He gestures towards the vent further down the hall.]

[And surprise, The Thing is indeed inside that vent! He can see the head glinting in a weird, metallic way through the vent shadows.]

[Messer doesn't need a translator to get that that was an expletive. Pavel narrowly avoids tripping over his feet as he backs away from the vent.]
Ah. No, that is not remotely a cat. Or a dog.

[There's no species info for this one. If it has a name, he never got it, and the original owner didn't seem to know either.]
It's harmless, for the most part, and it's grown protective of the crew, so you're fine as long as you don't act in a threatening manner.

He hesitantly approaches Daisy's vent again.]
Daisy? Come here, please. You're a very good dog-thing, but you do not belong in there.

[It's kind of amusing, watching Pavel trying to interact with the creature... his efforts are rewarded, at least, when after a moment Daisy crawls carefully out of the vent to sit politely between them, ears perked, observing them both.]
Mission accomplished, I suppose.
