002 In Which Vampires are Silly

[What was Lord Akeldama to do with himself when he didn't have the life he normally lived at home? No drones, no going out to the see the latest show at the theater. None of it. So he had headed to the library. True, he typically only read what appeared in the gossip rags now-a-days, but that didn't mean he was incapable of a good book.

Well... that's if he could find a good book...

Curiosity had compelled him to look at one of the books on Earth history, but he clearly hadn't gotten very far, sitting there, drumming his nails against the table as he stared at one section]

Planet side - shopping!
[At the first possible opportunity, Lord Akeldama was shopping! He was sadly lacking in clothes and he wanted so much to be able to burn those horrid jumpsuits that had been given to him. They were a travesty against all things fashion after all.

So he could easily be found in the formal section of a clothing store browsing different options that fit his taste... in as many colors as he could possibly afford. He didn't like not having funds to just do whatever he wanted.

He had also found a fabric store while he was there, browsing quietly. Not like he could do anything with it after all. An unfortunate side effect of metamorphosis, no more creativity.

That was until he had happened to find a blue paisley fabric. It was exactly his style!]

This would make the most perfect waistcoat! A shame though...

[Of course here is Lord Akeldama and he has to make this a post. Why? Because he's showing off in a way. So he'd seen all of this about "ugly Christmas sweaters" which why would someone do that to themselves. But he had found something else and he was playing this off as if it is completely normal.

So Lord Akeldama is dressed in dark brown trousers, a sage green jacket, a rose gold cravat, and this vest as if it were a waistcoat. Nothing odd to see here, just a vampire in an ugly Christmas vest...]

This truly is a remarkable place. It has been so long since I've had the chance to visit a city such as this.

So what have been your favorite things to do here? I would like to know what all I have missed thus far.

[Keith was out looking for Christmas presents when he came across Dama in one of the stores. He immediately recognized the style of dress he was wearing. There weren't many people who used that in the Fleet... and the wolves were two of them. Keith had a feeling this guy was associated with them. He gave a small smile.

Speaking of wolves... there was a large blue one with strange markings walking with him. No lead or anything... just staying next to him like a well-trained K9.]

Hey... you're with the Fleet, right?

[Vash is not the type that usually frequents the formal section. Usually he just wears the big red jacket he currently has on at all times. A trademark certainly makes it easy to decide what to wear each day, but he was thinking of dressing up for Kitty maybe for Christmas. Take her dancing if he could find a place.

There were just so many choices that he was feeling very overwhelmed which is why he keeps bouncing from rack to rack sighing and talking out loud to himself.] Oh man. I don't know what to do. These all look the same to me. And why are they all so expensive? Are they bullet proof or something?

[Of all the people to pass by in the aisle of a craft store... it was so hard to find any store without someone from the fleet in it. At least in most cases it was easier to retain her relative anonymity, with how little she actually socialized and how others expected a different appearance from her anyway.

There is a difference; her red markings are softly glowing, and her attire is also markedly different, as she's wearing a soft sky blue cloak clasped over a long teal colored blouse and cream-colored skirt. Fairly recent acquisitions as of this planet, thanks to Taako's shopping guidance, but... Akeldama was part of her ship, there was no real hiding from him. Better to greet him normally.]

... Greetings, Lord Akeldama. I hope you are not experiencing some difficulty.

[Lord Akeldamas hearing was good so he heard the sound of the other person approaching... mixed with another sound.

When he turned to face Keith, he could see he was right. It was a canine. He eyed it for a second wearily. Vampires were predators and most animals could tell it immediately. Horses hated seating them and only cats really just didn't care]

Yes, my dear, I am. I am Lord Akeldama, the communications specialist on the First Breath. And you are?

[Keith would likely notice that Lord Akeldama was taking a few rather deliberate steps backwards. He wanted to keep distance between himself and the tiny canine. Most tended to go into fight or flight around vampires and he preferred not to be the cause of the small animal's distress]

[Lord Akeldama had noticed the other in the formal section, the jacket definitely catching his attention. It was another grabbed... and rather an unfortunate fashion choice in his opinion.

At least he was here in the formal section, looking for proper attire. But he also seemed rather distressed about it, darting between racks and talking to himself. Well, this was a perfect opportunity for a fashion conscious vampire!]

Oh, dear, is this something that I can assist with?

[He is very nicely dressed so he does seem to know what he is talking about]

[It is kind of hard to hide from Lord Akeldama, but he may choose to not acknowledge someone. And she was a fellow member of his ship so of course she was practically part of his household]

Good evening, my dear starling. You do look quite lovely tonight. Positively glowing.

[Yep, he had noticed the markings glowing]

I don't seem to be experiencing any ill-effects at all. It is both surprising and fabulous at the same time! Thank you for your concern. And how are you this evening?

[Vash looks up towards the helpful voice and notes how nicely dressed this guy is. Must be an employee then.]

Yes, well, you see I was thinking of asking my gi-- [Can he use the word girlfriend here? Was Kitty his girlfriend? It's such a complicated word for being so simple. She's not here-here so that might be okay to say. Then again once something is said it's hard to take back.] --rl-- my co-captain out for dinner and then some dancing. I guess I'm just having trouble finding something that fits, but also isn't constricting?

[What happens if a saloon like brawl randomly starts up!? Most of these outfits didn't look like they allowed for maximum movement for fighting in!] Do you have a suggestion on where I should start?

It is good that you are able to wander freely here.

[Complements are still something she is unused to, but she returns his comments with an appropriate slight bow of her head.]

The atmosphere of this planet is... pleasing. I am certain that any time that we are parted from it would seem all too soon.

[Lord? Lord indeed... Keith blinked at the response and then nodded.]

I'm Keith... pilot on the Huntress.

[He frowned a bit at the retreat.]

[Kosmo was definitely wary, but the pup was pretty solidly glued to Keith's side. He didn't growl, though, just had the hair on his neck and shoulders raised up. In order to fit into Atroma's size restrictions, Kosmo had been de-aged physically, but it seemed that he retained most of Keith's training from their two years together, so he was already surprisingly well-behaved for a young wolf.]

[If only he knew he was actually part of the fleet. To be thought participating in trade...

There's a sly smile as Vash starts to say girl, but quickly changes it to co-captain. He knows what you wanted to say~]

That is very exciting, captain, darling. Formal wear does tend to fit close. One does not want to look like they are wearing a tent after all and it always good to show off your figure, both for gents and ladies. But it does not need to be so that one can't move.

Is there a reason you are concerned about it being constricting?

[Please don't tell him you are considering brawling in formal wear... or maybe do. It would be funny]

Yes, it will be a shame, cooped up inside again. But I suppose it can't be helped. We will just have to enjoy it as long as possible.

Are you out shopping this evening?

It will be a shame to lose the benefits it provides.

[She was no stranger to being cooped up for a while, but other systems had not been as pleasing. She could admit that much, if nothing else.]

... that is the purpose for which I have come here. This store has many varied components. It is... interesting.

[He's standing greater than hand shaking distance apart so they can't do that]

I am well, darling. Perfectly. It is only for concern for your little friend there. I am a vampire. Most animals cannot stand to be near us. Cats really are the only creatures that don't care enough to tolerate us. I'm sure there are some that don't mind, but I do not wish to push it.

I do assure you though, he is in no actual danger from me, but they tend to follow instinct over polite conversation.

[It was surprisingly well behaved he would agree, staying by its master's side]

Oh, well, you know. [Vash smiles as he scratches at his cheek with his index finger.] Dancing requires a lot of movement, right? No point in dancing if you can't really move. Ha hahaha!

Benefits? In what way?

[He found something to ask about. He will poke at it]

They do have that, don't they? They have such amazing fashion sense here. It is not quite up to snuff, but I will make it work.

[Which means that for most people, it would be perfectly formal, but for Lord Akeldama... minor things about them]

Do you require an escort for the evening?

It does, but I do not think that would mess with the fall of your jacket.

[He clearly doesn't know modern dance styles]

Of course if you don't wear evening jackets often, I'd say go with one that could be worn on multiple occasions. Black is so very drab, but it does go with anything with a little coordination and can be brightened up with a waistcoat and nice handkerchief or cravat. Being able to wear it more than once will take away some of the shock of the price.

Of which, it is like they say; you do get what you pay for. If you want a jacket that will last, its going to cost a bit more, but it will pay for itself.

But what if we do other activities besides dancing? Like, I dunno, acrobatic in nature or something like that? [Some may think Vash is badly hinting at sex instead of fighting, but Vash doesn't catch on to how what he said could be taken.] But I guess this place is pretty civilized I'm sure it will be fine even without a full range of movement.

[He outright wrinkles his nose at the color suggestion. Black was so dull, but this wasn't about him now was it?] I suppose black is fine. Means she can wear whatever she wants to.

What's a cravat?

And you would do something acrobatic in nature still in evening wear? Does this frequently happen to you?

[Lord Akeldama agrees with the assessment of the color] I do agree it is not exciting, but it is versatile. Also depends on if you which to coordinate with what your partner will wear without knowing. You could do go with a more subtle color... like a malachite or a burgundy number. Brighter colors will be more likely to clash with a partner. If however you are just wearing it for yourself...

[He gestures at his own outfit, with a bright green jacket and a mauve waistcoat, newly acquired items.

At the question, he reaches up to the bunch of fabric tied about his neck]

This is a cravat.

Well, yeah! If there's no time or chance to change I don't see why not! And it hasn't happened as frequently as it use to! [Which he seems quite happy about.

Vash nods his head in approval of the colour choices. Although he looks confused again at the cravat.] So a fancy bandanna for the neck instead of your face.

The planet is ... rejuvenating in a way that most systems have not been, for those who have some affinity for magical energy.

[In spite of her misgivings about it initially, she would still be unhappy to leave. It felt almost too good, dangerously so, if she could but tap into it all further.

As for the fashion, there were no brand names all over everything, and... well. She really did let Taako go to town with getting her new wardrobe items. She had bought far more than she had ever intended to, at that.]

They have much to offer here. If I am not distracting you from what you came here for, I suppose I would not turn away your company.

[...Shopping was difficult enough and she had much to consider. It might be easier to have someone at her side while she made the attempt to determine things while looking at the available supplies. To an extent.]

_{[ Kirk had a certain fondness for the library, even more so now with its caretaker gone. He was contemplating taking over it to some capacity, though the library really didn't need much maintenance in and of itself except for adding books and organizing from time to time.

He had come by to check on things and find himself a new volume to peruse when he spotted Akeldama, drumming his nails against the single table available. It wasn't as if the place was busy or large, after all. A single table did it. He came up behind him, peering over his shoulder. ]}

Then that is good. Unexpected acrobatics do terribly mess up the fall of one's evening jacket.

[He's not going to ask. He's had to do something that people wouldn't expect someone in full evening attire to do... like fend off a werewolf]

A bandanna? I suppose it is the same concept, but that's really where it stops. A cravat really is leagues above a bandanna.

Does it? I would not have been aware of this if you hadn't said it. Fascinating.

[He waves his hand]

[Lord Akeldama heard him coming, but was still busy looking at the section of the book when he came over. He glanced back before giving him a smile]

Just a tome on Ancient Greece, my dear. Enlightening, but not terribly exciting things.

[Well, Kirk might disagree since the section the book is open to, that Lord Akeldama seems to be ignoring now, is on Alexander the Great]

Well, it’s debatable if you can count Alexander the Great as Greek. I think he would have something to say on that. He was Macedonian.

His conquest of what was more or less the known world is unheard of. No one else in history has ever accomplished something on that scale before - in Earth History anyways, and he broke practically every known military rule. He even kicked off an entire new era of artwork though that’s not my area of expertise. Few people have left quite as large a mark on history as him.
