Tony would probably be proud of Steve, if he were able to see him right now. He'd slap his back and welcome him back to the world of inebriation while ordering shots for everyone in the bar to commemorate the day. As it is, though, Tony isn't here and, without him, there's not a damn person who would feel proud in this entire bar. That's part of it's charm.

Steve sighs and swallows his fourth drink. It's strong and alien and somehow enough to give him a strong buzz but not enough to really get him drunk. Not yet, at least. But he's not a quitter, so bottom's up! He hisses a little at the burn of it and feels, not for the first time, like he was being a coward. He saw some stuff in those rooms, sure. But other people had it so much worse. Saw so much more. He should really be thankful, actually.

But he's not. And this is a 30's approved way of getting over trauma. There were worse ways of coping, he was sure. So for now he's just going to stay in his seat and keep ordering drinks until that elusive drunken state hits him once more.

Should only take another hour or three.

No one could blame Steve for starting. He'd messaged his friends about fifteen minutes ago, telling them to meet him at the bar for some drinks. But just sitting here, waiting? It was done better with a drink in hand to look social, at least. And it's not like that one is going to be his last. No, after Calibrations he can imagine himself coming over here quite often. He can imagine all of them coming here quite often, in fact. But maybe tonight (today? Space was hard to judge) would help take some of the sting off. Or at least some of the awkwardness. 

But it wasn't as though they <i>chose</i> to share all of that. Loki, Steve is sure, would have preferred to keep his death to himself. And Thor? I am sure half of those memories were things he'd rather not have replayed over and over again. And <i>Hux</i>. God... That was just what Steve knew of. Who knew what other people had put his friends through? What they'd been through themselves? 

Steve preemptively orders another drink for whoever shows up first. Whoever it was, he's sure they won't say no. Not now. 

First round is on him.

[He feels like he's learning Loki a little now. After digging in his brain, he should, right? So he's pretty sure he knows where the concern is.]

You talk to Thor yet?

[ loki shoots him a Look. ]

Of course I have. But things are not so simple.

[ they've come forward, in many ways, but they're different people. you're you and I'm me, thor had said once. loki's never had to deal with thor's grief before, not like this. it's not a situation he has much experience in. ]

[He's getting used to these looks, Loki.]

How can things not be simple with everything you guys have been through? I'd think everything else just sort of...loses importance in the face of...

['Your death', he doesn't say and doesn't really have to with how sad his face goes.]

[ loki snorts lightly, taking a sip of his drink. ]

No good comes from mourning the wicked. I can't speak for its importance without sounding self-aggrandizing.

[ which is not something loki usually has a problem with, but dying has always been a difficult topic. one he either deals with cavalierly or not at all. his first "death" was still a sore point. ]

[Steve whistles low.]

Yeah. That checks out. Villains always like the new Disney. Heroes know the good stuff came out before 1970.

[ his brow furrows. ]

[Okay. Remember Loki is an alien, Steve. Not nice to tease.]

No. No, I was just joking that I don't think someone who is sentimental about Stitch is 'wicked'.

[ loki huffs. ]

We simply share parallels, nothing more. I'd hesitate to consider that sentiment.

[Cue Steve's eyebrows]

So you don't want the painting I made of him?

You . . . made a painting of him?

[ loki crosses his arms, petulant. ]

I did. They were for you. I do not need gifts.

[ this is a blatant lie. loki does love gifts, but he's suspicious by nature and not sure what to make of it. ]

So you can give gifts and can't take them? Not really fair...

[Steve sighs and looks up as though considering.]

I suppose I can see if anyone else likes Stitch... It's a pretty good painting so maybe I can sell it....

[ his eyes narrow. okay, now that he knows it's meant for him, clearly he should get it. regardless. that's only right. ]

[ loki scowls, though it's more of a sulk. ]

[Steve shifts back, insulted]

[ his eyebrows climb up. ]

I haven't seen this painting yet. How am I supposed to gauge it?

You're the one saying no one else would want it. I assume that's a jab at my skill.

[ loki scoffs. ]

The people here are philistines. They don't care about art or freedom. All they want to do is live their quiet lives in this shell of a world.

So...I guess I should just throw it out.

[Steve sighs and shrugs.]

Oh well. Next time I'll just do a mountain or something...
