[Victor is thrilled with the gift James gave him. Just as he's sure James loved all the camera equipment Victor got for him. Knowing very little about cameras, he just got a lot of different models and film types, thinking James can experiment with the medium. As for the other Jim, Victor had sent over some drawings he made. It does help that he knows what the crew of the Enterprise looks like, so he could do lots of drawings of them for Jim.

Since this is a new year and all, Victor is going to kick it off doing something he normally wouldn't do: perform in public. James got him a violin-type instrument that he's been eager to play. Why not do it in front of an audience? So he plays a song, letting a few beats of silence pass after he's done before speaking]

About a year ago, I arrived in a place called Riverview. I was bitter and lonely, and back then only wanted to focus on my work. But over the course of the year I built up friendships and met people I grew to love. I feel so lucky that one of those people is here with me now, and agreed to marry me.

I'm interested in seeing what this year will bring me.

[ Jim walks in about halfway through the music, lingering in a more or less hidden spot while waiting for Victor to finish. There's a small, warm smile as he finishes the broadcast with a few words, and finally, once that's wrapped up, he walks up to him, wrapping his arms around Victor's neck from behind, leaning in to kiss him just behind his ear. ]

I feel so lucky, too. [ He nuzzles against Victor's neck, pulling back so Victor can turn around to face him. ] And glad to see you like your gift.

[He turns, offering James a glowing smile. He does smile a lot more than when they met, but looks like these are reserved only for his handsome fiance]

I did. How about you? Did I buy enough camera equipment?

[He probably bought too much, but going overboard is something they're both guilty of doing]

[ He cups Victor's face in his hands, slotting himself perfectly between Victor's legs and leaning down to kiss his lips. ]

Enough? Are you kidding? It's gonna take me a while to even go through it all. But I did start on a few pictures, already.

I wanted to give you options. [He kisses back, squeezing James gently] Hm, well, the nice thing about a winter planet is I'll be able to appreciate the color scheme.

[ Jim laughs, shaking his head. ] Amazing. I mean, you are right.

[ He tugs on Victor's collar with a soft smile. ] It's nearly our birthdays. You know what I was thinking? We could do something special to celebrate it.

Of course I am. [What is humility]

Oh. I think I'd like that. It's been so long since I celebrated, whatever you want to do will be special enough.

[ Jim snorts, placing a hand gently on Victor's face. Incorrigible. ]

Yeah, I thought you might like that. We're probably not staying here for long, definitely not long enough for our wedding, but I thought... we could still have a little romantic getaway. Jim told me about these little cabins in the mountains, more isolated. They're really cozy. What do you think?

It's a beautiful place, but I don't want to rush this wedding. We'll get to another planet eventually and have the perfect day.

Of course he would manage to find a place like that. I think... [He brushes through James's hair] I think a romantic cabin in the mountains sounds perfect.

Yes. I thought exactly the same thing.

[ Jim wouldn't mind marrying Victor while on the ship, but given the choice he'd rather find a nice spot on a pretty planet. Hopefully the next one they visit will be just as lovely as this one, though maybe a little warmer. ]

Yeah? Perfect. We can have a few days to ourselves. And John, of course. It'll be good for us to enjoy the fresh air too, before we leave the planet.

Of course. I can teach you how to build a snowman. [He grins teasingly] And we can do other fun things in the snow, too.

[ Jim snorts. Sticking to that pun, huh. ]

Mm, like skiing... or just riding a sleigh together, that'd be exciting too. Oh, and there's that angel thing people do with their arms.

Snow angels? You... never did that before? Don't they have snow in Iowa?

[He honestly doesn't know]

[ Jim shrugs a little. ]

Not really. It used to some centuries ago, I think, but it's scarcer now, and definitely not where the farm was. We only ever got that kind of snowfall that just melts when it touches the floor. Bits of sleet, that kind of stuff. And I always hated the cold, so I never felt like playing in the snow.

Hm. We'll have to find something you'll enjoy doing in the cold.

I like to sit in front of a warm fire, hot cocoa or tea in hand. Or just curling up underneath a pile of thick blankets in bed. Staying in, rather than going out.

[ He lifts a finger in the air. ] Ah! And hot springs. That's definitely a new favorite for me.

[His eyebrow twitches and he fights off an amused look] I'm not sure those really count, but they'll have to do, I guess.

[ Jim laughs, shrugging a bit. ]

Well, the first memory that comes to mind when I think about snow is getting chased by a giant insect in the middle of a blizzard. But I'm sure you can show me other fun stuff we can do in the cold.

I would say that doesn't sound too bad, but given where I grew up, I'm not sure I'm the best to judge.

How about sledding? I think you'd like that.

A giant bug trying to eat me doesn't sound too bad? Wow. I'd think that's pretty awful.

[ He beams at the suggestion. ] Oh, yeah! Sledding! Let's try that while we're here. That should be fun.

I live in a land of horrors, my love. You get used to that kind of thing.

I'll get one for us, then, and we'll try it while we're at the cabin.

You lived in a land of horrors, [ He corrects, tugging on Victor's collar. ] Now you live with me.

And that sounds lovely. Now, are you busy right now? Thought I could take you out on a date. We could go for lunch somewhere.

That I do. The land of adventure.

[He shrugs, moving to put away his instrument] Like I'd say "no" to a date.

[ Jim waits for Victor to put away the violin, then promptly takes the doctor's hand, leaning in for a quick kiss. ]

Brilliant. Come on, then.

[ Walking alongside Victor, he leads the way out, already thinking of a few nice places where he can take Victor for their impromptu lunch date. ]

[He's more than happy to follow along wherever James wants to take him. As he said, living with James is an adventure, and even impromptu lunch dates count toward that]
