[The teen recording the video is settled in the kitchen of the Goldstone for the moment, a cup of something hot in hand. A few people might be able to guess, and correctly, that it's tea.]

I'm sure the chances are rather slim but would anyone have a violin they might part with? Or the ability to make one.

I miss having one and playing. I used to have daily lessons before I left England.

[Here is a big man-- definitely not the kind of guy you think of when you hear the word 'luthier'. He looks like a wrestler. And he was, once.]

I think I can make one. Do you have any mats on you or should I poke around the next planet? I've got some, but it'd make for a crappy violin.

[Definitely not but Ciel's learned not to judge people on their looks. He's learned but he does still slip up once in awhile. The worst he does now though is stare in surprise.]

I'm afraid not. I only arrived here a bit over a month ago. During calibrations. I'll be glad to help look for material next time we stop though.

[He scritches at his stubbly chin.]

In that case, I'm gonna need some aged maple. If there's a hardwood you like more and we find that, I can make it work. I've actually got some purple ebony I can use for the fingerboard and some spruce so we're covered there.

What kind of strings do you use?

Ah... [He looks a little embarrassed for a moment.]

I don't actually know about the strings. My butler handled choosing my violin, he wanted to be sure it was befitting an earl and something I might grow into. [And then he hadn't really grown much at all...] I suppose, when we reach another planet, I'll be glad to defer to you on what you'd think best.

[Magnus is warm and friendly, not annoyed at all.]

You're in luck! It just so happens that my sister from another mister knows all about violins. I'll ask her about what to use for strings. She's gotta be getting her replacements somewhere.

What's your name, kiddo?

[To his still very much Victorian ear, that doesn't make a lot of sense, but he at least understands that there's hope of finding what strings he'd need.]

I'm Ciel Phantomhive. Pleased to meet you, and I very much appreciate your help.

[He seems nice enough, very polite. He'd probably get along with Ango, Magnus thinks.]

Magnus Burnsides. [He gives a grin and a wink.] Nice to meet you too!

I'll start drafting out your violin while we're coasting to the next place. You want a standard size violin, right? Nothing super custom?

[He tries to be polite, at least, burying the ugly bits of his personality as Queen's Watchdog as deep as he can. He doesn't need that part of himself anymore.]

No, it doesn't need to be anything special. As long as the sound is pleasant and it isn't too big for me.

I'll work on the tone with my friend, make sure it sounds right. But just in case-- how tall are you? Can you get someone to help you measure your arm?

[Maybe a 7/8 violin is better. Just to be on the safe side.]

[For a moment he just goes quiet, cheeks turning an embarrassed red.]

I, ah... I'm just over five feet tall. [For being nearly sixteen, he's still small. And he hates it.]

I'm sure Undertaker wouldn't mind helping with that.

[Magnus just beams.]

Hey, no big deal. You're still growin'.

[A pause.]

Wait, you have a friend named Undertaker? [That is the most badass name he has ever heard. Or it's close to it.] Does he fight good?

[He still feels a bit embarrassed.]

I do. He's been looking after me since we left England. [He almost wants to laugh but remembers that he's probably the only human that's ever seen him in action.]

He does but he doesn't fight often. I... don't think I've ever met anyone more powerful than him.

[Maybe he just needs to multiclass.]

Well dang, maybe that's why he doesn't fight a whole lot. I'd like to run up against someone like that. In a friendly way, obviously!

He sounds like a swell guy though, if he's been looking after you. But you seem like a nice kid too.

You're more than welcome, I'm sure, to visit the Goldstone and meet him. [Luckily, Undertaker would be friendly. Odd, but friendly.]

I'm glad to hear you think so. I know a few in England might disagree.

[He's pretty odd too, as far as oddness goes.]

Hmm. Maybe I will!

[He shrugs at that.] Well, they're not here, are they? Who cares what they think, anyway-- as long as you're doing your best, you're untouchable. They're not worth your time.

And, like, you're obviously not an adult. If someone's that mad about a teen being a teen, they oughtta get a hobby.

[He blinks. And stares for a moment. The smiles a bit.] I suppose they aren't. I'm not used to hearing that.

I've been learning how to be a kid, really. So I don't blame anyone for getting irritated with me.

Hello Ciel, how are you?

You can play the violin? That's neat! I haven't heard any live music as of late. Have you found a violin yet?

I could play the piano but there are no instruments on board. But the ship's computer can play classical music or gospel music for me if I ask for it.

Ah- Father Nightroad.

[He offers the man a polite smile before shaking his head.] I can play the violin and the piano. It's expected of a nobleman to study the arts. I also paint and take fencing lessons.

I haven't found one, though a Magnus Burnsides has offered to make me one.

[Despite a short argument since they had last, he still checks in with his friends every now and then.]

How are you, are you doing well? Well, I hope to hear you play sometime.

[With a nod.]

Of course, even the nobles back home practiced a lot of talents. Music is no exception.

You paint? That's quite a hobby. I was thinking of giving painting a try myself. After all, it gets around here especially at night on the ship.

[Which is something the teen still has to adjust to. Most people avoid him after a bad meeting. At least back in England.]

Perhaps you will, if we can find the materials in the next system.

If there are things to pain, I don't see why you shouldn't though. No doubt all of these ships could do with some color.

[Abel was fairly used to petty squabbles. He has to fight the other priests for something as small as who gets the last donut. Small spoiler: Abel ate the whole dozen to settle the score once and for all!]

I shall put that in my shopping list the next time we find a planet to land on. The last one, I spend on getting a useful camera and getting strange creatures and beasts on film.

I must, if we paint a picture, what would you paint? I'm thinking of painting flowers and still life or even more fun, painting a portrait of people.

[He kind of misses the cameras they had in Riverview. So simple and portable compared to Pitt's, back in England.]

I'm not sure. I think I prefer music to painting, really. It was just a necessary daily lesson. Sebastian would usually provide still life scenes for me to paint.

I like music too. [Thoughtful look.] If you ever get around to that violin, I hope to find a piano for myself. A real one, but being it's a complicated instrument, I don't think anyone can simply make it out by hand.

So far, the ship's system will just have to give me a program that mimics the piano sound and keys instead, and it wouldn't sound realistic, but it's close enough.

A piano will be a lot harder, I'm sure. If we're visiting other planets though, one of them much have one at some point, right? Then it's only a matter of getting it onto your ship.

[Maybe that won't be hard, exactly, just a bit of a pain. Finding one will be harder, he thinks.]

I could try to record a few things, I suppose?

I don't have one, but what would you need to make one? I can try to help with that part?

I never had to make one so I'm not entirely sure. Wood, certainly, and strings though I don't know what you need to make those. Magnus has offered to make me one so he'd probably be the best person to ask awhile.

Yeah! That would help a ton. If he needs stuff to make one, I help look for it or buy it or whatever.

[Blink. Stare.]

Oh, I would want to impose-

I don't expect anyone else to have to be put out for my hobby.

Nah, you wouldn't be. I'm offering so it's not putting me out!

[Sora has worked for that money, after all. And Ciel is still rather new.]

Oh yeah! What's the point of any of this if I can't help out my friends?

[Excuse him for a moment. He's not used to hearing people call him a friend.]

[That and Sora pretty much always decides to be friends way sooner than others might.]

Hey, we all need something to keep our minds off things. And the fact that you can play music is pretty impressive! That takes talent and dedication.

[Ciel is noticing that quickly.]

I've been taking lessons for years. It used to be rather tedious but I've started enjoying it again in the last year.

Do you think you could teach someone too?

Teach..?

[He blinks, stares, and swallows.]

I'm not sure. I never gave it any thought but I suppose I could teach a little bit? At least notes on a violin, how to hold it properly, and how to read music.
