002 In Which Vampires are Silly

[What was Lord Akeldama to do with himself when he didn't have the life he normally lived at home? No drones, no going out to the see the latest show at the theater. None of it. So he had headed to the library. True, he typically only read what appeared in the gossip rags now-a-days, but that didn't mean he was incapable of a good book.

Well... that's if he could find a good book...

Curiosity had compelled him to look at one of the books on Earth history, but he clearly hadn't gotten very far, sitting there, drumming his nails against the table as he stared at one section]

Planet side - shopping!
[At the first possible opportunity, Lord Akeldama was shopping! He was sadly lacking in clothes and he wanted so much to be able to burn those horrid jumpsuits that had been given to him. They were a travesty against all things fashion after all.

So he could easily be found in the formal section of a clothing store browsing different options that fit his taste... in as many colors as he could possibly afford. He didn't like not having funds to just do whatever he wanted.

He had also found a fabric store while he was there, browsing quietly. Not like he could do anything with it after all. An unfortunate side effect of metamorphosis, no more creativity.

That was until he had happened to find a blue paisley fabric. It was exactly his style!]

This would make the most perfect waistcoat! A shame though...

[Of course here is Lord Akeldama and he has to make this a post. Why? Because he's showing off in a way. So he'd seen all of this about "ugly Christmas sweaters" which why would someone do that to themselves. But he had found something else and he was playing this off as if it is completely normal.

So Lord Akeldama is dressed in dark brown trousers, a sage green jacket, a rose gold cravat, and this vest as if it were a waistcoat. Nothing odd to see here, just a vampire in an ugly Christmas vest...]

This truly is a remarkable place. It has been so long since I've had the chance to visit a city such as this.

So what have been your favorite things to do here? I would like to know what all I have missed thus far.

[Lord Akeldama heard him coming, but was still busy looking at the section of the book when he came over. He glanced back before giving him a smile]

Just a tome on Ancient Greece, my dear. Enlightening, but not terribly exciting things.

[Well, Kirk might disagree since the section the book is open to, that Lord Akeldama seems to be ignoring now, is on Alexander the Great]

Well, it’s debatable if you can count Alexander the Great as Greek. I think he would have something to say on that. He was Macedonian.

_{[ Kirk smiled brightly, obviously a fan of this subject. ]}

His conquest of what was more or less the known world is unheard of. No one else in history has ever accomplished something on that scale before - in Earth History anyways, and he broke practically every known military rule. He even kicked off an entire new era of artwork though that’s not my area of expertise. Few people have left quite as large a mark on history as him.

[Lord Akeldama raised an eyebrow at the immediate response regarding Alexander the Great, including the correction that he was Macedonian. Oh... this was going to be fun...]

I suppose he did do quite a few things for the modern world. We can call you knowledgeable then... about his life?

_{[ Kirk looked to Akeldama and he chuckled, like a boy caught playing a silly game with his childhood toys. He shrugged and looked back down to the pages. ]}

He’s one of my historical heroes, you could say. I don’t agree with everything he did, but there’s something admiral about a man who knows what he wants, goes for it, and breaks all the rules along the way. He could have played by rules and expectations, been written down on a page or two. But he didn’t. He has tomes and movies and plays and art.

It takes a special kind of courage to change the world like that.

You clearly have studied quite a bit about him. He was a remarkable figure, simultaneously conquering, but leaving culture in tact. There was a man who understood the value of other culture even if he wanted to control it. I suspect it is not the same in yours and daylight folk don't know it in ours, but he started the God Breaker Plague in Egypt, an area where no one can be immortal.

[Now he could probably stop this right that... but why would he do the less fun option? Lord Akeldama looks down at the book again before rising to his feet, seemingly done with the book.

Then he added something else...]

You should hear him talk about it. Now shall we go check out the shuttle?

_{[ Having experiences whiplash before, Kirk could honestly say that words had never had such effect on him. Today was a day for new sensations it seemed. He whirled as Dama made to leave, snatching the book like it might somewhere provide leverage. ]}

[Lord Akeldama just smiled before waving a hand dismissively]

Once or twice, darling. Immortals naturally. You can have so many interesting meetings that way.

_{[ Stars burst in Kirk's eyes - thankfully not from hitting his head or being hit this time. Bones would have been pleased. He hurried after Akeldama, the book tucked beneath his arm now. ]}

Wait, wait. You're saying Alexander the Great is an immortal? Or were you born even before him and met him the way?

[Lord Akeldama stopped as Kirk chased after him, still holding that book]

My dear, I surely don't look so old.

Alexander the Great is immortal.

_{[ He rolled his eyes at the joke. He knew Akeldama knew he did not look that old, and he was not about to stroke the vampire's ego just then. He had more important fish to fry. Like Alexander the Great being immortal. ]}

So in your world he's still alive?

_{[ It was mind-boggling. Fascinating. Thrilling. Alexander the Great. Alive... ]}

He is. Very much so. Or at least the last time I saw him. It's really quite remarkable what being immortal allows.

_{[ Kirk very nearly lost his shit just then. But he was a professional, even when he was being a fan boy. ]}

Wait, when was the last time you say him? A year ago? Five? Ten? What did you even talk about? What does he do if he's not a king or conquering?

It hasn't been that long, darling. Within the last decade. Time means so little to us; after a while it becomes difficult to keep track.

Political things. A bit of this and that. What else would a former king possibly do with his time? Conquering is a little hard with a tether. Can only go so far from one's abode after all. Unless one wants to conquer the fashion world.

So, what, Alexander the Great conquers practically the entire known world and then... disappears and resurfaces as a fashion designer?

Not as a fashion designer, darling. Vampires no longer possess the creativity for such things. A fashion icon. But that’s more of a hobby. Politics mostly.
