[Aaron is making his transmission from the common room on the Bloodsport, so if you're around, feel free to stumble upon him.]

Good morning, everyone. At...least I think it's morning. Anyway, I've been all over this ship, a few others, and the Iskaulit and I've found a photography studio, more than one restaurant, a library, two bars, several different times of relaxation and reflection spaces just to name a few, but no place that seems set up to get any firearms practice in. I think it might be important, seeing as a lot of our ship provide crew members with sidearms. Does...anyone know how we go about getting something like that established? Do we just...pick a space and take it?


Iskaulit - Library | OTA

[In his quest to find a place to train with the weapon provided him on the Bloodsport, Aaron finds himself thumbing through the library. If being stuck in outer space has taught him anything, it's that they aren't really pressed for time. Dorian's comments on the selection of the library have him intrigued at any rate, so he takes his times perusing the shelves.

Dorian was right, he thought as he did so. There was a lot of Earth literature here. Some of it was crap (was that really a copy of the 5 Love Languages?) but he stopped at a collection of classic literature and pulled a weathered book from the shelf. Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray brought a lot of memories back, and thoughts of someone he was starting to fear he'd never see again. He couldn't just take it, of course, though he wanted to. Libraries did require their books to be returned eventually, after all.]

...where do they get these books...?

[If he had that answer, maybe he could find his own copy.]


Planetside - In Town | shopping | ota

[It's difficult to visit this winter planet and not realize it's some sort of holiday season. With all the feasts, parades, and gifts, Aaron is first reminded of the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons back on Earth, before the world ended, and that's just fine with him. What he was most interested in, of course, were the shops. Since the world ended, the only way to have new things was to scavenge them. The idea of using what credits he'd been provided to buy things was novel at the very least. His first priority was picking up a new pack, and with it strapped to his back, he's simply wandering the shopping district, looking at windows and waiting for a shop to catch his eye.

And then it does. The camera shop across the way is his destination as he makes his way across the icy road.]

I wonder what kinds of cameras aliens use, even.

[It's murmured out loud, yes, but he's not going to mind if someone wants to join him.]


Planetside - In Town | sightseeing | ota

[Equipped with a new camera and enough digital storage to film the rest of the planet, Aaron, newly excited to explore and document all the unique sights of this place, goes around town, snapping pictures of unique storefronts, trees with particularly intriguing ice formations, and just generally...looking like a tourist. He keeps eyeing that castle in the distance, too. If anyone stops long enough to look over to him, he smiles amicably.]

[Aaron is anything if not prepared, and after their...incident in which he lost his pack, he's going to keep a much better grip on it. He nods at Daryl's question, a smile on his face.

It'd be nice to get away from his thoughts of home, at least for a little while.]

Yeah. Lead the way.

[ He tries not to think about home if he can help it. There's nothing they can do to help, from here.

That doesn't mean he succeeds.

Grunting assent, he heads for the mountainside. Which is a weird thing to do without going outside, but it's outer space, what do you expect? Nothing is not weird. ]

Ain't a big mountain, [ he murmurs, as they get to the last corridor turn before it comes into view. But it's something. ]

[Aaron worries about things he has no power over when he is home. Here, not only is home so far away, but he's also here without his rock, someone he hasn't been without in years. It's...definitely sending his mind for a spin.

So, instead, he's going to focus on putting one foot in front of the other and follow along behind Daryl dutifully.]

It's a mountain on a spaceship, Daryl. In space. Who cares if it's big or not?

[ He huffs. ]

Just sayin'.

[ It's big enough, really, because for all his bravado it is a mountain on a spaceship. The truth is he relaxes noticeably-- at least for anyone who knows Daryl well enough to notice-- when the room opens up, and the rock face and scattered trees come into view. ]

[customplates]

[That's something Aaron had immediately identified in Daryl when they'd first met, and something he empathized with. He was much more comfortable charting the uncharted and discovering the unknown, alone or with only a few choice people, than he was trying to get along with everyone. He could hold a conversation if he needed to, work with others and be non-threatening and inviting, but it tired out the introvert in him. This? Without the need for extended conversation? This was why he and Daryl worked so well together.]

...whoa.

[Nothing had prepared him for the shift in scenery, though, not even knowing it was there.]

...this...is pretty incredible.

[ It's interesting, how so many of the people Daryl gets along with best are people he absolutely wouldn't have gotten along with before the world ended. He could have, except none of them would've given each other the time of day.

People who can be quiet are a blessing. Not even because he minds them talking-- Aaron or Carol or Rick, the people he cares about-- but because they don't have to, they can just be. ]

Kinda don't wanna know how they did it.

[customplates]

It is...somehow more confusing than suddenly being in outer space, isn't it?

[Aaron certainly wouldn't have avoided Daryl, though he would have thoroughly expected to get grief from the other man just for existing. Aaron was always pleased to note Daryl didn't harbor any of the prejudices, one would expect. He was a good man, one of the best he'd ever met, and he trusted him with his life.]

And that's...disconcerting, in itself.

[ Possibly Daryl would've been more put off by that, before the world ended. Not because he really gives a shit what people do, but because it would've gotten him too much slack from Merle, not being loudly bigoted on principle. He might've played along to keep the peace.

He was kind of an asshole too, he knows. The apocalypse has improved him. ]

Could be worse. Ain't had the gravity go out on you yet.

[customplates]

[It wasn't until that very moment it even occurred to Aaron that the gravity was artificial. Of course it was, there were enough science fiction movies before the end to drive that point home, but it actually crossing his mind...?]

That's happened?

[worn_wings]

Yeah. Kinda.

[ Only to Daryl, but it still counts. ]

Sucked.

[customplates]

[He laughs.]

Wait, how does the gravity kind of stop working?

[worn_wings]

Kept workin', just quit workin' on me.

[ He shrugs, like that's a normal thing to have happen. Even though it's definitely not remotely a normal thing to have happen. ]

Shit like that happens sometimes, I guess.

[customplates]

[Thanks, Daryl. From the look on Aaron's face, upper calculus makes more sense than that. Oh, wait. It does.]

That just...happens sometimes?

The things they stick in your head get screwed up sometimes.

[A...college thing, Daryl. Don't worry about it.]

...and can alter gravity? But...how? Gravity...should be connected to generators on the ships...shouldn't it?

[Nothing like a reality-altering device in your head to make you question everything you know.]

[ oh, he isn't. and never has. ]

[ Actually this is great, because the experience freaked him the fuck out, but talking about it he's got to be casual because he's him, so it makes it a lot less hideous in retrospect.

Daryl Dixon: great at coping, in any universe. ]

[It may be great for Daryl, but Aaron is beyond confused.]

...but that shouldn't be possible, Daryl.

Gettin' kidnapped by aliens, neither.

[ He shrugs. Hell, the dead were supposed to stay dead, but look where that got them. ]

Okay, that's...a fair point, but...gravity still works the same way. Heat, cold. It's...it shouldn't be that variable.

[worn_wings]

All I know is I floated around like a goddamn balloon til it wore off.

[Okay, but...he can't help up laugh at the mental picture...or Daryl's candor. One was hilarious, and the other just refreshing. He'd always felt at ease around Daryl.]

That sounds awful.

[ It definitely was awful. ]

I woulda been a shitty astronaut, I guess.

In that respect, I think we all would, Daryl.

[A beat.] It got better, though? I mean...obviously, but how long did it last?

[worn_wings]

Couple days. Usually how it goes, I guess.

[ macho downplaying: the best way to deal with space trauma? ]

Didn't actually puke so I guess I did alright.

[customplates]

[Aaron chuckled, shaking his head. Daryl always had a candor anyone could appreciate if they actually talked to him.]
