[the fleet's resident, soft-spoken teen goth shows up on screen... backed by several bookcases filled with books! and maybe a couch back there. she waves, awkwardly.]

Uh, hey guys. Good news, the Bishop's library actually made it through the whole space-fight thing pretty well. The electronic tracking system is still down, but that's why people invented pencils and stuff.

[she gives the camera a funny look.] --No, actually, I'm pretty sure it's... the other way around. ... So nevermind.

[she holds up a very... charred-looking book. it had a red cover, once.]

The bad news is that "The Romantic History of the Galactiplastic Sector 9" totally bit it. So, uh. If there was a waiting list, we're gonna have to put this one on hold for a while. Alternatively, if anyone would like to play a little funeral tune, now's the time.

[she just. drops it flat on the floor. it's dead to her.]

So, um, for everyone who doesn't know... Me and a bunch of other people around here have been putting together a little library in the spare room on the Bishop... The ship's still kind of a mess from the fight, but anyone's welcome to come in and read or check out books, or whatever. We take donations and basically whatever stuff people bring us.

And we've got beanbags. And little lights that go "wowowo..." [accompanied with a little finger-wiggle and a totally straight face.] So if you're into that. This might be your jam.

[alternatively, if anyone comes to visit the library--it's a personnel room that's been outfitted with lots of bookcases, a couch, a table covered in archival materials, and several beanbags that you can drag around and sit in...

the collection is still small, but there's a little something for everybody! fiction, nonfiction, history, magic, charts, maps, comic books, whatever. Krista's around, probably putting books back on a shelf.]

[Ah!! Finally!!]

Luckily for fans of The Romantic History, I've [he coughs, speeds up just a bit] ample replacements. Would you prefer "Drizzled by Drizzt" or "The Ample Halistrae of Bucxom Thirty". That's, uh. Thirty spelled with three 'x's. [Mumbling:] At least, I think it's supposed to be thirty...

[Quickly:] They're not as bad as they sound. And I've, uh. [Goddess, why did he start off with that? He thought he was being clever!] I've a gift! Overdue, really. It's a book. A rare one, only slightly illegal. I'm fairly certain no one will be penalized for it.

[Or... any of the books he's going to give her. Since they're all... stolen....]

[...there is a very long pause in response. she just kind of. reconsiders her entire life, up until this point. her response is particularly dry.]

Okay.

...ah. And I was looking forward to finding out what became of Lady Verivens and her handmaiden's torrid love affair.

[A disappointed sigh.]

Any romantic novel contributions you would like to make to the library would be greatly appreciated by the various... connoisseurs of such literature that we have on the fleet.

[yeah Coil isn't one to be terribly chatty over the network, so he just... shows up. he wants to check out the state of the more delicate and valuable tomes in the Bishop's collection for himself, as well as drop off some of the things that he has been working on in the meantime.

so, the silent one-eyed kid just lets himself in and quietly sets himself up at the table covered in archival materials. he's got papers, inks, magnifying lenses, and the works that he has been working on transcribing.

he also has bag lunch. it and the bottle of water he brought have been set on the ground near his feet, just to make sure nothing tragic happens between them and the rare documents.]

Is that a yes?

[He's nervous. Oh, don't make him nervous. He's going to—] I've—I've others too. History books and horticulture and, oh—One on, uh. Alien anatomy. [—ramble.]

A-And the rare book. It's—It's nothing bad. I just. Heard there was a library and thought it'd be a good addition. It's a beautiful tome.

[he's gonna keep going, krista]

Yes, we will all miss... Lady... Vivi... Whatever.

[yeah, she. never read it. but a dead book is a dead book.]

It sounds like we're going to get another half-dozen books to replace it, though. You guys have... A taste, I guess.

Oh, well. That's a relief. [YOU ARE HIS ANGEL STEFFA krista is scary] I've plenty more I'd be happy to donate, particularly for the, uh. Various connoisseurs. I've [stolen] picked up quite a collection. Tell me, have you read "Hard Knights of Haremlax"? It's a series, I think. I just can't seem to find the third one.

Haremlax, that sounds familiar...

[ there's some rustling as she gets up to check the shelves ]

The third one is "Lady Pearl's Cavern", isn't it? I've been looking for the rest of that series!

[ She sounds downright tickled, Mattias. You are in good company here. ]

Good! They tend to be a good break between magic texts.

[He smiles.]

I have plenty of dour and serious things to read, I do enjoy having something amusing to look at for a bit.

[GIVE HIM HIS TRASH.]

You have it?!

[oh he sounds way too excited there. reign it in, reign it in.] I wonder if you bought the last copy. I've been looking for it since we touched down here but I just haven't been able to find it! Oh, this is wonderful! I'll lend you the others, of course. Give them to you, even. Though a trade would likely be more conducive...

[stop him, steffa, he'll keep going]

[Books, whatever, he could never keep focus long enough to get into books. Especially not something that has the word 'Galactiplastic' in it, which-- he's not even gonna try to pronounce.

But he just got here and uh, he has Questions.]

Space-fight?

[ You don't have to say the word library twice in Merrill's hearing. She's still settling herself in on her ship, having claimed engineering for herself rather than the crowded little bedroom, but she finds she already knows how to use the shuttles that she's been told take her from ship to ship. And so it is that she heads straight for the Bishop. But don't worry, she doesn't burst into the room or anything, coming in on light feet with the wariness of one who's not actually sure she's allowed here. But at least she didn't get lost?

At any rate, she'll make a beeline for the books, wondering if there'll be any she recognizes from her own extensive reading. ]

[Drly.] And the universe weeped for the sappy love story. [Sokka you are living one, you have no place to judge. ]

You want me to come have a look at your tracking system?

Hey, weird kid. I prepped this for you.

[she has seen him in here so often, and tells him to do shit so often that she just kind of walks up and starts talking to him. holds up a handwritten list (very good handwriting!) for him.]

All of the stuff we flagged as delicate, and where we're keeping it. A couple things got moved for assessment, but I don't think anyone's had time to get around to them yet.

Okay, okay, okay. Calm down, skippy.

[yeah she's just gonna cut him off before this gets worse.]

Go ahead and bring them over. We'll take a look at them.

[...she laughs a little.]

I guess that's what counts. And we've still got a digital copy, if you really wanted to know how it ends.

[questions? she totally has answers!]

Yeah. The space fight. From last week.

[a slight pause, as she looks at him...]

Oh, are you new?

[Krista notices! Krista notices everything. but she's a little busy with the books in her arms, and telling Coil what to do, so she... waits, patiently, keeping an eye on the new guest.

she's not a super-social, friendly person, but she kind of feels like she has authority and responsibility over the space! so after a minute or two, she'll walk quietly up to Merrill herself. her voice is almost a whisper, but that's less because of the library and more because of her fairy curse.]

...Uh, hey. Is there anything you're looking for?

Alas, Sector 9. Such a story was never again told.

[so deadpan. so lineface.]

But uh, sure. If you're not overloaded or anything.

[she... pauses for a second, and then puffs up her cheeks. blows air out.]

Hey, weird question--did your girlfriend show up? To the Fleet.

Excellent! The bishop, correct? I'll be over soon.

[AND THERE HE IS eventually. Poking his head into the library carrying an impressive stack of books pinned between his arms and chin. They threaten to fall as he shuffles in and he nearly spills the books onto the table. But! He doesn't! They're all in one, jumbled stack of uneven spines.]

There we are aaaand—[He plucks a book from the top. It's, to be frank, gorgeous. Embossed and engraved and covered in leaf. He hands it to her with a smile.]—here you are! The Moonmaker's Manifesto. One of the rarest books of Abeo. Or was it Adsum? Hm. I suppose it's not important. What's matters is it's a donation, from me to you. Well, from me and another. Do you know of Tek?

[Adra had been so pleased to find the library aboard this ship. He's had a tiring last few days, so he's thrown himself on the nearest beanbag chair and sunk most of the way into its cozy, yielding surface.

He's got a few books stacked on his chest, a few more scattered around him, and one lying open over half of his face. The titles range from histories to poetry collections to political treatises--though, to be fair, there are an awful lot of political treatises. One of them is probably his own.

Unfortunately, he's made himself a little too comfortable, and as such--he's asleep. He mutters intermittently, mostly parts of speeches he's made to the Magisters' council: demands for more supplies sent to the Ghostlands, arguments about building housing for Silvermoon's many orphans, complaints over the number of corrupt guards in some street called 'Murder Row'.

And, occasionally, a low hiss of protest over once again being thrown in jail for the day.]

Cool my heels ... I'll cool your heels ... freeze'em right to the fucking ground ...

So sad.

It's okay, I've fixed everything on the Fish, and the Tourist got their own engineer now.

[THAT gets the goofiest smile ever. ]

YEAH! She even got shuffled onto the Fish! It's great.

[ He remembers at least the mention of this ship - mostly of it as a sparking wreck behind an engineer child, so he basically wanders on the right ship because he was looking for the battered one. ]

... Glad someone else already started one... [ He's not sure if storing books in an armory would work well out.

Duke does have the one book he has here on him, but he's not entirely certain whether it would fit in. For now, hello books, time to read all the spines... ]

[She's not in the romance section, you're in the romance section!]

[...Okay, that's only 50% accurate because she is in the romance section. And she might have a couple of books tucked under her arm. And she might be reading the back of another one right now, trying to decide if she wants it or not.]

[It's also pretty obvious to anyone who happens to find her here that she's trying to keep a low profile. After a while, she'll just be sitting on the floor between shelves rather than a couch or beanbag. Beside her is a small pile of books and she's currently hunched over a book with her knees folded up close. She starts off paying vague attention to her surroundings, occasionally looking up when she catches movement out of the corner of her eye. But the longer she reads, the less and less she looks up.]
