[Aaron does clear his throat before speaking.]

So, this planet seems interesting. Does anyone want to go exploring? Maybe just get out into something a little more open than the ships? Personally, it's been way too long since I've smelled pine.

[He chuckled slightly, shaking his head.]

You just defend the universe from evil, huh? No big deal? [The number of people he's met here with that perspective was staggering and it only got more impressive by the day.] And a rebellion member? That's...a pretty impressive resume, Keith.

[And he didn't miss the fond way Keith mentioned Shiro, either.]

Is Shiro a friend?

[Keith chuckled a little.]

Well, it's definitely something of a big deal. It's not exactly something we just do like brushing your teeth. And the rebellion thing... Yeah. I found out the hard way that I really could only do one at a time. So, I use my ties to them to help with Voltron's missions. We support each other.

[It had sort of almost torn the team apart when he first started training with them and doing missions on a regular basis, so figuring out where the balance was had been hard but important.]

Shiro's... yeah. I'm not really sure how to describe him. He's like a brother to me. He helped me out when I was at a really low point in my life. It really meant the world to me. I'd be a very different person if it wasn't for him.

[That gets a smile from Aaron. He can certainly relate to community involvement.]

Most of the time all we have is each other. Supporting one another is the only way to thrive.

[He smiles at that, too.]

Shiro sounds like a good man. Is he here?

[Keith nodded in agreement about supporting each other, but then sobered up a bit at the question about Shiro.]

He was... for a while. He arrived before I did, but he disappeared during calibrations.

[Aaron frowned at that, looking apologetic.]

...I'm sorry. Losing people suddenly isn't easy.

[Keith almost snorted.]

Story of my life, it seems...

[He shook his head.]

I'm okay. He's back home, and he's okay there, and that's what matters.

[He smiles slightly at that, nodding.]

It is. Sometimes, your loved ones being okay? That's all that matters, no matter the cost.

[Keith nodded, knowing exactly what that meant. He'd done some pretty crazy stuff.]

Yeah. Definitely.

[He smiled a bit, though it was a little dark.]

So... you want to go for more? Or call it quits for the day?

[He kind of wanted to switch back to something more comfortable to focus on.]

[Aaron can recognize that in his friend. Besides, their line of conversation, even though he initiated it, was coming close to reminding him that he hasn't seen Eric in months, and that's not somewhere he'd like his mind to wander.]

Yeah. [And he raises his arms.] Let's go.

[Keith nodded. He worked his way through a few other defensive positions, watching Aaron's form, and, once he was sure the other man had it, he turned a smirk on him.]

Ready to be attacked?

[While Aaron wasn't exactly a quick study, he followed along enough to get the rudimentary forms. The rest was going to just require practice.

He nodded.]

I think so.

[Keith almost looked amused.]

If you're sure.

[He'd take it slow all the same. This would give Aaron the chance to practice without feeling too much pressure.]

[Aaron's no stranger to pressure, having worked with Rick Grimes for nearly a year now. Rick...can be a hard-ass, that's not a secret, but he's a good man, and he knows the risks. Negan's existence makes the necessity pretty clear.]

I'm sure.

[And he accompanies the confirmation with a nod.]

[Keith nodded in return, and came in easy, going for a few punches first, giving Aaron the chance to dodge or block.]

[Aaron's reflexes are some of the only reasons he's still breathing, truth be told, and as the training continues, he lets his own restrictions go a little bit, reacting to attacks rather than thinking about them.]

[Keith picked up on the change in how Aaron was handling himself. That was good. Thinking too much about something could delay a reaction. So, he upped his own attacks, giving him a little push.]

[Aaron hadn't survived in the zombie apocalypse since its outbreak by having a weak survival instinct, and as they moved, and Keith began to press, Aaron started reacting more and more and thinking less and less.

That is until he lands a lucky shot when he doesn't pull a punch, then his face shifts to shock and concern.]

Whoa! Are you okay?

[Keith stumbled back, but managed to keep his feet. Thankfully, he hadn't lost himself to the fight that he didn't just hit back, but he needed a minute before he finally nodded.]

Yeah... I'm okay.

[He rubbed the side of his face, feeling that was going to bruise later, but no big deal.]

I'm good.

[All thoughts of training had flown from his mind, concern the only thing in his face.]

Are you sure? I got you pretty good.

Well, Lance might not be too thrilled with you later if this bruises.

[The main thing that got Keith was he'd been caught off-guard because they'd been practicing. Had this been a real fight, and he'd been ready for a full-on hit, it wouldn't have phased him as much.]

That was a good shot, though. [Keith actually looked a little amused for a moment.] But, uh... yeah. I think it might be a good spot to take a break.

[He looks immediately more apologetic. That might have something to do with knowing how his boyfriend would react if he came home like that.]

I'll explain what happened to him.

If you want, but I think I can handle it. It's not like he's going to jump you in revenge or something.

[Maybe...? At most, it was going to be a stern talking to... at least, Keith thought that was the case.]

[He chuckles uneasily.]

You don't sound so sure about that.

Eehhh... [Keith shrugged.] I mean, he's likely to at least yell at you for it... or me.
