( open ) you are cordially invited...

Who: EVERYONE!
Broadcast: Nope
Action: Jim Kirk and Victor Frankenstein's wedding, and everyone is invited!
When: March 30th

The Bachelor Party (( CLOSED to invited CR ))

The evening before the wedding, Jim and Victor gather up their closest friends, admittedly not many when they haven't been on the Fleet for that long. Bachelor parties would usually happen in separate, but that's difficult to do when they share so many friends, and so they decide to throw the party together.

The setting is simple but cozy; they've picked out a small pub in town, and reserved a rustic little room in the basement. There's a large table with a few games, most notably a chessboard, and a sitting area with couches and chairs gathered around a coffee table, in front of a lit up fireplace. On a small bar by the corner there are a few drinks on offer, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and on a table next to it there is a selection of snacks and various kinds of finger foods to make for a light but hopefully filling dinner.

Courtesy of Kirk 1.0, there's also a music system and a microphone set up next to the sitting area, and you know what that means... karaoke! It's guaranteed to be more fun the drunker you get. Speaking of drunker, someone will definitely be tossing around the idea for strip chess, so hopefully you won't get too embarrassed if people start losing pieces of clothing. But hey, at least everyone's a winner.

The party will go well into the night, and Jim and Victor likely won't leave until everyone else does. So feel free to stick around, play games, sing songs and get drunk... if you get really drunk, you can always make yourself comfortable on one of the couches and fall asleep there. (The patrons can just kick you out eventually, it's okay.)

You Are Cordially Invited... (( OPEN to everyone! ))

The preparations were rushed and the invitations sent out in a bit of a hurry, but it's not like there's ever a lot of time to prepare for a wedding, when one doesn't want to do it aboard one of the ships. But everything seems to be well put together, and there's a very rustic and homely feel from the moment you arrive.

The ceremony proper happens at the lodge, a spot that has been set up with a few seats and a set of stairs leading up to a small canopy, all of it decorated with white fabric and an abundance of flowers. It's short and sweet, and after vows are exchanged and a few words from the one performing the ceremony (hopefully no one will find it too weird that it's the other Jim), they slip on their rings and share a kiss, delighted to let the celebrations continue onto the reception.

With Jim and Victor taking the lead, the guests are walked across a bridge, lit with candle lanterns, strings of white flowers embellishing the wooden frame. The good portion of the reception is outside, and everything is decorated with lanterns, string lights hanging everywhere and resembling stars more and more as the sun starts to set, and (yes, you guessed it) more flowers.

As a matter of fact, there are flowers a little all over the place. In jars hanging from trees, tied to the backs of chairs, bundled up in crates that are spread out all over the area. The food is set up on large tables, divided by starters, main dishes and desserts, the wedding cake having its own smaller but more prominent stand near the dessert table. There are no assigned seats, however. After all, everyone was invited and it's not like there are that many people on the Fleet, so just grab a plate, help yourself, and take a seat wherever! You might even find a few of the locals joining in on the party a little later, but both grooms seem more than happy to welcome them too.

The party goes on a little into the night. Everyone is free to hang around for as long as they want, or leave early if you're scared of the dark... but don't worry, there are lights all over the place! There are also plenty of cozy little nooks and corners where guests can make themselves comfortable, and if you start to get a little chilly, feel free to borrow one of the many blankets on offer, or simply head into the indoors portion of the reception. It's small but there are a few seats and even a fireplace to keep the place warm.

If you like sitting by a fire but would much rather stay outside, a small campfire will be lit up just before the sun starts to set, and a small table with plates of something that looks close to marshmallows, chocolate and biscuits set up nearby. Have a seat around the fire and build your own s'more, and toss in a campfire song or two if you're feeling inspired.

And of course, can't have a wedding without a dance floor! Or two, as it so happens: one indoors, and another one outside, the latter far more enchanting, with endless string lights hanging high above a flat wooden platform. There's a fairly modern music system so you might recognize a lot of late 20th and early 21st music playing, but for those more musically inclined there are also plenty of local instruments you can pick up and try your luck at playing a song, or even sing.

The party is very loose and carefree. Do what you want, come and go as you please, steal either of the grooms away for a dance, or find a pair among the other guests... whatever you want to do, and however long you want to stay, feel free to do as you please!

Bucky blows out a breath. "I don't know that I could take ghosts on top of it all."

Then again, what is he saying. He's dealt with freaking aliens, he can pretty much deal with anything. He just doesn't have to like it. "Guess you're the guy to go to for advice about how not to get drowned, then, huh?"

Not that he's about to make Victor work - or anything like it - on his wedding night. But that's good to know.

"I'd say stay away from where that drowning ghost hangs out until we leave the planet," Victor answered. "Oh, and don't take a boat anywhere. I heard stories of a kraken-type monster as well."

"Yeah, I think I'm done with lakes and rivers for the rest of the trip," Bucky admits wryly. "Especially if there's a kraken. I like my krakens where they belong - in pulp novels."

He shakes his head a bit. "Hope you weren't planning a honeymoon cruise."
jolting: (W: Talk)

[personal profile] jolting 2019-04-15 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
"No, we'll probably just take a lodge until it's time to get back on the ship." Though if cruising among the stars was a thing, they'd be doing that.

Bucky nods. "My best friend and I have been staying in one. They're not bad - definitely a little more room to spread out. I can't say I was ever a big fan of nature, though, so it beats camping out."

He grins a little. "Got anything else planned, or are you just gonna stay in?"

Victor threw back a smile of his own. "Of course, but it's not really something I'm going to discuss." Besides, he's fairly sure Bucky can guess what sorts of plans a newly married couple might have.

"I get it," Bucky chuckles - and he definitely does, because yeah. He can guess, and he does not need details. Still, "It's nice that you'll get the chance." Even if they had to rush the wedding - or at least plan to have it on short notice - they'll get a chance to enjoy some time alone afterward. "Especially after everything it sounds like you two had to go through, to get here."

jolting: (W: Profile)

[personal profile] jolting 2019-04-15 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Victor agrees with a light in his eyes. "But believe me, this isn't rushed. We've been moving toward this for a while. We already had to battle space and time to be together. We weren't going to wait longer."
stillgotmyleftarm: (smile 1)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-04-15 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)

"Yeah," Bucky agrees - because it does make sense. When you find something you want... you go for it, especially when that something could be taken away. There's no point in waiting when waiting might be the thing that does you in. "I hope you get to enjoy it for a long time." And he means that.

"And I'm sorry I didn't really have anything to bring as a gift, but - uh, I guess if you ever need anything really heavy moved," he says, with a rueful chuckle. "I bet Steve and I could make a pretty decent moving service."

"I'll keep that in mind," Victor assured him. "Thank you." He hesitates for a moment, then says, "You any good at dancing?"

Bucky laughs a little. "I sure as hell used to be. Think I probably still am. Why?"

"It's a party," Victor answered. "And I'd like to dance. Come on." He takes Bucky by the hand and leads him out to the dance floor. The music was mostly from the 1980s and thus great for dancing.

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-04-16 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)

Bucky blinks, but - well, okay. He's easy to lead out, and he figures he shouldn't really turn a guy down on his wedding night.

"I don't recognize the music," he admits wryly, "but that's not necessarily strange." He picks things up fast, and he's got a good sense of rhythm. So he might let Victor get a slight head start, but he can certainly follow easily enough.

jolting: (V: Working)

[personal profile] jolting 2019-04-16 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
He just smiles at that. These kinds of songs are easy to dance to, even if you don't know them. Victor might have been surprised by Bucky's face, but now he was curious about the man.

"So what era are you from?"
stillgotmyleftarm: (Default)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-04-16 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)

There's definitely a beat, and Bucky can pick it up after a few bars. He admittedly feels a little rusty, but the act of dancing comes back like riding a bike, and it's easy to fall back into it.

"That's kind of a loaded question," he says ruefully. "I skipped from 1945 right to 2012. Slept through everything in between. It's 2014 now. And there still aren't flying cars - a serious disappointment, let me tell you."

jolting: (W: Tilt)

[personal profile] jolting 2019-04-16 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's not so bad," Victor assures him. "I came from a place with nineteenth century technology and jumped all the way to 1983. And then I met James, who's from even farther in the future. I don't know if he has flying cars by his time. I never thought to ask."
stillgotmyleftarm: (neutral good)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-04-16 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)

"Okay, I think you win," Bucky chuckles, though behind it there's at least a thread of sympathy and understanding. It's not easy, even going seventy years in the future. He can only imagine more - but he can imagine it. "But if somebody doesn't have flying cars someday, I'm gonna feel cheated."

This from a guy who can pilot the shuttles and ships, he knows, but still. "People are still pretty much people, though - no matter where they started out. Is this more like what your guy's used to, then?" The ships and the fleet, he means - ideally not the kidnapping.

jolting: (W: Pockets)

[personal profile] jolting 2019-04-16 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That gets a chuckle from Victor. Flying cars sound great, and look cool in movies, but they have a long way to go before people can fly around on their own.

"Yeah," he nods. "James is the captain of a star ship back in his world. He's explored lots of different planets and met aliens. But even back in Riverview, I got to experience a bit of space travel. So it's not all entirely new to me."
stillgotmyleftarm: (neutral good)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-04-18 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)

Bucky just shakes his head a little; "It's unsettling enough to wrap my head around the Atroma kidnapping us from all over creation - literally. The fact that they're not the only ones doing it... " But he blows out a breath, and figures that's not really the best subject for a party. Not when that "kidnapping" has resulted in something good. "But I guess people can get used to anything - including spaceships and tiny boxes they carry around in their pockets that are supposed to be phones."

He grins again. "What was the weirdest thing for you to get used to? In the future."

jolting: (W: Lean)

[personal profile] jolting 2019-04-18 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Victor has to think about that answer for a while. What he finds "weird" probably wouldn't be the same as Bucky's perception. "I guess... the internet? It's a little mind-blowing to think that it's so fast and easy to connect with people from across the world."
stillgotmyleftarm: (neutral good)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-04-22 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)

"That's a good one," Bucky agrees, with a grin. "I mean, some of us remember waiting weeks for letters from halfway around the world. When somebody showed me texting, I kinda expected it to take longer, you know?"

jolting: (V: Read)

[personal profile] jolting 2019-04-22 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right?" Victor smiles at the other. "I'm lucky to have memories of the twentieth century to help me along. As well as a patient teenage boy who explained everything I asked. You have anyone like that who helped you get acclimated?"
stillgotmyleftarm: (neutral good)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-04-23 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)

Bucky considers, tilting his head wryly. "I had a mess of government agents. And the Black Widow. Which - made things interesting," he finally decides.

But ultimately, he shakes his head. "Honestly, most of what I learned, I figured out for myself. Spent a couple weeks in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but a laptop, a phone, an internet connection, and a library's worth of history books on a tablet. I got caught up on the history and tech real fast, it was just the rest," the social graces, such as they were, "that took me longer. People are people, but they can still change a lot."

jolting: (V: Glasses glance)

[personal profile] jolting 2019-04-23 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess," Victor hummed. "I've certainly learned just how different people can be across the various worlds. Yet how alike at the same time."
stillgotmyleftarm: (half smile)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-04-24 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"That sounds about right," Bucky agrees. "Even everyone I've met here... it's true of them, too. We all come from different places, but we all manage to function together. It's like some big social experiment." Admittedly, "That's kinda what my life felt like, when I first woke up in the future."

He doesn't just come out and say that to anyone, but Victor seems like he'd understand, at least. Besides, Bucky is smiling and rueful, doing his best to keep it light.
