[Victor is thrilled with the gift James gave him. Just as he's sure James loved all the camera equipment Victor got for him. Knowing very little about cameras, he just got a lot of different models and film types, thinking James can experiment with the medium. As for the other Jim, Victor had sent over some drawings he made. It does help that he knows what the crew of the Enterprise looks like, so he could do lots of drawings of them for Jim.

Since this is a new year and all, Victor is going to kick it off doing something he normally wouldn't do: perform in public. James got him a violin-type instrument that he's been eager to play. Why not do it in front of an audience? So he plays a song, letting a few beats of silence pass after he's done before speaking]

About a year ago, I arrived in a place called Riverview. I was bitter and lonely, and back then only wanted to focus on my work. But over the course of the year I built up friendships and met people I grew to love. I feel so lucky that one of those people is here with me now, and agreed to marry me.

I'm interested in seeing what this year will bring me.

It's good that you have him, then. People are important.

I can't remember the last time I heard it, but the melody is familiar at least. They used to play it in movies and on the broadcasts of the ball dropping in New York.

I heard about that ball drop. Never had a chance to watch it, though. We don't really do much for New Year's in Storybrooke.

I only ever saw it on television when I could stay up that late. Dunno if that really counts.

I've never heard of Storybrooke. What's it like?

[jolting]

It's a small town in Maine. We're surrounded by the forest and we're right next to the sea. I know almost everyone living there-- there are some newer residents that have shown up lately.

It's a nice place. Just not big on certain holidays.

That sounds cool. I like small communities. I've never been to Maine.

[jolting]

I like it well enough. Though... I haven't been anywhere else in the country, so my perception may be skewed.

No? Not even for a vacation or anything?

[jolting]

No. You know how some of these worlds don't let you leave? Storybrooke is like that, too.

Oh, wow. Well, it's not the same as exploring your own country, but you'll be able to see lots of different planets, at least?

[jolting]

Exactly. That's why I'm excited to be here.

The Fleet is really good for the most part. We rarely stop at places that are dangerous.

[jolting]

That'll be a nice change of pace.

Yeah? I know a few people on the Heron. The Iron Bull is a good guy if you haven't run into him yet. Reaaally hard to miss.

I met him my first day. And you're right, he's hard to miss.

He's a really good guy to know, and he'll take care of you because you're his crew.

I wasn't too concerned, but still good to know.

Honestly, I don't know many in the fleet who won't look out for anyone else here. I know you've been here a while, but do you have any questions or anything?

I am curious on who's watching this program. And if the ratings have changed any since James and I arrived.

[You know, because of all the sex and romance between them]

See, we don't really know. Apparently there are viewers, because they can send in mail and stuff, but if you ask around when we visit planets, people are confused or don't know what we're talking about. Or they'll say something like it used to be a show a long time ago.

Depends. Have you gotten more credits lately than you used to?
