[Well that killed the mood fast. Cass doesn't want to talk about Jason with Tim, not when she's fully aware of how he's got to feel about him. More than that, she'd been enjoying her time with Ino and she doesn't particularly the idea of someone she wants to consider a friend being chased off. It's not like she has a whole truckload of friends, after all.

So, just to be stubborn and contrary, she pats the spot beside her.]

You can stay. Was still learning. [To Tim, she'll clarify,] I'm learning braiding.

I - all right. Ino, it's fine. I don't mind.

[His voice and posture make it the worst lie in the universe - he exhibits every classic tell. Not the mix most people do, not the suppressed signs Tim and some sociopaths usually give, every tell all at once, some of them obviously rehearsed.

They're about to play a game of Telephone and a game of Opposite Day at the same time, and he needs her to be ready for it.]

[ She glances between them suspiciously for a moment, because this seems .... really awkward, and she really doesn't want to want to interrupt if they need to have some kind of heart to heart ...

But, after a moment, she decides Cass wanting her to stay is more important, so she'll shrug ]

All right, if you're sure.

[ She'll just flop back down on the bed with Cass ]

[Maybe a little selfishly, Cass was hoping it would deter Tim even slightly from doing this now, or at all, to put someone unrelated to Bat drama in the middle of the whole thing.

But it doesn't work, and even though she wants to glare at Tim she chooses to reach out and run her fingers through Ino's hair instead, carefully separating a small section to practice on.]

Hope you're not... fighting already, with him. He just got here.

I tried dusting off the olive branch. He wasn't having any of it. It took him about two minutes to get to the death threats. I know he's... family. But we can't trust him. He's got an agenda that has nothing to do with ours.

[Except for the line about the death threats, everything he says is a lie, transparent to her by the flicker of his eyes and the shift of his shoulders. He only hopes she's following along. He made a peace offering. I agreed. We can trust him. We have a common agenda.

He's never tried to do this with her before. How good, exactly, is her talent? Can she tell what he means.]

I know you're going to disagree. But tell me... you at least understand.

[ino]

[ Whoa, death threats? She doesn't say anything -- not really her place, after all -- but she just got a whole lot more interested in the conversation.

She doesn't stare openly or anything as Tim talks, though, instead opting to watch Cass' fingers, setting a hair tie next to her leg for if and when she makes it to the end of the braid ]

[Briefly, Cass sets a hand on Ino's shoulder. It's meant to calm, to let her know it's not quite that bad, and that she doesn't have to worry.

Her attention is on Tim, so the braid isn't coming out very well. As Cass undoes a few passes, she shakes her head. He doesn't have to lie about these things just because there's someone else who might understand him, but Tim has always been this way. He doesn't trust and it's always rubbed her wrong.]

I make my choices. You aren't Bruce.

[You can't tell me what to do.]

But I understand. It doesn't change anything.

I wouldn't ask you to pick sides, or anything like that. I just wanted you to know what was going on, and to... be careful. In case anything happens.

[It isn't Ino he's thinking about, but their silent, imagined television audience. But of course, he can't read her the way she reads him, so he's got no idea that's what Cass is thinking of.]

[ino]

[ She gives Cass a small glance when she puts a hand on her shoulder. She gets the thought behind it, anyways, and so she relaxes a little bit.

There's the matter of this braid, though -- so she's putting her hands over Cass' to help her correct the last few passes she undid.

She's still listening with some interest, but at least she's less worried about their lives? ]

[Wouldn't ask her to pick sides. She almost laughs at that, at how little she believes Tim will ever hold to that kind of a promise. He might not ask out loud, but he would expect her to choose the right side and their definitions of the word right have never lined up exactly. She was always slightly left of center, and that was what could have made them a good team.

Bruce saw it, when he sent her to Tim. She just wished Tim saw it and interpreted it as a good thing too, instead of something to watch out for. She's frowning over the braid, hunching over a little to follow Ino's fingers even as she tries to find the best way to answer Tim.]

I'm on your side. [She's on everyone's side, if they deserve her protection. Being on Tim's side doesn't exclude her from also being on Jason's side.] If anything happens, no one can hurt me. Focus on protecting yourself.

[Since he certainly doesn't, that's ironic commentary. Stil. This went well, he thought, all things considered. Message delivered.]

[ino]

[ Ino can't help but snicker a little at Tim's response. She ... doesn't know Tim well, but he seems exactly the type to .... do exactly NOT that. ]

[Cass smiles a little too, finally looking away from Ino's hair so she can look directly at Tim. No more watching him from the periphery of her vision, for this answer.]

Maybe I'll just... keep extra eye, on you. Just in case.

Well, we're already living in a surveillance state...

You make it sound so dramatic.

Too dramatic. We're watched... back at home, too. Oracle's always watching.

[That sounds way more sinister than it actually is promise.]
