The Vanakaliva Islands

[Vash has always enjoyed the sounds, sight, and small of the ocean. Many times when he has a bit of time to waste he sits out on the beach and smiles out at the water. He can stay like this for hours at a time if allowed.] Isn't it amazing? The way it moves. How much life it holds just under the surface? Simply amazing. [He muses out lout as you approach him.]

Memorial of the First

[Another place Vash likes to linger and visit is the memorial wall. He runs his hands over the names that he can reach. Reading them one by one and spending a little time at each. Wondering what the person behind the name was like. Were they kind? Where they brave? Did they like where they wound up? Were the always missing their home? Had they died back home to be given a second life here? He had so many questions that he wished he could ask them.] I hope that you were all happy.

Lerian Magitech Institute

[Run into Vash here as he works on upgrading the Twin Roses. Mostly he's looking to upgrade the Roses's shields and maneuverability. He's also trying to afford and upgrade to her weapon, but focusing on non-lethal options.]

Regain

[Vash had listened to the planet and has been rewarded. He'll be walking around with a new necklace around his neck. It seems like Vash is adding more and more jewelry to himself as he's also wearing a new bracelet.]

Closed to Kitty

[Vash has found himself a secluded part of the beach and he's gotten an idea.] Hey Kitty. What are you up to? Ah, I was wondering if you might like to help me learn to swim?

You don't know how to swim? Weren't we in the water together before? This isn't to try and push me in the water again, is it? [She didn't enjoy that.]

We were, but I could touch the bottom then. So I think that counts more as standing than swimming. And if I remember right I didn't exactly plan on swimming that day. [Thanks for pushing him in with his clothes still on Nami.] And I won't try to dunk you anymore. Lesson learned.

Oh, I didn't realize that. Sure. [She wants to reassure him about the dunking, but it's still good he avoid it. Love or not, survival is a strong instinct. And she let love override survival once before and death occurred so there's always that.] Swimming is a good thing to know. Especially since we hit water planets occasionally. You're on the planet, right? Doesn't look like the Iskaulit. [Though it's mostly his face in the frame.]

Oh yeah? [She smiles.] This starting to sound less about learning swimming. [Though she's still definitely expecting a body suit since she doubts it's entirely private wherever he is.

No, no! I want to learn how to swim. Besides if I learn how to swim maybe we can go skinning dipping later. [He says with his large eyebrows wagging and a smirk on his face.]

Great! I'll see you soon! [He waits with excitement for her to arrive. Hoping that she will be pleased by what he's done and healing from over the last couple weeks. He'll be waiting for to join him and wearing his coat. Smiling brightly when he spots her.] Kitty! Over here!

[The coat is even more expected than a wetsuit. He'll probably wear it into the water knowing him.] I see you. Hard to miss all in red. [She smiles as she gets closer.]

Yeah? Then maybe I should undress a little. I would hate for someone to notice us way out here. [His cheeks and ears turn a soft shade of red as he attempts to be seductive.] And, well, there was actually something I wanted to show you.

[He starts to remove his jacket and as he slides it off his shoulders the first thing she'll probably notice is he's not wearing his armor underneath this time. In fact his chest is bare. As in completely bare. The metal grate is now completely gone. Even the chunk of missing skin it once rested over was looking a bit better. Amazing what a skilled doctor could do.] I ah, I hope you approve.

[When he starts to strip it off she figures he's just teasing or maybe he's serious and playtime before swimming lessons. When the chest is bare she almost blushes since she's not used to him being so open outdoors and maybe it really is playtime which she isn't not into. She kind of likes the being out in the open scenario. The sense of danger and the heat of how much you have to need each other to want to risk it. Then the coat falls away and what he reveals is not the familiar Vash chest but one that has been healed more professionally? Or at least more modernly? At least in part.]

When? ...How? [She should probably be more careful in her reaction since he's clearly looking for some affirmations here, but she's so surprised that it's just happened. They'd talked about it before, but she didn't think he was taking any steps toward it. She reaches out with fingertips skimming just above the surface, not sure if the flesh was safe to touch yet.]

[His cheeks flush slightly. A little embarrassed by a fuss being made over him even if he can understand her surprise.] It sort of happened kind of fast. [Because he rushed it a bit. Wanting to do it before he changed his mind.] I met a doctor on the fleet. New guy and goes by the name Undertaker. [He chuckles. He knows it sounds bad.] He's actually a really nice guy and a really good doctor.

We found and bought some equipment on a planet that would let him see how deep down the metal went. When he looked it actually turned out to not be very deep. He said it would actually be really quick and fairly easy to remove so I told him he could go ahead.

I don't know if you remember the day I told you I was going to staying somewhere else for the night a couple weeks back? I, ah, I don't know why but I sort of wanted to surprise you? I hope it's a good one?

I remember. [Of course she remembers. She has a hard time sleeping alone. And she wondered if something was wrong, but she didn't ask. She accepted it breezily or at least appeared to because that's what she does with Vash.]

Yeah, I mean... You did it for you I hope, but it's good. [She thinks it's good. Metal not in the body should tend to be better when possible although there are exceptions. He seems healthy, but she feels uncomfortable at the thought of him doing it for her. It's a massive change to his body after all. And it probably came with some risk. I mean, maybe we should get into the Undertaker thing since he was a god of death or something. At least he said something like that when they talked. Her thoughts aren't all too focused on it at the moment.]

Why didn't you tell me? I could have flown you or something.

I did, but you still inspired me to be brave enough to do it.

[He shrugs.] I dunno. When I first went over I thought we'd just be looking. It went from looking to doing so fast I was worried if I waited at all for anything I might change my mind. I didn't want to do that.

We're looking at a bit doing a bit more. Fixing up a few more scars and ah-- [Both his ears and cheeks go bright red. He even clears his throat before speaking.] Um, he thinks he might even be able to put my other nipple back. I promise to tell you about everything else going forward.

Memorial of the First

[After years and years in these strange universes that draw in people from distant worlds, Pavel has developed an intense appreciation for reminders of those who have come before. Existence is fleeting in places like this, and often the only evidence that anyone existed at all is whatever memory of them lives on in those who remain. Having one's name read by a stranger isn't, of course, the same as being remembered, but Pavel likes to imagine that contemplating the names does some metaphysical good.

That it reminds the universe, however briefly, of the people that it forgot. That it prevents those people from vanishing entirely.

As hesitant as he is to intrude on Vash's own quiet contemplation, it seems unforgivably rude to stay silent.]

A very ambitious hope.

I'm a very ambitious sort of person. [Vash turns to Pavel with a smile. Clearly not at all bothered by his intrusion.] It's a pretty nice planet. I think they all could have been happy living here.

Then maybe it's an entirely reasonable hope. The planet is nice. [He sounds more like he'd like to believe this than actually convinced.] I wonder how the fleet would fare, if we found ourselves stranded here.

We're all pretty resourceful. We might still be able to find a way out even if we got left behind by the ships.

I don't think this would be such bad spot though. If I didn't have to worry about the things going on at home I think I would like to stay here.

Perhaps. [Pavel clearly has his doubts about that, but there's no need to be a killjoy.]

If it helps you to worry less, it seems likely that none of us disappear from our own universes. ...Although thinking about that can be existentially worrisome.

I have heard of that. That time stands still back home and we're returned back to the last moment we remember.

[Vash frowns at the names on the wall.] Does that mean there are two of these people in the universe? Or does that mean their worlds are still frozen as they were because they didn't return?

Neither of those, not really. Universes are always splitting and sometimes merging again, so it's impossible to say how many versions of any individual exist. But no, I think it's unlikely that any universes have frozen because someone failed to return. This universe is temporally isolated from all of our home universes... millennia could pass here while no time at all passes elsewhere.

Ugh. This kind of talk always makes my head spin a little bit. The idea of multiple me-s running around would probably give a friend of mine back home a heart attack.

Perhaps it would put your friend's mind at ease to know that there are just as many thems out there in the multiverse. [A smile.] Or maybe not. I have confirmed that there are at least two other versions of me in existence, and knowing that they exist is slightly discomforting.

He'd just feel bad about all those other poor souls out there also having to deal with me.
