Missing Home
Who: open to all
Broadcast: no
Action: Iskaulit
When: Jan 12 or whenever...time doesn't matter
Veronica has been rather absent this holiday season. While she's made an appearance at the festivities, she hasn't really seemed all there, and has left early from most of them without talking much. For a girl whose life has changed so much so fast, even before the Fleet, one might think it would be easy for her to roll with the punches, but eventually, Veronica tires out, and she's hit that point.
She misses home. She's lonely. Sure, she has Lance here, but much of his time is dedicated to Keith and his team, and Veronica isn't about to take that away from him. He's happy. She isn't going to get in the way of that. While she's befriended people here, it just isn't the same, and she finds herself growing homesick and depressed.
She's spending a lot of time these days just sitting by the bay windows of the Iskaulit, looking out into the deep abyss of space. It's beautiful, and she really does love it, but...it's so cold and isolating. It makes her think of everything that she's lost, all the people who have died for a war that they were never even meant to be a part of... Veronica hugs her knees to her chest and just watches.

Penny for your thoughts?

Veronica rubs at her eyes and gives him a weak smile, looking up at him.]
When I imagined space, I knew, mathematically, that there was...well, emptiness. Being out here though? It's...really empty.

So you've been sitting here, for weeks now, contemplating the void of space?

[She sighs softly.]
I've always dreamed of being in space, but all of this is just... [She shakes her head slowly.] I just want to go home.

[He takes a seat on the other end of the bench, making sure not to invade on personal space]
Being homesick is understandable even if you left your home voluntarily. It's normal to miss things that are familiar and promote a feeling of safe in us.

[Her tone is sardonic, but it's clear she wants the company. Veronica watches Tim quietly, listening to him.]
I wish just knowing that made it easier. Being here is strange, because... I'm missing my family, but they don't even know I'm gone.

At least it's better than driving them mad with worry?
I know that doesn't really help either. I don't really have anything that will.
no subject
That's alright. It helps just to talk about it, I guess.
no subject
I know you don't know me but well, sometimes that helps too.

[She manages a genuine smile, and offers a hand.] I'm Veronica.

I'm Robin. It's nice to meet you, out here in space.
no subject
You have a nice name.

What do you normally do on the Fleet when you're not sitting here contemplating the vastness of space?

[She smiles sheepishly, running a hand through her hair.] Um. Good question.

Good question? You're not sure?
