002; Some sightseeing and such

Who: Aaron + You!
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Iskaulit/Planetside (Bloodsport common room for that broadcast if you wanna)
When: Throughout December (until they leave)

Audio; Broadcast Fleetwide

[Aaron is making his transmission from the common room on the Bloodsport, so if you're around, feel free to stumble upon him.]

Good morning, everyone. At...least I think it's morning. Anyway, I've been all over this ship, a few others, and the Iskaulit and I've found a photography studio, more than one restaurant, a library, two bars, several different times of relaxation and reflection spaces just to name a few, but no place that seems set up to get any firearms practice in. I think it might be important, seeing as a lot of our ship provide crew members with sidearms. Does...anyone know how we go about getting something like that established? Do we just...pick a space and take it?

Iskaulit - Library | OTA

[In his quest to find a place to train with the weapon provided him on the Bloodsport, Aaron finds himself thumbing through the library. If being stuck in outer space has taught him anything, it's that they aren't really pressed for time. Dorian's comments on the selection of the library have him intrigued at any rate, so he takes his times perusing the shelves.

Dorian was right, he thought as he did so. There was a lot of Earth literature here. Some of it was crap (was that really a copy of the 5 Love Languages?) but he stopped at a collection of classic literature and pulled a weathered book from the shelf. Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray brought a lot of memories back, and thoughts of someone he was starting to fear he'd never see again. He couldn't just take it, of course, though he wanted to. Libraries did require their books to be returned eventually, after all.
]

...where do they get these books...?

[If he had that answer, maybe he could find his own copy.]

Planetside - In Town | shopping | ota

[It's difficult to visit this winter planet and not realize it's some sort of holiday season. With all the feasts, parades, and gifts, Aaron is first reminded of the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons back on Earth, before the world ended, and that's just fine with him. What he was most interested in, of course, were the shops. Since the world ended, the only way to have new things was to scavenge them. The idea of using what credits he'd been provided to buy things was novel at the very least. His first priority was picking up a new pack, and with it strapped to his back, he's simply wandering the shopping district, looking at windows and waiting for a shop to catch his eye.

And then it does. The camera shop across the way is his destination as he makes his way across the icy road.
]

I wonder what kinds of cameras aliens use, even.

[It's murmured out loud, yes, but he's not going to mind if someone wants to join him.]

Planetside - In Town | sightseeing | ota

[Equipped with a new camera and enough digital storage to film the rest of the planet, Aaron, newly excited to explore and document all the unique sights of this place, goes around town, snapping pictures of unique storefronts, trees with particularly intriguing ice formations, and just generally...looking like a tourist. He keeps eyeing that castle in the distance, too. If anyone stops long enough to look over to him, he smiles amicably.]

You want to check out the castle?

[ There's something unnerving about the outdoor terrain inside a ship... but on balance Daryl's glad it's there. He's mostly gotten used to the Tourist, after all these months, but when they're between planets it's nice not to be... stuck.

He's not nearly so well-prepared, when he shows up-- no pack, though he's got a knife on his belt just because when does he not. It'll be nice. For one thing, they're bound to have good weather. ]

You ready?

[ He tries not to think about home if he can help it. There's nothing they can do to help, from here.

That doesn't mean he succeeds.

Grunting assent, he heads for the mountainside. Which is a weird thing to do without going outside, but it's outer space, what do you expect? Nothing is not weird. ]

Ain't a big mountain, [ he murmurs, as they get to the last corridor turn before it comes into view. But it's something. ]

[Tim has been going through the library's selection for the last couple of nights. The lack of a catalogue of what is here and limited organisation is kinda driving him crazy. So deep in thought, he doesn't really register that the voice speaking out loud isn't just in his head. He answers it out loud anyway.]

I've been wondering that as well. I'm so tempted to read everything here just to see if there are noticeable differences between editions in different universes.

[Tim jumps and looks at Aaron, not having expected a response.]

I-um-yes? I mean it's possible, I don't really know how likely it would be yet but considering how many differences we can encounter between the universes, it seems logical that even if there are similar books that they might not be the same word for word.

I'm sorry, how long have you been here?

There is no one to speak to about purchasing a section of the ship for your own use. Or if there is, they have yet to make themselves known to the rest of us.

Keep the rest of us updated, if you go through with it. I prefer to crush my enemies up close, but a firing range would allow us to ensure our crews are capable of handling themselves in a firefight.

[If that sounds like she's going to not give hers a choice about going out for regular firearms practice the moment it's possible, that's because that is exactly what she plans on doing.]

Though I would advise you to select a part of the Iskaulit that is not in close proximity to the outer hull. I hope I do not need to explain why.
tough_love: (Displeased)

[personal profile] tough_love 2019-01-03 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
That has nothing to do with it- defeating my enemies from afar is unsatisfying. I enjoy a more personal approach.

[You know, get close enough to see all those expressions of terror, desperation, pain and the like. And feel the occasional bone shatter! It's the little things that make it special, really, and fighting from range just doesn't allow much room for it.]

I am not concerned with a single shot blasting a hole in the hull. Nothing they have given us is anywhere near that capable. Not even the rifles those of us with a security augment are given. My concern is what might happen after repeated strikes.

[From the Bloodsport kitchen, Prompto can hear Aaron's voice both through his comm and in the nearby room. He opts to reply though the communicator, because it's fun. Like texting your bud, even though you're sitting on the same couch.]

A shooting range would be awesome and all, but is that safe on a ship in space? I just get in as much practice as I can when we're on planets.
this_loser: (01 smile look down)

[personal profile] this_loser 2019-01-07 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know a whole lot about space, or spaceships. But from I've seen in movies, poking a hole in them is a bad idea.

[They probably touched on some stuff in school, but yaaaawn.]

That said, it'd be cool to be able to practice while we're drifting.

Lance has been trying to get me to do some target practice, but yeah... same problem. We don't really have a space for it unless we're orbiting a planet. A shooting range might not be a bad idea if we can find the right space for it.

I'm sure the Iskaulit will have something, though. You don't have to buy it... we just kind of claimed the old office area for ourselves. If it's not being used by someone else, I say go for it.

You want help looking?

Re: Audio

[personal profile] tempredmental 2019-01-11 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I know our ships are pretty durable, and they repair themselves pretty quickly. But, yeah... we should probably be careful with the Iskaulit. I'm sure we can find something towards the middle of the ship... and maybe find a way with someone who's got an engineering augment to shore up the walls enough to make them resistant to firearms.
