[Accidental video post]

[There's a bunch of noise and static before people see a cat paw clawing at the screen and a curious meow coming from it. Eventually the screen becomes less blurry as they see an up close view of an orange tabby kitten trying to chew the top corner of the data pad.

There's some noise in the background of someone taking apart a heavy metal piece. That quickly stops and there's some clanking as tools are placed down and a wary sigh follows.]

Millicent! What did I say about leaving that alone?! You have your own toys to play with.

[The feed is abruptly turned off as a gloved hand picks up the orange tabby and pockets the device.]

[Have Mantis laughing very gently at your expense.]

Nice cat. And a very interesting name. 'Millicent' says a lot about who you are as a person.

It shows you're a practical person who doesn't really have much room in him for playing around. Your idea of a good name for her is a perfectly normal human name with no trace of trying to be playful or making a pun.

[He waves his hand vaguely and desk objects begin to float around the field of vision of the feed. A ceramic mug and several pens go by in lazy circles.]

On top of that, I think Millicent is a name that comes from a family of words based around the idea of working. A cat who works as hard as a mill. Or perhaps you're the one who works hard and the name is ultimately ironic.

Nothing wrong with treating a pet with respect enough to give them a proper name. I would probably do the same if someone entrusted me with the well-being of an animal.

[Mantis' shoulders start shaking at the sight of Millicent batting at the screen. He sets the items aside and wiggles his fingers directly at the camera.]

You're a good cat. I should find catnip for her. Every cat is a little different, but they generally fall between hyperactive and rolling over and laying in the midst of the stuff.

[Mantis wouldn't mind picking up Millicent for a bit of petting. He's not going to say it out loud, yet, but he's thinking it.]

Unlike people, cats have a well-tuned sense of when to stop. It isn't like with people where the results are addictive. They merely like the smell and sometimes the taste.

[For all his tries at control, Mantis can't help how he perks up a little where he sits hearing that.]

Perhaps not while you are working on something. You seem busy in spite of the distractions.

[Mantis lifts his head up a little and looks around.]

Where exactly is your laboratory? I try to use my telepathy sparingly given how so many here seem to be adverse to me using it on them.

Would you be opposed to me coming over now? I could probably keep Millicent off of the equipment for a little while.
