, sir?

[He can point Lord Akeldama in the right direction and they can continue]

Large. The sleeves in mediums don't usually reach all they way down my arms. [A clear example as to why he should get measured. Otherwise his choice is between slightly too baggy clothes or sleeves that come up short.]

Wow, must be a slow day if I have two people helping me. What a friendly and helpful store!

[The employee gestures to one of the racks near Lord Akeldama]

These ones here, sir. [Then to Vash] We can always tailor jacket to fit better when you are more prepared.

[Vash's comment does make Lord Akeldama look up from his perusal of the correct sized jackets. To be thought participating in trade... for a peer of the realm it's unheard of! But he also likes this store; they have so many things he likes so he has to pick his battles and not offend]

My dear, I am a member of the Fleet. I happen to know a great deal about such things.

[The employee jumps in rather quickly] He is assisting us in this time of the year while you are in the system.

[Sure it hadn't been discussed, but given he was practically making the sale for them, it seemed to work and Lord Akeldama's not going to object]

OH! You were just so helpful and knew so much. I guess I just assumed-- sorry about that!

It is well, my dear. No harm. I am considered someone to model fashion trends after back home and these - [He gestured to the sea of suit jackets around him] are my forte.

You are pale so something too dark will just wash you out... Now, let's try this...

[Finally he grabs a blue jacket in the range of "sky blue" but slightly darker and a red vest. He tucks the vest into the jacket so that Vash can see how they look together]

I think this would be perfect! It has her favorite color and yours and you can change the waistcoat for different occasions. It would allow you to get the most use out of the jacket.

So it sounds like I certainly lucked out with finding you here.

[Vash smiles at being called pale. It had been awhile since someone pointed that out to him. Back home people had seemed so surprised or jealous of his skin. How it never seemed to burn in the desert sun. At least here he doesn't have to make an excuse as to why his un-aging skin acted the way it did. It was all the natural course of someone who lived in deep space.]

Oh! [Vash takes the coat into his hands to give it a closer look.] Yeah! This might work and is a bit more fun than black!

I could wear black gloves with this right? Like these black ones I'm wearing now? [Need to hide the scars on his hand too.]

[Lord Akeldama is pleased that Vash seemed happy with the selection choice, that a solution had been successfully reached. He smiles, clapping his hands together once]

Excellent! Certainly will be more exciting than black. You are not going to a funeral after all.

Gloves? Of course you could wear gloves with it. Gloves are very proper after all.

[There's also a lot of etiquette with gloves in his time, but he doubts anyone here will care about what gloves work when. Besides if he had known about the scars, that would have easily allowed for the wearing of gloves even when the time was not quite right]

You could wear those. There are more formal gloves if you wished to consider those as well.

I suppose if they're not too expensive. I do have some saved up, but I need to make sure I can afford dinner still. [But he also really wanted to get this right.]
