The morning of the final day of the year - called Last Eve - brings with it a soft, gentle chorus of bells. No matter what town or city you've found yourself in, the tradition is the same: a simple scale plays every hour throughout the day - a melodic, slow countdown to all the festivities to come tonight. People - especially children! - run through the streets ringing hand-held bells of their own, all in the name of good luck and best wishes for the upcoming year. Don't want to wait for the night to start the party? Don't worry! There's plenty to do all day long, too!


A ringing melody in the wind

You thought the festivals throughout the month were extravagant? Well, they're nothing compared to the parades today! Marching bands, performers, and dance crews show off routines they've been preparing for months, candy flies through the air for all of the parade-goers to catch and keep... The floats are elaborate and grand, with humongous shapes in bright colors. A lot of heart, soul, and expert craftsmanship went into these, and it shows. Some parades have set themes, others are just a representation of the towns that give them and what they've put together to share with everyone... but all of them are full of love, joy, and good luck wishes for the upcoming year. Maybe you're part of the parade - riding on a float, tossing out candy, singing or playing an instrument... or maybe you're just there to watch! No matter which way, it's going to be a good time.

The waters may be too cold to swim in, but that's why boats exist! Once the sun goes down, the natural glow of the water is even more breathtaking set against the black, starry skies -- and local tradition is to spend Last Eve out on the water in some way! From rowboats, paddle boats, and sailboats to motorized party boats with loudly blasting music and flashing lights, or huge luxury liners with all the fancy trimmings of fine dining and entertainment -- no matter what kind of boat you want, you're going to have a great time ringing in the new year on the water. Get your party boat on! Or, spend a romantic evening with your loved one on a crewed private charter! Or, row out on your own and meet up with other rowers. Bring snacks~ and a life vest - safety first!

The best part, though, isn't Last Eve... it's First Dawn. Once it gets closer and closer to midnight, and the bells begin to chime louder, and faster, and more jubilant... that's when the real light show begins.


Light up the skies!

Almost every inch of the night sky is covered in bright lights and brilliant hues as fireworks soar through the black. The breathtaking display reflects in the glowing waters, which seem to mimic all the colors back like a visual echo. And with the backdrop of the bells' song, this is how the new year comes to Libuscha IV.

Niiiice. The dragon fights in the arena were awesome.

...Wait. That wasn't me, was it?

[She swears she would have remembered fighting such a memorable guy as her own damn captain, but she does sometimes get lost in the chaos of a fight... especially when she's polymorphed.]

You're one of those weird mages who can turn into shit, huh? [He chuckles.] Nice choice, though. I'd go with dragon, too.

[He shakes his head.]

Nah. We fought two. Dorian took over one when it died and used it to fight the other one. [And he's grinning broadly at that. He's proud of his guy, okay?] It was badass.

[necromanswers]

"Weird mages", that's rude!

[She laughs, though, very clearly not offended.]

That sounds pretty damn badass, yeah. I met Dorian, actually! He found me in a tavern, so we talked shop a bit.

[Dorian would certainly know more about 'magic shop' than the Bull, who is typically just weirded out by it.]

Yeah? I kinda figured you and Dorian would hit it off.

[necromanswers]

You're right on the mark, there. Though I'll say it's pretty rare that I meet a wizard or mage of some kind that I won't dig an arcane convo with. As long as they're not trying to kill me, anyway.

Pretty good philosophy, but I get that about you. I'm a people person.

[He smiles. He means he's a spy, Lup. It's cool, though.]

[necromanswers]

Uh-oh. I'm not an easy read, am I? Better think about changing that!

[What a horrible fate, to be predictable.]

[theirondragon]

[He laughs.] Only to me, Sparky. [He leans in conspratorially.] Used to be a spy.

[necromanswers]

Oooh, how stealthy. Emphasis on the "used to", I hope, since you're telling me.

[theirondragon]

Or you knowing doesn't change anything.

[He shrugs.]

Who knows, right?

[necromanswers]

Hah! Not me, I guess. Well, alright then, keep your secrets. No skin off my neck.

[theirondragon]

[He chuckles.]

Nah, I'm not a spy anymore, at least not for the Qunari. The cut me loose. Things they taught me though? That's harder to kick.

[necromanswers]

Yeah, that's fair. I've got myself a few instincts trained into me that I can't shake, so not like I can point fingers. Plus being a people person is useful, yeah? Life skills and all that.

[theirondragon]

Yeah, and figuring out what people are up to.

[He smirks.]

And being a 'big, dumb ox-man' makes it easy for people to think I'm just that. That works well for me.

[necromanswers]

Pfft, I bet! Orcs back home can get the same kind of rep, which is a damn shame. But a good lesson in underestimating folks, assuming you survive when they outsmart ya and try to knock your head right off.

[theirondragon]

[He laughs, deep and hearty.] I know, right? Still, it makes spying on folks easier.

[necromanswers]

Sounds like a fun gig, either way.

[She thinks for a moment, and then-]

So, if I asked you to say something about me that I didn't tell you first, you'd have a spy answer?

[theirondragon]

[He crosses his arms, by all appearances up for the challenge.]

Is that what you're asking me?

[necromanswers]

Well, I was just fuckin' with you, but now I'm actually curious... so sure, why not?

[theirondragon]

The question would be, are you expecting a real spy answer, or the cryptic bullshit fiction makes people expect from spies?

[necromanswers]

I'm not so sure I'd be able to tell one from the other. Can't say I've had much experience with spies, fictional or otherwise.

[theirondragon]

See, real spies don't sound like spies. If we did, everybody'd know, right? How useful is that?

Not especially, so yeah, I'd hope they would be good at the whole lying thing. In that case, I'll let you surprise me.
