[Frankly the amount of time Mirage gets on the SS Marsiva is far too short for even the beginnings of an introduction to this whole space show business. She wakes up in her bunk and immediately understands this isn't the dorms and isn't even the Macross Elysion or anything like that. Wherever she is she was plucked straight from her VF unit, flight suit and all.

So this starts right out as a recon mission in her mind. However she ended up here she's alone and has to find her own way back. She's barely stepped out of her room with a grimly serious expression, noting the people just walking through the hallways like it's no big deal she's standing out here.

And then woosh, she's ... being covered in confetti?

There's music?

Mirage is just sort of stuck in place, eyes wide and expression befuddled. And then she makes out her first disbelieving words to any gathered crew there.]

... Pudding?

[What's going on here?!]

[Alright, so things have been explained. Sort of? There's a ship and a fleet and some kind of show, that much she's gathered by now. She's been several hours roaming the SS Starduck and getting to know it's general layout, in particular where the shuttles are stored and such.

Now she's getting down to communicating across the other ships, a need to test the system being her primary excuse. She's wearing a stern, no nonsense expression here.]

I have been briefed on my current status and situation. [And now maybe just a touch angrier in tone.] I don't exactly appreciate this sort of treatment but--

[Ahem. Stay focused, Mirage. Treat this like a report or something similar, anger won't do much good.
She sighs out loud.]

My name is Mirage Jenius. Currently I am stationed aboard the SS Starduck. If there are others here from the Xaos company or the Macross Elysion, please respond.

[... How do you end one of these broadcasts? Mirage's stern expression briefly falters, a moment of confusion peeking through. Observant eyes will catch the tips of her ears reddening just slightly before she rushes through the rest.]

[She squints her eyes at him as if that will somehow enlighten her on what he's babbling about.]

[He snickers at her bewilderment and gives her a dramatic sigh, complete with hand to his forehead.]

[Somehow he reminds her of Hayate during those early training days. The annoying, button-pushing Hayate.]

I know plenty about pop culture, thank you. That doesn't mean your pop culture is the same as mine.

No, it means that mine is obviously superior.

Otherwise you would have known you just stepped into a musical and now it's your turn to sing.

[She has no desire to argue about who's pop culture is the superior pop culture here but when he mentions a musical, Mirage starts. And the mention of singing just...]

[It's such a visceral reaction to a simple suggestion.]

[And like a freaking bloodhound on the trail, Taako's ears flick up at her vehement denial and he zeroes in on that.]

Oh yeah, didn't you know? It's required that you sing while you're here. I tried to give you and out right away, but now I guess you're going to have to get your own song and dance number ready.

[GAH.]

That can't be true! I wasn't informed of anything singing-related! Or dancing!

[She can't dance. What does she look like to you, an idol or something?!]

It's one of the more unpleasant surprises the Atroma keep in store for us. Or pleasant, depending on your demeanor. I got mine done right after I learned about it. People can be more forgiving if, yanno, you didn't have months and months to prep.

[Ohhh this is too easy.]

[Ah. Mirage blinks a moment, then looks studiously serious.]

I see. You were appealing to people's empathy to excuse your performance.

[It's not a bad idea really. However Mirage is far too much of a perfectionist to do any job by halves so she's already trying to sketch this out in her mind.]

Listen. I'm a wizard and a chef, not an idol or a rock star.

I can imagine. From my experience, staging and effects contribute greatly to the success of any performance.

[And timing. Timing. She's going to have to practice more if she wants to get that down.

She sighs, suddenly feeling very, very weary. She looks extremely frustrated.]

I'm not exactly an idol either but a job is a job. Thank you for the warning, I'll have to make the proper preparations.

[HE'S DYING. THIS IS GREAT.]

There's a dance studio, I think, on the Iskaulit. Yanno, if you need a space away from people to get your groove on before the big day.

Oh, and be sure to announce it. The more people who show up? The higher ratings you get.

[One of her eyebrows twitches now. The insistence on a big audience is just prodding her nerves.]

Right. Of course. Higher ratings, how could I neglect those.

[Taako can play the long game. He hopes she works on this and announces it and gets humiliated later, because that payoff would be SO worth it. But it's also tempting to tell her he's lying right now and watch her entire face go red with anger.

It's the whole point of this shitshow, so definitely don't forget. But you might wanna keep your routine on the down-low, yeah? Don't want some other newbie stealing your gig before you get a chance to perform it and go back to square one.

[Of course they would. She knows better but still, clearly if she asks someone for advice it has to be someone who's been here a while.]

If you didn't have to think of the whole shebang from scratch, wouldn't you?

Of course not. I would rather be judged on my own merits and efforts than be a thief.

[Her words are vehement. Mirage isn't nicknamed Miss Goody Twoshoes for nothing here. She doesn't believe in profiting from other's efforts without their consent, nope.]

I mean, all of dancing is borrowing from someone. Unless you wanna, I dunno, break the mold and create an entirely new genre of dance or something.

There's a difference between learning from a technique and stealing it, you know.

[He stares at her for a moment because no, no he really doesn't.]

And that difference is....?

Of course! How else do you expect learning to work? If someone demonstrates a move or technique and others learn how to do it, they can then use it as a base for their own creations and give credit to the one who developed it. Stealing would be claiming it as your own without any credit.

Most pilots know aerial stunts from watching other pilots and learning from them after all. If we expected everyone who flies to come up with their own techniques for it, that would be impossible and a waste of innovations.

[HRUMPH.]

[Mmhm that made a lot of sense actually. Taako has learned something today, so he could express his gratitude.
