[ He didn't like the sound of that, though when he thought about it, yes, he could see what the other meant. It felt like the magic was pressing in on him, not quite squeezing, but a river looking for the easiest path to flow. ]
What do you think it means? Do you think it dangerous?
no subject
Where - Ah. ]
Not acting quite.. that way. I might become.
[ He's looking out at the woods now. He wants to explore, even if there is the part that says "too much magic!" ]
no subject
Might become what, Duke?
[ Really, it was like trying to keep the attention of a puppy - only a very dangerous one, with quite a bit of magic at his disposal. He didn't miss the direction of Duke's gaze, felt his own yearning to explore further, see if there was a source to this magic pressing at him from every side. ]
Should we look around, see what we might see?
no subject
[ Echoing that dangerous puppy line of thought- ]
... Yes. Would you like to float with me?
[ It would help. If he expends some magic, the filling won't be pushing so much at where he would change from it. ]
no subject
[ Another blink, caught by surprise at the offer, but... honestly intrigued. He had never thought to bend his own magic to that, had not thought it was possible, though Duke clearly had no troubles. His excitement and curiosity won out and he nodded. ]
Yes, yes I would love that. Is it very hard - to float?
no subject
[ But he's strange with magic, so it might be just him. He lifts absently off the ground, staring vacantly down as if trying to find the words for what he just did. ]
It is... implying gravity is something else, as is.. buoyancy. Like how floating in sea water is easier than river...
[ He blinks over at him. ]
I could apply it to you, and you can try to learn how it works that way?
no subject
Oh... well, I suppose I could. I have never tried to use magic that way before, so I am unsure if my magic can bend that way...
[ The thought had never occurred to him, but then the idea of floating through air always seemed a thing reserved for the birds and legendary griffons. ]
no subject
[ But there's a clear deep-green glow about Duke's hands for a moment, before he pauses. ]
Would you prefer I keep the control of movement for now? Could anchor it into how I move, so that... following is a little like shadowing?
no subject
Yes, I think that might be best. I would rather not set myself flying into a tree.
[ Not that Duke's explanation of how to possibly make the magic work made any sense to him, but there was very little to be done about that, he thought. He would have to figure it out on his own as he eyed the green glow of Duke's hands. ]
no subject
[ Or, well, it only really goes as fast as the person can. A little odd like that. But Duke flicks his fingers, and the spell forms a sphere about Vanyel, then sinks close to him and vanishes.
He might feel like he's caught under the arms by something, without it really feeling like it could get horribly uncomfortable. Like he was floating in water, and that's where the water level was - without the obvious wet feel.
Duke tilts his head, a silent 'everything fine'? ]
no subject
[ Vanyel shivered as the magic settled over him, different from that of the planet, lifting him up and shivering at the sensation. Floating - he was floating, in the air as if it was water! He laughed brightly, looking down at the space between his feet and the ground. ]
Marvelous... it's marvelous, Duke...
no subject
[ But for now, he looks up. And it seems like all his spell needs is intent, because then they're rising.
He also seems a bit more awake as they go up. ]
... Which direction?
no subject
Perhaps towards the lake?
[ He points to where he can see water sparkling, surprised he has the wits to talk floating as high as he is. Height had never scared him, especially living with the Tayledras as he had, but this was definitely new and not nearly as secure as the tree houses. ]
no subject
And Duke's spell is secure enough - it would take something knocking into them to disrupt it, and even then, it has to be hard enough to shake Duke's concentration.
... and they aren't going much faster than a horse's trot. It'll take a little bit. ]
no subject
[ Still, it felt much faster for their height, for the way they glided across the tree tops. He wondered if he might reach down and brush the leaves, at once delighted and trying to figure out the spell for himself with the more analytical part of his mind. He could not help but laugh, the delight winning out for now. ]
no subject
Probably better to do that later. off the planet, so Duke wouldn't to flying off when he was distracted.
Decent is as smooth as take-off, it could be gravity reapplying itself, but it wasn't terribly sudden or anything. Duke cancels both spells, and tilts his head in a question of "still okay" at Vanyel. ]
no subject
[ He lands, toes tapping to the Earth, surprised at how light it was, having prepared for a more jarring reunion with the ground. He smoothed his shirt and trousers out of habit, and his hair, taking a few cautious steps toward the bright waters. ]
Thank you Duke. That was... that was amazing.
no subject
... Do you think, if I expanded the spells workings, and had it light up the parts that were in use, it would make sense? ... Ah... if I had it all visible, and the part that made going up possible glowed when I went up...?
[ That made sense, right? ]
no subject
Oh... perhaps it might. Your magic is quite different from mine, but that might help me to understand it and deconstruct it to use in my own spells.
no subject
They were here for the lake, after all. ]
Definitely best done when there is not so much about.
[ He's getting distracted again. ]
no subject
Well, let's get to this then, shall we? Let's not waste the daylight.
[ He smiles and heads for the water's edge, curious and delighted, and overflowing with magic. ]
[ ooc: end? ]
