michael burnham | star trek discovery
[ dinosaurs!! it's the discovery of the lifetime and even though michael doesn't have her tricorder, she still has the device the fleet provided for her. so she heads down to the planet with a stun gun (which settings she adjusted for larger dinosaurs just in case) and her recording device. she stops at a clearing where a bunch of triceratops were lounging around, making precise detailed notes. ]
And here we see the genus of the Ceratopsidae family, the Triceratops grazing outside. It has notable features . . .
[ she is a little caught up in her work and not paying that much attention in her surroundings. feel free to interrupt her. ]
( b. right said fred? )
[ the city hadn't interested her as much as the surroundings above the surface. it reminded her of the fancier space stations and other cities she's been to and thus, didn't hold her interest for long beyond collecting data on their history and culture. there was one person that kept cropping up though. fred. curious, michael heads down to meet him and catches him during a rally where fred was belting out ludicrous theory after theory. michael chuckles softly. ]
I thought these things died out years ago. They used to say the same about Starfleet.
( c. the glowing forest )
[ it had been difficult getting here, but now that she was finally here, michael was . . .
. . . going to enjoy herself. when it starts getting dark, she rolls up her pants and digs her legs in with a bright giggle. a few large fish swim closer but lose interest when they realize it's not food and she walks a little further in, taking pictures. ]
Curiouser and curiouser.
( d. wildcard )
[ got a prompt? drop it here / pm this journal / poke me @

[Who knows how long he's been there. Nico's very good at hiding in plain sight. But he's curious enough to step out, eyes on the creatures lumbering around nearby. He'd had a book about dinosaurs when he was younger. The old 1930's illustrations didn't do this justice.]

Yes. You can come closer. She's very sleepy right now.

Are you from Earth? [He's assuming yes, though apparently dinosaurs are not unique to his planet.] A scientist or something?
no subject
[ they traveled constantly as scientists and thus, earth holds very little meaning for her. ]

[Though if she is able to not live on Earth, the technology where she's from must be more advanced than his world. No one was more shocked than him when he learned they'd gone to the moon.
He nods to the dinosaur.]
Did you learn anything interesting?

[He only ever saw cartoony drawings in an illustrated book, most of them smiling or wearing weirdly expressive eyes.]
no subject
For the most part, yes, though obviously in terms of guessing behavior, we were a little off.

What things died out?
no subject
[ michael smiles. ]
Conspiracy theories. They're designed to sow fear-mongering and discord.
no subject
I don't think it's possible for those to ever die out, personally. The harmless ones are even funny occasionally.

[That's the sort of thing Leia's never heard before, in any system at home or here.]
Where is it you're from?

[There's a lot of people from there here, after all; it'd be bizarre if she hadn't heard of it by now.]
Vulcan, on the other hand, is a new one.

[The sort she's hoping they'll have the chance to build once the Empire is gone. If the Empire is ever gone.]
I don't have much experience with desert planets, personally. My own home was nearly as opposite as you can get while still being habitable for humans.
no subject
[ it is a lot of work, but possible. always. ]
What was your world like?
no subject
[It's one of the only hopes she has to cling to at the moment back home anyway.]
Most of it was mountainous, usually cooler where I lived. The whole planet wasn't cold, but the most populated areas were.

Then you must be enjoying at least the travel part of being on board the Fleet.

Still, I want to make the most of it.
