002 In Which Vampires are Silly
Who: Akeldama and you!
Broadcast: Yes
Action: Planet side and Iskaulit
When: throughout December
Iskaulit library - actually more in late Novembershh
[What was Lord Akeldama to do with himself when he didn't have the life he normally lived at home? No drones, no going out to the see the latest show at the theater. None of it. So he had headed to the library. True, he typically only read what appeared in the gossip rags now-a-days, but that didn't mean he was incapable of a good book.
Well... that's if he could find a good book...
Curiosity had compelled him to look at one of the books on Earth history, but he clearly hadn't gotten very far, sitting there, drumming his nails against the table as he stared at one section]
Planet side - shopping!
[At the first possible opportunity, Lord Akeldama was shopping! He was sadly lacking in clothes and he wanted so much to be able to burn those horrid jumpsuits that had been given to him. They were a travesty against all things fashion after all.
So he could easily be found in the formal section of a clothing store browsing different options that fit his taste... in as many colors as he could possibly afford. He didn't like not having funds to just do whatever he wanted.
He had also found a fabric store while he was there, browsing quietly. Not like he could do anything with it after all. An unfortunate side effect of metamorphosis, no more creativity.
That was until he had happened to find a blue paisley fabric. It was exactly his style!]
This would make the most perfect waistcoat! A shame though...
Open Broadcast
[Of course here is Lord Akeldama and he has to make this a post. Why? Because he's showing off in a way. So he'd seen all of this about "ugly Christmas sweaters" which why would someone do that to themselves. But he had found something else and he was playing this off as if it is completely normal.
So Lord Akeldama is dressed in dark brown trousers, a sage green jacket, a rose gold cravat, and this vest as if it were a waistcoat. Nothing odd to see here, just a vampire in an ugly Christmas vest...]
This truly is a remarkable place. It has been so long since I've had the chance to visit a city such as this.
So what have been your favorite things to do here? I would like to know what all I have missed thus far.

I suppose any army, but the better the armor, the harder it is. A poorly armored army, it wouldn't really matter the arrow. With better armor, you would have to use much larger arrow heads or one that is more like firing a spear.
[Does he sound like he actually knows something about this?]
no subject
Heh. So, the strength and mobility tradeoff goes both ways, then? At least until you develop better materials for the armor or the bows.
no subject
It is. Armor reduces their mobility, but increases the resources needed to take them down. Oh we have developed better things now, but bows and arrows are classic weapons.

So what is your world like? Sounds fascinating what little I've heard.

Let's see. We're taking back our territories on the other planets again now ever since the Red War ended, but humans still pretty much only live in the City or in isolated villages. Most of the Awoken [and he gestures to himself] live in the Reef, which is in the asteroid belt, but a lot of us live on Earth, too - same City, for the most part. We've got jumpships that can cover the distance in a couple minutes, but they really only carry one person. We haven't had ships as big as the Fleet ships for--since the Collapse, really, but there used to be colony ships that could hold ten thousand crew and four times as many sleepers, headed to new lives out in the stars. But I've only ever seen their wrecks.
no subject
Amazing. So you are used to space then? What does it mean to be Awoken?
no subject
[He smiles and ducks his head a little bit. Honestly, that had been one of his questions ever since his Ghost had brought him to life.]
I am, yeah. Aside from the coloring, my people are pretty much like Humans, except that we don't really age beyond a certain point and we can kind of--sense things differently. Boundaries. Light and Darkness. Sometimes we feel pulled to a place or repelled by it.
We used to be Humans - or at least by ancestors did. And they were running from Earth because of the Darkness, but then their ships ran into something out there that made them change forever. So they built a new home for themselves from the wreckage and formed a society led by our Queen. Some of them broke away later and returned to Earth, but the Reef is still home in a lot of ways.
We're not Humans, but we're part of Humanity.

Fascinating, darling. Simply fascinating!
Your comparison sounds similar to how we supernatural are. We used to be humans and we do sense things differently.
no subject
Yeah. It's kind of hard to explain, you know? At least for someone who's not into all that mystical handwavey stuff.
no subject
Of course. I understand perfectly. There is only so much you can explain to others without them having some knowledge.
no subject
That sounds really inconvenient for flying in spacecraft. Do you at least have some, I don't know, shielded armor or something?
no subject
But there was no ill-effect for being awake during what are considered daylight on the ship, though I really was just not the thing.
no subject
[And he nods.] Right, because it's not actual daylight.
no subject
Precisely. We are far enough from them that the light isn't causing any problems.

Now... here we are.

But hey, if it gets too weird? Feel free to drop me a line. Space is a second home to me.
