( a. woman inherits the earth )

[ dinosaurs!! it's the discovery of the lifetime and even though michael doesn't have her tricorder, she still has the device the fleet provided for her. so she heads down to the planet with a stun gun (which settings she adjusted for larger dinosaurs just in case) and her recording device. she stops at a clearing where a bunch of triceratops were lounging around, making precise detailed notes. ]

And here we see the genus of the Ceratopsidae family, the Triceratops grazing outside. It has notable features . . .

[ she is a little caught up in her work and not paying that much attention in her surroundings. feel free to interrupt her. ]

( b. right said fred? )

[ the city hadn't interested her as much as the surroundings above the surface. it reminded her of the fancier space stations and other cities she's been to and thus, didn't hold her interest for long beyond collecting data on their history and culture. there was one person that kept cropping up though. fred. curious, michael heads down to meet him and catches him during a rally where fred was belting out ludicrous theory after theory. michael chuckles softly. ]

I thought these things died out years ago. They used to say the same about Starfleet.

( c. the glowing forest )

[ it had been difficult getting here, but now that she was finally here, michael was . . .

. . . going to enjoy herself. when it starts getting dark, she rolls up her pants and digs her legs in with a bright giggle. a few large fish swim closer but lose interest when they realize it's not food and she walks a little further in, taking pictures. ]

Curiouser and curiouser.

[personal profile] wakemelater 2019-05-14 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that really a triceratops?

[Who knows how long he's been there. Nico's very good at hiding in plain sight. But he's curious enough to step out, eyes on the creatures lumbering around nearby. He'd had a book about dinosaurs when he was younger. The old 1930's illustrations didn't do this justice.]

[ michael grins softly, beckoning him closer. ]

Yes. You can come closer. She's very sleepy right now.
wakemelater: (straitface)

[personal profile] wakemelater 2019-05-15 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
[He does creep closer, though with one hand on his sword. He knows from experience that one shouldn't judge, but it's also his experience that large beasts are generally not friends. And animals typically just didn't like being around him. That subtle hint of death that clung to him didn't sit well with them.]

Are you from Earth? [He's assuming yes, though apparently dinosaurs are not unique to his planet.] A scientist or something?
rediscovers: (Just to stay in place)

[personal profile] rediscovers 2019-05-15 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
My parents were human, but I haven't lived on Earth before.

[ they traveled constantly as scientists and thus, earth holds very little meaning for her. ]
wakemelater: (look up)

[personal profile] wakemelater 2019-05-16 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. Probably not missing out on much.

[Though if she is able to not live on Earth, the technology where she's from must be more advanced than his world. No one was more shocked than him when he learned they'd gone to the moon.

He nods to the dinosaur.]

Did you learn anything interesting?

rediscovers: (A great deal faster than it does)

[personal profile] rediscovers 2019-05-17 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
That depends on your definition on interesting. Dinosaurs have been extinct for so long that most of our data is conjecture. So, in my case, I find it fascinating to discover how close we were to the truth.
wakemelater: (frowny neutral)

[personal profile] wakemelater 2019-05-21 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Were we? Close to the truth?

[He only ever saw cartoony drawings in an illustrated book, most of them smiling or wearing weirdly expressive eyes.]

[ michael takes a second, going over her data. ]

For the most part, yes, though obviously in terms of guessing behavior, we were a little off.

[Rather than listening to Fred's ravings, it's that comment from Michael that catches Leia's interest. She's not sure who it was addressed to, but she can't help but ask further.]

What things died out?
rediscovers: (Mine is a long and a sad tale)

[personal profile] rediscovers 2019-05-20 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh.

[ michael smiles. ]

Conspiracy theories. They're designed to sow fear-mongering and discord.
oratorical: (pic#10405190)

[personal profile] oratorical 2019-05-22 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Leia nods, a small, amused upturn to the corner of her lips at the clarification.]

I don't think it's possible for those to ever die out, personally. The harmless ones are even funny occasionally.
rediscovers: (Curiouser and curiouser)

[personal profile] rediscovers 2019-05-22 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
There are little reasons to create conspiracy theories when everything is available. Information, food, luxuries. We no longer have monetary-based systems anymore.
oratorical: (pic#10405193)

[personal profile] oratorical 2019-05-23 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Really?

[That's the sort of thing Leia's never heard before, in any system at home or here.]

Where is it you're from?
rediscovers: (Birds of a feather flock together)

[personal profile] rediscovers 2019-05-23 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
My parents were from Earth but I grew up on the planet Vulcan.
oratorical: (pic#10378226)

[personal profile] oratorical 2019-05-24 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Earth I've heard of.

[There's a lot of people from there here, after all; it'd be bizarre if she hadn't heard of it by now.]

Vulcan, on the other hand, is a new one.

It is a desert planet and one of the founding planets in the Federation — a united coalition meant to foster peace and harmony.
oratorical: (pic#10405196)

[personal profile] oratorical 2019-05-26 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
The sort of organization my own galaxy needs.

[The sort she's hoping they'll have the chance to build once the Empire is gone. If the Empire is ever gone.]

I don't have much experience with desert planets, personally. My own home was nearly as opposite as you can get while still being habitable for humans.
rediscovers: (Just to stay in place)

[personal profile] rediscovers 2019-05-26 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I have no doubt that it's possible everywhere.

[ it is a lot of work, but possible. always. ]

What was your world like?
oratorical: (pic#10405229)

[personal profile] oratorical 2019-05-26 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'd hope so.

[It's one of the only hopes she has to cling to at the moment back home anyway.]

Most of it was mountainous, usually cooler where I lived. The whole planet wasn't cold, but the most populated areas were.
rediscovers: (It's always tea time)

[personal profile] rediscovers 2019-05-26 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
What was it called?
oratorical: (pic#10405219)

[personal profile] oratorical 2019-05-26 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Alderaan. I don't know that you'd know of it, however.
rediscovers: (Mine is a long and a sad tale)

[personal profile] rediscovers 2019-05-26 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid not, but I enjoy learning about new planets and worlds.
oratorical: (pic#10405229)

[personal profile] oratorical 2019-05-26 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[She smiles, slightly, at that. She can understand that feeling pretty well.]

Then you must be enjoying at least the travel part of being on board the Fleet.
rediscovers: (Curiouser and curiouser)

[personal profile] rediscovers 2019-05-27 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
I am. I enjoy any and all opportunity to explore, though I understand that our circumstances could be better.

Still, I want to make the most of it.
